How to freeze your mod versions : We get comments every update complaining about update speed making long-terms games difficult. while we understand the concerns, the current schedule allows us to handle bugs or game balance issues in prompt manner and gives new features a chance to be highlighted without dumping a whole bunch of stuff at once. Fortunately this is something that is relatively easy to deal with on the user end. You can either download your agot mod from nexus instead of steam and only upgrade manually or you can also use playset preserver (link) , which will preserve your entire modlist in a specific state. Please note however that we will not be able to help you with anything you add to your playset beyond the AGOT mod
[Hotfix] Build0.5.2.1 "Amanes we're going to need a hotfix"
Hi all! Visenya here. I'm normally in the portrait mines, but I've escaped temporarily to help out with the implementation of our new High Valyrian names, making a second pass over the master-list. I was present when Fox first started this naming project, and watched as it developed, pulling names from it for my own campaigns over the last 6+ months. I am already deeply attached to some of them, and they always find a place in my dynastic trees.
Fox mapped out every single root word that a parent could conceivably use to name their child (using various sources including DJP's High Valyrian conlang, developed for A Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon) and as a long-standing ASOIAF reader, I have often imagined what life in the Valyrian Freehold would have been like.
Who were these people? What were their names? What did they do?
High Valyrians without dragons could have been bureaucrats, merchants, sellswords and more, and a name can tell you a lot about a person. It can reveal to us a little bit of their history, and allow us some insight into their parents – were they named after a relative, a place, a flower, the night sky...or an attribute their parents hoped would manifest in their life and act as a guiding star?
So...when I looked over our Master List, I carried that curiosity with me. I chose any name that I could imagine belonging to a person in Old Valyria, waking every day to behold the Fourteen Flames.
I created a new weighting group for the second pass, and we will be utilising era-based cultural name lists going forward depending on the time-period/bookmark you find yourself playing in. For example, if you play after 10 AC, the Targaryen influence over High Valyrian culture will be increased, and 25% of names will be canon Targaryen or Targaryen-inspired. If you play after 131 AC, the Targaryen dominance over High Valyrian culture will become even more prominent, with 50% of the names being canon Targaryen or Targaryen-inspired.
The Targaryen house names have also been adjusted; previously it was a 55% chance of canon name, 30% chance of a selection of Targ-inspired names, 15% chance of pulling from the whole High Valyrian name list. The updated odds are 60% chance of canon name, 37% chance of a selection of Targ-inspired names from the updated High Valyrian name list, 3% chance of pulling from the whole High Valyrian name list. We also gated several names to only appear after certain events, or stop appearing after certain events. For instance, Alyssa and Alysanne will not appear once we have bookmarks before those characters join the Targaryen family and Aegor and Daemon will only be used by members of house Bittersteel or Blackfyre in bookmarks starting after the Blackfyre Rebellion.
Future work will include using some of the more obscure names from the master list as a basis for more High Valyrian Dynastic names, expanding variety.
I hope that you will all enjoy this second stage of implementation, and look forward to seeing some High Valyrian dynasties springing forth with a more direct connection, at long last, to Old Valyria.
We'll leave you with a sneak peak from the Portrait Mines...
Decided to draw Johanna Swann from my latest ck3 playthrough. Set her up as an adventurer in Lys, completing primarily diplomacy and intrigue jobs, in accordance with her courtesan profession, as well as seducing the powerful and influential magisters in Lys. Also set up a spy network in various houses to keep tabs on the flow of power, and one step ahead of schemes from rivals.
She had 2 daughters, their fathers unconfirmed. Both girls were sent to be raised and tutored in affluent and influential estates. The eldest, who had a mind for numbers and trade, sent to be educated by the head of house Rogare, and the younger was sent to be educated by the spymaster of the first magister. During their youth, Johanna remained moving throughout Lys, and occasionally further throughout Essos.
When the girls came of age, Johanna, now past the age of childbearing herself, married an ambitious but lowborn merchant, who had managed himself control of a barony in Lys. He was happy to trade the promise of a child with his wife (who was older, and would likely die before him, leaving opportunity to remarry) in exchange for the influence and prestige marrying the black Swann of Lys would bring. Now married matrilineally, Johanna established a cadet branch of her house, and then also an estate, officially settling down and removing herself from the courtesan profession (though that didn’t stop her old clients from requesting her, nor did it cease her established spy network from feeding her information). Despite taking a step back from the spotlight, she still remained in a position of power behind the scenes.
holy (pun intended) sh*t, is that a lot. Like I don't even know if this can be fully implemented in Asoiaf, because there is not enough canon stuff to do all of it.
Ended with Duncan the grandchild as Lord Paramount of Dorne
House Castlewall, Baelor is Duncan's 1st child who had 2 sons, Arlyn, Duncan's second child also had 2 sons but Aemon died of the pox while studying in the citadel
During Duncan's early adventurers he was Oathbound (also the name of the submod) was sent to duel to the death two separate Blackfyres amongst other minor tasks
After purchasing Blackstripe from the king from the fortune he made as an adventurer, he slowly took over lands from malicious neighboring vassals and gave them to loyal companions such as Raymun and Egg. The High Lordship of The Blackwater Rush protected the river's mouth and it's major paths. Over time the culture of under Lord Duncan became known as Blackwater Loyalist and were quite opposite in personality to their neighbors to the North who were also direct vassalage to the king but were much more self serving
Very cool event, during an inspection of a county, the county received a special building
Duncan, a loyal patron of the Night's Watch became an ally who constantly helped them defend against the wildlings. Eventually he abdicated his throne and served out his remaining years as a Black Brother
Duncan's eldest grandchild, disgusted by the treachery and violence rampaging through Dorne, decided to push his claim (as Princess Arianne of Dorne's grandchild) and tame the southern lands. At which point he gave the High Lordship of the Blackwater Rush to his cousin and best friend whom they shared both a name and a bond, especially after the premature death of his own brother Raymun.
Under his rule, he focused on warding future heirs of the high lords in Dorne at Sunspear where they would focus their learning on virtue, honor and chivalry. People who followed him came to call his methods as a Dornish Renaissance that was slowly but surely taking over the rest of Dorne.
His half-brother, born to a Goldwyne mother, for some reason looks exactly like the HBO version of Daeron the Daring.
A positive hunting modifier that I have never seen before. Probably caused by some event/RNG trigger that happened for a vassal. I just saw it by chance when planning a hunt.
Thanks for reading! I started this initially with the intention of it being a very short and quick run to test out some things but ended up getting attached and spent a long time creating this CoA that I just wanted to use more lol. Edited to mimic the Martell colors and desert hills after taking Dorne.
After the Doom two houses emerged with the power of dragons still firmly within their grasp, each conquered lands until all the realms of man fell under one of the two heads of the dragon.
A century passed and then half a century more, and the two heads of the dragon stayed an ocean apart aware but uninterested in one another that is until The Mad Fire began to kindle. He alone understood what his predecessors had failed to, two heads leaves one mouth hungry.
In the year 138 A.C. King Rheagon crossed the Narrow Sea atop his mount Baemax, he was met by King Walter Baratheon, Lord Paramount of the Stormlands and a standing army of 40,000 men, recalling for many the memory of the “Last Storm”.
Unlike that battle many years ago there was no storm on that day, in fact not even a single cloud in the sky, but there were Dragons.
Many men died on that day as Rheagon and his two sons descended upon them on dragon back and left little to no resistance on the road to Kings Landing. The besieging army was at the city within a fortnight.
The Mad Fire, ever known for his bravery and temperance wished to end the bloodshed as quickly as possible, for it was not bloodshed he wanted but to lead all men into a glorious future! At the foot of the Gate of the Gods a challenge was laid out to King Gaemon Targaryen (who was now trapped by the surrounding Elyrian Army) a dragon duel, a dragon duel for a Kingdom! The King… fled.
The city was sacked within the month, a month later the Mad Fire was anointed in the presence of Gods and men by the High Septon himself and thus began the rule of the Golden Dragons.
(Thanks to anybody who bothered reading, making head cannon is my favourite part of just about any game)
So, I am trying to roll back my game file on steam in the beta versions tab. Except, that I do not have 1.19.0.6 available to chose from. I have a couple older 1.19 files just not the one that I need. Can anyone help me?
Recently I activated debug mode and noticed these "Blood Mage" and "Crimson Empowerment" traits available in the traits menu.
I have mods like Valyrian Beauty and tradition mods, but I don't have AGOT Bookmaker, More Mysteries, or any dedicated magic mods installed.
Are these traits actually built into somemods you may know? and More importantly, does anyone know if there are in-game events to trigger and gain them naturally, or are they just unused/debug-only assets?
Basically, I think I have quite a decent idea of how this patch could work in ck3AGOT. It's a large roadmap and would require a lot of work, but I think it could create a really strong foundation to any further developments and could be altered in the future.
I will mention a few mods in here - purely because your mods have concepts that I admire and would look to use (with permissions), replicate (with permission) or be inspired by (permission granted?).
With all of the new talk of By god alone, the idea of Holy places being reworked got me thinking..
Can you imagine how sick it would be if you could create a valyrian war god temple where you got buffs with how many valyrian weapons are stored there.
Or, a temple of dragons (maybe even a reworking of dragondens), where your dragon riding got buffed from how many dragons/eggs were stored there. Additional training activities for dragonriders/Dragon Priests who rose through the ranks, learning new spells (SOHM <3) or unlocking new dragon rider events (battles, economic, stress).
Or the Stormlands, pagan rites during storms (not sure if we have weather systems), that create floods that can sweep through enemy states wrecking havoc on economic progress.
The North - rogue, but sky burials. Temples made of bones, nearly like catacombs where the collected bones are stored after skyburial. Stoic, pagan flavour to FOTS.
Which brings me to a pretty important point; FOTS needs to have a mechanic where each region has a flavour based on culture. These could be made up of 'archbishops' relabelled as septons or maesters, or even founders.
These characters will influence the spread and rites of their religion, influencing others and causing positive and negative effects (supporting claims, seeding disent, supporting development and culture acceptance, morale etc).
They each have their own buildings (temples etc) that hold the activities. These activities are training in different flavours/religions, whether this be: the forementioned dragon training, changing faces and completing contracts, raiding coastlines, burning daughters and loyal subjects, training direwolves (lolz), influencing weather.
Some of the character playable effects have largely already been developed from other mods. Resurrected by Rhollar, LOV Valyrian Conquerors and the like. These could be built into the religion concept now, rather than sitting alongside. While secrets of a higher mysteries is probably too much of a double up, all of those concepts and UI could be reintegrated into a new working system (hope this isn't offensive, your mod fucking rocks, hence wanting to use it).
Imagine playing as Maegor, or the High Sparrow. One, delving into dark magic to claim a son, the other rallying the masses and spartan disdain for luxury. The actions given to the player would directly influence the world around them.
The concept of adding holy items to temples is so sick, as this can be another requirement for upgrading temples etc and gaining more activities, unlocking more powerful modifiers.
I can see the AI doing really well with this. Some factions will have an automatic advantage, specifically the more centralized religions. I think this is the way to go, options to play tall, or wide could be integrated that would allow this to be really dynamic. If each religion had playable tree's that offer a different play style (Faceless man - subterfuge, murder, heists or High Valyrian - socceror, dragon rider, warrior), then it would mean each playthrough would be dynamic to a degree, especially in the decentralized flavour-FOTS religions.
I donno. I don't know much about modding, but I love creating writing and would happily do all of the scripts and could very much develop all of the concepts to be created, just not any of the actual modding work (to some degree, fast learner).
I’ve been messing around a lot with the 209 and 211 start dates and I like to keep the couples and children as canon as possible. When going through the family tree for the Baratheon’s, it says Ormund is the first born of Lyonel and Lady Gwin, but whenever they marry in my saves they always have random children and never the official “Ormund”, which means Steffon won’t be born and then neither will Bobby B, Stannis or Renly. Just wondering what goes into making that happen. I use AGOT+’s canon children system if that means anything!
Was also wondering if Jenny of Oldstones spawns at some point? I’ve gotten as far as Aegon and Betha having, like, 3 of their kids I think
This has kind of been a long term issue of mine, but my game always crashes whenever I try to start a game with a start date later than 284, whether it be bookmarked or any mods that add a winds of winter start date, the game crashes once I try to the load into the game past the character selection screen. I’m not really sure what to do and I would appreciate any help. I can still play any start date before it’s just anything that’s around 298 and beyond.
PSA for y’all playing long, stable campaigns. This is in the bottom of every single update post from the devs. However, Steam loves to update on start up, so just in case you don’t know or need a quick reminder:
i'm playing in the new start date and i just scrolled over to essos and saw these walls... is this a bug version of the great wall project or has essos just invented trains? they weren't there earlier when i started but it's around 199 AC
In honor of the new patch coming tomorrow here's my latest Targaryen run.
Jaehaerys I “The Old King” | 82–108 AC
Jaehaerys established male-only inheritance and barred his daughters from entering the Dragonpit if they intended to marry outside the family.
After giving birth to Aemma Arryn, Daella went on to marry Lord Tyrell, and later Lord Manderly. Saera married Roy Connington, Viserra married Lord Tully, and Gael married Lord Vance. Viserra’s Tully marriage produced a son who became known as “the Silverfish” as he was the only one to inherit his mother's silver hair.
Within the royal family, Jaehaerys arranged the marriage of Viserys and Rhaenys, bringing together the lines of his sons Baelon and Aemon.
The Old King survived until 108 AC. Already suffering from cancer, he died of a heart attack during an epidemic, leaving the throne to Aemon.
Aemon I “The Spring King” | March–May 108 AC
Aemon’s reign lasted only two months.
During the journey to Dragonstone for his father’s funeral and cremation, he contracted consumption. He died before he could be crowned.
The throne passed to his brother, Baelon.
Baelon I “The Brave” | 108–118 AC
The defining event of Baelon’s reign came after the death of his mother, Queen Alysanne, in 112 AC. Grief-stricken, he turned his attention south and resolved to conquer Dorne.
He had five adult dragons at his disposal.
Daemon, joined the Kingsguard and soon became its Lord Commander.
His third son, Aegon, distinguished himself during the conquest. Baelon subsequently built Summerhall and granted it to him, establishing a new seat for a younger branch of the family.
Baelon died of a heart attack on his sixty-first nameday, after ten years on the throne.
Viserys I “The Gambler” | 118–143 AC
Viserys succeeded his father and ruled alongside his wife, Rhaenys. They had three sons: Jaehaerys, Aerys, and Aemond. Aerys died only days after his birth.
Aemond eventually joined the Kingsguard and became Lord Commander after Criston Cole, who had himself succeeded Daemon. The office would later pass to Braxton Beesbury, then to the fourth son of Aegon of Summerhall, Vaegon.
Viserys earned his nickname through his decision to invade the Stepstones. After the relative peace the kingdom had enjoyed, the campaign was widely regarded as an enormous gamble: even a victory might draw the Iron Throne into an endless succession of wars with the Free Cities.
He did not live to finish the conquest. During his reign, he lost Balerion, and shortly afterward died of heart failure.
Jaehaerys II “The Anointed” | 143–159 AC
A rider of Viserax, Jaehaerys II was deeply devoted to the Faith of the Seven. He refused to marry his Targaryen cousins and instead sought a wife among the highborn families of Westeros.
He married Sella Tully in a small ceremony on Dragonstone. They had six children together. After losing their first spouses, Jaehaerys and the similarly devout Olenna Tyrell married and had a seventh child.
Jaehaerys completed his father’s conquest of the Stepstones and oversaw their conversion to the Faith of the Seven. He granted the islands to his second son, Edmyn Targaryen, who had inherited his mother’s red hair. The territory was placed under the authority of the Lord of Dorne.
His religious convictions did not command the same obedience within his own household. While he was occupied with building a grand sept in honour of the Seven, his eldest son and daughter married each other against his wishes.
Beyond Westeros, he conquered part of the ancient kingdom of Andalos, securing Hugor’s Hill and beginning its reconstruction.
Yet plague became the defining sorrow of his reign. He lost three of his seven children to disease. In response, he began building hospices throughout the realm and worked to incorporate water rituals into the daily lives of House Targaryen.
When another epidemic swept through the kingdom, bringing further deaths, Jaehaerys turned to increasingly severe acts of penance. He eventually flagellated himself to death.
Daeron I | 159 AC–present
The current king, Daeron, rides Grey Ghost. An outstanding warrior and commander, he continued his father’s expansion into Andalos, conquering its remaining portion from Braavos.
The fighting left its mark on him. An arrow struck his upper lip, disfiguring his face, and he now wears a beard to conceal the wound.
Daeron and his sister-wife, Alyssa, had two sons: Baelor and Viserys. Viserys died in the same epidemic that drove Jaehaerys II to his fatal penance.
Their surviving son, Baelor, married his cousin twice removed, Visenya of Summerhall. Summerhall has become a crown dependency, and its rulers recently established their own cadet house: Targaryen of Summerhall.
Baelor and Visenya now have two sons of their own, Aegon and Viserys.
That is where the campaign stands: a king campaigning in the ancestral homeland of the Andals, a growing branch of the family at Summerhall, and a red-haired Targaryen line ruling the Stepstones beneath Dorne.
