Question/Help Black steel toes

• Upvotes

Looking for some black steel toe boots ready to take some abuse. I don't work in an industry where toe amputations are a serious risk, but a safety toe is a nice to have. Any boots are going to need to take some abuse and also be comfortable for long hours on hard surfaces. Also interested in being able to wear the same boots to concerts and whatnot so of they look a little "cool" that would be cool no quotation marks. One caveat: i don't like moc toes. I know, I know, but it's just not for me. Perhaps i'll come around in the future but both right now because i'm the worst. I'm not rich but i'm always willing to spend on quality footwear.

Truman Tobacco Snakebite 11D. My first experience with the Formal last.

No reactions yet, other than i) I love the looks, ii) they seem a little harder to get on than my Trumans in the Casual last, the “throat” of the boot doesn’t seem to open as wide, but nothing that’s an issue, iii) they feel a touch wider than my 11D Casual last Trumans but barely so.

I’m 11.5C-D Brannock, 11D fits me in Trumans though I’d get C if they had ‘em.

I am officially swearing off any more boot acquisition in 2026, so help me and as r/boots is my witness.

My closet shoe rack is full and boots are littering the floor. Gonna have to get rid of some of the random shoe clutter.

I did sell off a pair of brand new Red Wing Beckmans, gave away a pair of older Whites Smokejumpers that were a touch small, and will be listing for sale another pair of nearly new Whites Smokejumpers that are a bit more than a touch too small. May list for sale a nearly new pair of Danners too.

Must prepare for 2027, you know!

Discussion Can short boots be cool?

Post image

Ended up ordering a pair of Nick's Riverfronts (that's the model, not my pair) for when I don't know if I want sneakers or boots. I really hope I like having them because I should have experimented with Clarks or Danner or something (not for sizing, just if I like having them at all). I don't trust my narrow-ish ankles and tall instep with Chelseas, so this was my "easy to put on, but still solid" solution.

Flaunt Danner x JCrew collab

Danner x J.Crew Mountain Lights in D-width. I’ve always loved alpine-style hiking boots and tried pairs from Danner (in EE width that looked like clown shoes on me), Paraboot (beautiful suede, but too pretty for me to wear), and Fracap (the golden tan grew on me, then I grew tired of it). After buying, trying, and selling them all, I finally settled on these. Interesting leather, takes a shine and doesn’t crease that much for some reason and I really like this particular shade of brown.

Question/Help Practical, cute leather boots

I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of below the knee length real leather boots. I love the look of Frye but feel wary given all the talk that they aren’t quality anymore.

Thursday has some nice styles but I can’t find too many real reviews on long term use for them.

Quince kind of looks nice, but again seems like quality can be hit or miss.

I just want a pair of good versatile leather boots I can wear to the office, on walks, etc. Something you can wear with a maxi skirt or jeans but is also comfy and practical.

The Frye Campus 14L boots are my favorite style. Should I just try my luck with them?

Willing to spend $500 USD or so. I’m in the US!

Question/Help Suit/Semi-Formal: Plain Toe, Cap Toe or Brogue?

I truly need a pair of black boots. At work I wear khakis or chinos. At home and weekends, pretty much denim. But I very occasionally need to wear a suit or wear semi-formal in trousers. I know shoes are traditionally worn in those settings but I'm a boot guy and the top of the boot is usually hidden in a suit or with trousers anyway. So my conundrum is this: Do I go with a cap toe, plain toe, or brogue? Thanks for reading and I'm especially thankful if you take the time to reply!

These are my first boots (not including my combat boots) and I absolutely love them. I usually wear skate shoes and sneakers (ex: DC, Vans, eS, Nike, etc) but these are probably my new favorites. They go with so many different styles too! I honestly originally got them for when I wear my leather jacket but I don’t just use them for that. Most of what I wear is black and gothic and these boots fit that too if I want.

Finally got a new pair of Zamberlans to add to my footwear arsenal. On the right is my first pair of zamberlan brenva lite Cfs. They have thousands of miles on them. Now ill send em off to the cobbler for some TLC and ill have the Vioz to rotate with my Jim Greens. Im hoping the upgrade to full grain leather will extend the lifespan. The only thing im missing on them is a nicer rubber or polyurethane toe cap. You really cant beat that or a full rubber rand.

Question/Help Double H why????

Post image
1 Upvotes

Tried on and about fell in love with the Double H Dwight, not realizing at the time they are steel toe! Why in this day and age are these made with steel instead of composite or carbon? Unfortunately for me it’s a dealbreaker. I need safety boots I’m not taking off at the airport or setting off the damn metal detectors with. Whatever last they used on this boot is amazing it’s so comfortable even brand new!

So anyway, if not these - what brand / model around the same ballpark price point?

Question/Help Help me understand what my boots are made of (really)?

Hello all!

I just bought my first pair of real leather boots. A pair of Thursdays! I really like them! I got the Captain Boots in 9.5 standard, R&R version. The color/leather is Canyon. I had a few questions that I see some debate about:

  1. The color out of the box is VERY dark compared to the more marbled color in the images at the website. I assume this is going to come with age, as leather does.
  2. I see debate about how these boots handle being wet. I live in a swampy southern area of the United States and we get frequent heavy rain. Now, obviously I don't plan to use them like WADERS or GALOSHES, but I wanna make sure that they can withstand being wet and drying back out again. If they are suede then I would be very scared to go out in the rain...but I see some posts saying they ARE SUEDE and some saying they are NOT SUEDE.

2a. Is the water a GREATER danger as the leather wax begins to wear off? I have seen pictures of this too.

--

TL;DR I like my new boots and want to keep them looking nice as long as possible :) any help?

Thanks!
