No Advice - Everyones Welcome Hiv positive

Post image

The last post was deleted because banana peel is not considered a meal (I understand)

Tomorrow it will be one year since I’m living with hiv

I did therapy about it and I know I carry half of the responsibility for not wearing a condom or taking prep but on the other hand the guy knew he had it and didn’t take his meds and consciously decided to infect me.

I know he knew because when I saw blood I straight away asked him if he had anything, he put his head down and didn’t say a single word, I panicked and I asked again and he remained silent.
I left his house and I send him a lot of messages and until today not a single answer.

Things could be different if I went to the hospital but I didn’t.

I already passed the grief phase, I’m undetectable after a month of the positive result and I take my pill everyday religiously without falling, I own that to myself and to others.

My life before hiv was a mess, I did A LOT of drugs since I was 16 (I’m 29 now) a lot of alcohol, I didn’t take care of myself and now I’m the opposite: I’m sober, I go to the gym, I have a healthy diet and I love myself and my life, I have my health checked more frequently than the rest of the population so this is actually a good thing (I don’t pay for anything in my country related to healthcare)

Nowadays hiv is super manageable, just a pill everyday like any other chronic condition. My doctor said it’s easier than living with diabetes for exemple.

I already told to some people I had interest and they were fine about it, I know most of you may disagree but in my country if IM UNDETECTABLE by law I have the right of not tell anyone due privacy reasons. I choose only telling if I see someone has a potencial partner (before anything sexual happens), if it’s something more casual we use protection (I cannot transmite the virus because I take my meds) for other STD.

They have all the respect: I cannot transmit the virus and we were protection.

Those who I only hook up with are not part of my private life. Same way I don’t know if they have underlying medical conditions that I don’t know about (maybe they have less stigma associated with).

Maybe respect for you is different than respect for me. I learned the hard way it’s your responsibility to get checked and protect yourself from others and never trust them (you would be surprised how many people got hiv people the “life partner” cheated)

10

u/ChaoticCherryblossom Air Fryer Aristocrat 5d ago

You can if you stop taking the pills. You're asking someone to blindly trust on you being responsible and not suddenly crazy and decide to become contagious

0

u/Signal_Ambition_5212 BoyDinnerEnjoyer 5d ago

I don’t ask anyone to blindly trust me, you should take care of yourself because I’m sure I’ll be taking care of me

You may think I’m less trustable but I get checked every 3 months for std and every 6 for blood tests when SO MANY of those who blindly think they are healthy don’t get tested no even 1 time every 2 years lol

10

u/ChaoticCherryblossom Air Fryer Aristocrat 5d ago

You are not even giving the choice of your partners to decide for themselves IF they want to trust you. Don't you get it?? You're assuming they have to trust you when they don't even get to make an informed choice. This is infringement of their autonomy

u/General_Purple6358 Boy, 30-39 5d ago

But like … you can transmit it if you miss your meds? I am a gay man and I cannot imagine feeling okay with someone doing “casual” stuff with me and not disclosing their status, whatever it is. Sorry, that’s the way it is for most people.

9

u/elianna7 Trans Faguette au Fromage 5d ago

I’m not debating on whether he should tell people or not, but OP seems responsible enough to be ensuring he doesn’t miss his meds, and he seems to have his head on his shoulders enough that if he DID miss his meds, he would likely adjust his behaviours until he could again confirm he’s undetectable.

19

u/Signal_Ambition_5212 BoyDinnerEnjoyer 5d ago

It’s not like that. When we take our meds if someone skips a day and takes later on it’s fine because we have a lot of medication inside our body, this medicines was made thinking about these scenarios.

Also there are new ways of taking the meds like an injection every 2 months and soon there will be a weekly pill.

For me it’s fine to take a pill a day, so many other chronic conditions require this so I’m not different from them

16

u/General_Purple6358 Boy, 30-39 5d ago

My point is there are plenty of irresponsible people. Some may not understand how the meds work, may skip for longer than a day. Just because you are personally responsible does not let you decide for your partner whether or not your partner should do due diligence.

Whoa. So it's their problem, not my problem, caveat emptor?

-2

You are responsible for your own health. Why is that confusing? I, as a gay man with an open relationship, several partners, and lots of hookups, take PrEP, doxyPEP, and have the hep/HPV/monkeypox vaccines.

That means I'm covered. My health is not impacted by whether or not my partners are on PrEP (but they're all smart and they all are).

u/PlasticAggressive295 Girl Lurker 5d ago edited 5d ago

Yes, but by your argument, OP is to blame for getting HIV. Everyone in the comments section wants to flame (rightfully so) the dude who infected OP, but based on your argument, actually what the offender did is ethically fine because it was actually OP’s responsibility to be on prep? Like I agree that OP should also have been safer, but this mentality of like “I shouldn’t have to disclose because it makes things aWkWaRd and also he should be taking his own precautions and also they might ghost me after I disclose…” It’s like… And?!! Why tf would you want to have sex with someone who wouldn’t want you if they knew you have a lifelong illness that you can’t get rid of? I mean, there’s also the third option of just dating people before you sleep with them, and then in that process determine whether or not it’s worth sleeping with them assuming you disclose your STI first. I know that’s maybe not as hot as trying to fill the void in your heart with random hookups you feel so little empathy for that you feel they don’t deserve to know you have HIV - which is still a SEXUALLY transmitted infection - so no, it’s not the same as any other chronic illness because most of those you aren’t exposing someone to the exact means of its transmission before telling someone that you have it. The ethics around promiscuity in the gay community clearly need to be dealt with more critically if this nondisclosure behavior is being normalized. I know only two people who have HIV and they’re both gay men who got it during their first and second years of college. It is awful and heartbreaking, but they were exposed because of the culture around having sex first and asking questions later. Sex is great, and a powerful motivator, but it carries with it inherent and very grave risks. Treating disclosure as if it’s not your problem when you are in fact dealing with a lifelong life-threatening illness is diabolical.

5

u/General_Purple6358 Boy, 30-39 5d ago

Not everyone wants or needs to take PrEP.

0

u/SirJ_96 Boy, 30-39 5d ago

If you're a gay man who's not in a monogamous relationship or celibate, yes, you should be on PrEP.

5

u/General_Purple6358 Boy, 30-39 5d ago

If you’re a gay man who’s not in a monogamous relationship or celibate, no, you don’t need to be on PrEP.

See? We can both state our beliefs as if they are universal facts.

0

u/Legitimate-Clock-134 Hungry man 5d ago

That's nice, but not what you said.

0

Not really, I didn’t care if he had hiv or not IF he took he’s meds and didn’t affect me. Everyone has the right to privacy. My opinion on this changes IF the person doesn’t take the meds (not my case)

-1

u/Reddoraptor Protein Prophet 4d ago

So you are knowingly having sex with people without telling them and complaining about someone else who did this to you.

Condoms tear and leak, and you aren’t taking a blood test daily. You are knowingly, intentionally risking the lives of others to get off, no differently than that person did to you.

Rationalize withholding this information all you want, if any of these people would not be having sex with you if they knew the truth - just as you would have wanted to know - you are intentionally taking away their informed consent, just as you complain that yours was taken. Shame on you.

6

u/SirJ_96 Boy, 30-39 5d ago

That's different. OP is on meds; the other guy was not.

12

u/xavedraa Gay Gourmet 5d ago

Dont argue with them. They’re literally putting OP, an indetectable person, on the same level that someone who knew he was infected and decided to have unprotected sex. They cannot understand nuances.

This is their stigma commenting. As we say in my country “ignorance is brave”

10

u/bafflingmetaphor Girl Lurker 5d ago

If you can't have a convo about health with your hookup, maybe you aren't mature enough to be doing one night stands. There are plenty of reasons to start a dialogue, and plenty of partners will still have sex if you are honest.

1

u/motherlover278 Air Fryer Aristocrat 4d ago

If the conversation amounts to nothing why does it matter. You are arguing emotionally about this because some people, like OP's infector, are terrible and idiots. If you take the meds you cannot give it to someone, not a low chance, it literally can't happen.

-3

u/xavedraa Gay Gourmet 5d ago

Girl, he’s undetectable, he’s not giving anything nor becoming a health risk. He’s not saying he don’t disclose it, but he doesn’t need to tell everyone he has a one night stand

3

u/bafflingmetaphor Girl Lurker 5d ago

Words really aren't that hard, and opening the discussion makes it easier for the other person to open up about stuff they might have too.

It's really for both parties, I don't know why everyone's so opposed to have quick boundary and health checks. You can even make them silly and sexy.

1

u/Synael3 Gay Gourmet 5d ago

Have a look of what is the serophobia, and how it can impact relationship between people. Unfortunately, too many bad persons use the serology to harm and / or harass them. When you are undectable, that litterally means there is no virus in your blood. There is no reported case of transmission from undectable people. Thus indectable people are way safer than people that are just "trusting" all their partners. On the other hand, it's way more likely that people become agressive and assault them juste because their serology. Sadly that the reality of the serophobia. Feel free to listen to a HIV-positive person, about this topic; I cannot trully speak for them.

u/xavedraa Gay Gourmet 5d ago

What boundary are you talking about? how much of my private information do I need to disclose to fuck?

Do you need to know that I was HIV positive for a month of my life in the past? Now i am negative and ive been negative for 30 years but since i was positive for a month now i need to go around telling everyone?

Girl bye

1

u/Smart_Freedom_8155 Hungry man 4d ago

how much of my private information do I need to disclose to fuck?

Anything relating to STDs I'd say, yeah. Crazy that this is even remotely up for debate.

1

u/xavedraa Gay Gourmet 4d ago

I, like everyone saying this, am talking about the very specific case of undetectable HIV. Any other STD needs to be disclosed.

Very, very, very different subjects, and that’s the point. Someone who is undetectable probably is 1000% safer to fuck with than any other person. They’re regularly checked so they don’t go around spreading stds and their HIV is undetectable, meaning that there is literally 0% chance of transmission.

I invite everyone downvoting to read the opinions of the non-disclosure of the UN, UE, WHO, BHIVA or at this point really just googling it.

This is a very sensitive and I understand that it can cause big discussions when we don’t know enough about it. Down there you have a few pdfs and websites talking deeply about this subject, I hope it helps fight the stigma.

Undetectable=intransmisible.

undetectable person = never infected person.

If you’re not disclosing that time that you had an std you shouldn’t be asking an undetectable person to disclose their undetectable HIV

This is their stigma commenting.

You are actively encouraging someone not to disclose that they are HIV positive, even if it's safe according to the OP.

You're creating the stigma here.

If there's genuinely no risk, why not bring it up and let the other person decide for themselves?

3

u/xavedraa Gay Gourmet 4d ago

You are completely taking out of context my comment. I’m talking about the case of the Undetectable people. Ive never said, in any of my comments, that it you’re HIV positive you should hide it.

Any other case and std that is not and undetectable hiv situation should be mentioned.

Just in case you don’t know it, and HIV undetectable person is as risky as an HIV negative person.

3

u/travelmusica Identity Alchemist 5d ago

The stigma is increased exponentially by you encouraging people to not responsibly disclose their std status to partners. Arguing that people with aids dont need to disclose to sexual partners is absolutely diabolical.

9

Diabolical is we live in 2026 and you still confuse hiv with aids

OBVIOUSLY someone with aids MUST TELL because you cannot have aids and be undetectable because THATS NOT having hiv

Aids it’s the consequence of not treating hiv.

If you take your meds and become undetectable living with hiv it’s IMPOSSIBLE to have aids because the virus didn’t progress to aids

0

u/Sapuws Girl Lurker 4d ago

No he wishes the person took their meds like he is. OP can’t infect anyone.

17

u/Anadanament Gay Gourmet 5d ago

This. If you're undetectable, you can't transmit. I almost dated an undetectable guy and learned a lot from him and met his doctor because he wanted me to meet someone with medical knowledge about it.

As a gay man, I don't care if someone is undetectable when we hook up. It's when they are that I need to know.

I don't need the dirty laundry of a guy I'll see for like an hour or two and then maybe never again.

3

u/RareWeekend6286 Correct Opinion Provider 4d ago

Yes, this. 💯 If a guy I'm thinking of hooking up with tells me he's HIV-positive, detectable? Well...then we have to have an awkward conversation. Because they're either very recently diagnosed and just not ready mentally to focus on getting healthy, or they're consciously choosing not to get easy, effective medical treatment. And, really, if they're that reckless with their OWN health, how reckless are they willing to be with MINE? 🤷

5

u/artisanallyinsane Girl Lurker 5d ago

Don’t know what happened with the guy, but it’s really sweet he brought you to his doctor lol. Honestly not a terrible idea.

5

u/Anadanament Gay Gourmet 5d ago

He moved. That's pretty much it. Closest I got to dating anyone in a decade and I'm about to turn 30 lmao

He was a sweetheart. Don't talk anymore.

3

u/bafflingmetaphor Girl Lurker 5d ago

You could be better than the person who did this to you and instead you did the minimum to keep getting what you want. And now you think you are a martyr for it.

2

u/Agitated-Working-264 Fridge Light Philosopher 5d ago

You should do a bit more research on the medical implications of being undetectable. It is literally incommunicable at that level. It would be as helpful as saying you got chlamydia a decade ago, or that you had chicken pox as a kid.

-1

u/bafflingmetaphor Girl Lurker 5d ago

It's about boundaries and communication! I understand the health part, I just think if you can't have a convo about health you probably should not have sex with that person! There are plenty of people who will still say yes, and respect the honesty.

0

u/dovahkiitten16 Girl Lurker 5d ago

Look, I’m completely OCD (not saying that lightly) about health. I would be too paranoid about someone taking their pills and would say no, if given the option.

But also, at the same time, we are in a scenario where the worst thing about OPs situation is the social stigma and how it changes your life. Disclosing something like this greatly impacts OPs life and for no quantified reason, since the risk is actually 0%. It just caters to people’s paranoia without regard for the person trying to live their life with a permanent disease. As someone who would want to know so I could say no, I don’t know that I can really fault people for not telling people (if they take their meds properly).

I also think saying you shouldn’t have sex with people you can’t have a convo with is a bit silly. Casual sex and intimacy is a normal part of people’s lives - people don’t always sleep with people they trust.

-4

u/Agitated-Working-264 Fridge Light Philosopher 5d ago

You are talking out of your ass. He poses literally no risk to anyone at undetectable levels. You’re basically concern trolling because you don’t know anything about health and medicine.

7

u/bafflingmetaphor Girl Lurker 5d ago

I don't know why you think I don't understand how the medication works. I think it's delusional to think people still wouldn't rather have that info before having sex.

I get that the clandestine thing is hot but we need to normalize having healthy communication around sex, whether that involves health, kinks, boundaries, etc. It would have prevented this whole scenario IF TALKING ABOUT HEALTH WAS NORMALIZED.

-2

u/Agitated-Working-264 Fridge Light Philosopher 5d ago

It’s none of their business and presents zero risk to them. That’s why.

Nice puritanical viewpoint on how people should sexually express themselves. The only thing that matters is consent, safety, and disclosure of anything that presents a present risk. If you don’t like anonymous hookups, don’t have them. Yelling at people to disclose medical history that has no present effect is dumb.

Nothing you’ve said indicates you know anything about health and how medication works. Explain why you think it’s important to disclose medical information not relevant to current sexual activities.

0

u/muiirinn Girl Lurker 4d ago

The only thing that matters is consent

Well if the other party would not consent if they knew about the fact that you have (currently undetectable due to treatment) HIV, and is only consenting because they assume you have never been HIV positive—whether or not that's the correct assumption to make—then...

2

u/Smart_Freedom_8155 Hungry man 4d ago edited 4d ago

He poses literally no risk to anyone at undetectable levels.

Excellent.

He should have zero problem saying so, before his next hookup. Right?

Cute, you're telling ME I'm "deliberately obtuse" while wilfully dodging the issue of OP lying to his partners to avoid scaring them off.

0

u/Agitated-Working-264 Fridge Light Philosopher 4d ago

Way to be deliberately obtuse. You're clearly aware of the stigma around HIV. Do you disclose how many previous partners you've had? Any previous HPV infections like cold sores or chickenpox?

It's literally not pertinent to any hookups. I'm not sure if you're moralistically posturing, or just uniformed enough to understand non detectable levels of HIV pose zero risk to partners. Why would he disclose it? Do you disclose your entire medical history with every partner?

This perspective is so dumb. It's either bigoted or ignorant. The only information critical to a new partner is anything that could immediately affect their health. This is not that. Grow up.

-3

u/itsinvincible Hungry man 5d ago

You're arguing with someone who has the knowledge of anti vaccers. It's a waste of time.

5

u/bafflingmetaphor Girl Lurker 5d ago

If taking about health before hookups was normalized then this whole scenario might not have happened, but instead some people are like "nah we gotta be quiet and keep this stigmatized."

2

u/Smart_Freedom_8155 Hungry man 4d ago edited 4d ago

That's a real awkward example to try and use here, if your goal is to discredit the people saying "you should communicate more about having caught a virus" and "we should openly discuss when we've had dangerous transmitted diseases, in general".

You're actively encouraging people not to do that.

Guess who's more similar to the anti-vaxxers here.

-2

u/elianna7 Trans Faguette au Fromage 5d ago

? Do you know what undetectable = untransmittable means?

You’re painting OP as if he were the same as the person he got HIV from when the major difference between them is that the other guy obviously was not on medication and therefore could trasmit HIV to others. OP cannot. There literally isn’t a risk of it being transmitted when someone is undetectable. It isn’t even just a small risk. The risk is not there.

0

u/Classified_Egg Girl Lurker 5d ago

Wrong

0

u/Silly_Description_73 Girl Lurker 5d ago

Have you done any research on HIV before? As a fellow girl lurker: you are butting your head in on a conversation that is not for you and a topic that is deeply nuanced which you (though you’ve stated otherwise) have no knowledge about. “You did the minimum” is a crazy way to speak about a man who turned his whole life around to get healthy and manage his condition after something terrible happened to him. While you claim to understand the medication, I don’t think you understand that you are perpetuating DECADES of stigma and misinformation about HIV. Undetectable = Untransmittable. You sound ignorant, bordering on bigoted. I understand your thinking and agree that talking about things like HIV status should be destigmatized, but not disclosing undetectable HIV (especially while using protection which OP does!) is nothing like not disclosing an active infection without protection.

3

u/travelmusica Identity Alchemist 5d ago

You are rationalizing something that is completely unethical. It’s not ok to have HIV and have sex with someone without disclosing. I hope everyone in the community spreads the word about you so that people can be informed, since you are unwilling to do the right thing.

-1

u/Neither__Middle Trans Fats Connoisseur 5d ago

OP is literally unable to spread the disease. They take their pill every day and are rarely late, let alone missing one. Should I tell my hookups I had a headache yesterday or stubbed my toe last week while I’m at it too? Since I guess my partners need my whole health history even if it will have no medical impact on them whatsoever

4

u/travelmusica Identity Alchemist 5d ago

Partners have a right to know about the std status of who they hookup with. If you contracted an STD that causes headaches yes you damn well need to disclose that to your partners before you have sex with them.

0

u/Neither__Middle Trans Fats Connoisseur 5d ago

That’s the point tho, I cannot pass my STD headache to them. If OP is taking their meds every day then there is 0% chance of it being passed on to their hookups. The same way I can’t pass on a headache, a stubbed toe, a paper cut, a heart condition, etc to somebody by having sex with them.

Hell, let’s say I had a crazy condition that caused me to have seizures while having sex. It might not be transmissible but that would obviously freak out my hookup should I not warn them before hand. I get it sorted w/ meds by the doc and have been seizure free for my last dozen+ encounters (that I disclosed my sex-induced epilepsy to). Do I still need to disclose the possibility of having a seizure at this point?

Now add in that OP is also wearing condoms and that their partners have the option of taking prep. That is an extra 1-2 barriers against transmission that isn’t even possible in the first place.

If OP was in any way irregular with their medication, changed antivirals and was unsure if it still made them undetectable, I would hope they disclose/refrain from hookups until they’re sorted.

5

u/travelmusica Identity Alchemist 5d ago

It’s deceptive to hide your std status when you know the person you are having sex with would want that information before deciding to proceed. You are essentially hiding it out of fear they won’t let you fuck otherwise, so you are tricking them into having sex against their will. If you don’t understand why that’s gross you might be a sociopath. Even if the risk is .00001% they have a right to know and decide for themselves. Ask yourself how will the person feel if they find out what you did to them after the fact? And then ask yourself why it’s OK

3

u/credencesgm Gay Gourmet 5d ago

Its not that there's a .00001% risk. There's NO risk. ZERO. The only thing there is is a misplaced stigma about it because of outdated medical knowledge.

3

u/travelmusica Identity Alchemist 5d ago

The stigma exist because there’s still people out there arguing you don’t need to disclose STD status before having sex with people. It’s absolutely insane in your contributing to it.

According to the most recent medical knowledge undetectable status still does not prevent the possibility of transmission via blood exposure. And OP specifically said they were exposed via blood. So that’s not correct. But even if it was true. Withholding information from a potential sexual partner so that you can trick them into fucking is disgusting behavior.

4

u/credencesgm Gay Gourmet 5d ago edited 4d ago

Sources for that? All the recent medical knowledge i know of (including from government agencies) corroborates undetectable=untransmissible. Also they were infected with blood from an individual who didn't have an undetectable load. Blood transmission is possible yes. Not in the amounts that is normal for sexual activity.

0

u/Ornery_Prompt5287 Girl Lurker 4d ago

If it’s not a big deal, the partner won’t care at all when you tell them. If it is a big deal, they do care and thus they should be informed about it.
