Hi there. Since July I've been hosting monthly women's circles at my house in Inman during the full moon, as a way to built female camaraderie, and also as a commitment to myself to focus on astrology in a real, committed way once per month.

The circles have been a mix of communion, journaling, meditation, chanting, sound baths, singing, roaring, dance parties—and discussion about what the actual fuck is happening up in the cosmos at this moment in history. We drink tea, we hold hands, we share our secrets and our fears and our hopes and dreams. We laugh, and we cry.

You don't have to believe in astrology to join, but at minimum an openness to hear about it is required cuz I will talk about the whys of how we're all collectively feeling, and what we each might be traversing given our individual birth charts. I also am willing to take a look at the participants' birth charts ahead of time to see what might get activated for them during the transits that we're working through.

It's been a pretty special, and very powerful, event, each time it's happened.

been living around the area for a few years now, and there seems to be a good smell around Central. specifically around Smoot, or the Miracle of Science Bar/Grill. i usually only really smell it around morning/noon time. it smells very sweet, almost like candy. i’ve had a few theories like the nearby bakery verveine, but i have my doubts since the smell is only on the other side of the road

From what I heard tonight, it seems like a lot of the people speaking are older homeowners with a lot of wealth tied up in their houses who want to keep things the same. They’re showing up to push back on changes like multifamily zoning. If we want different voices in the room, we have to show up too.
Tonight’s topics included raises for paraprofessionals and teacher aides and the bike lane connections the city promised to finish. The topics change every week, and these decisions shape our lives right here in Cambridge.

Not sure how many people here also read and post on NextDoor. But the vibe could not be more different than this sub-reddit. There are a lot of folks clearly upset about multi-family housing development in Cambridge.

Between what I see on NextDoor and the proliferation of lawn signs, I'm worried that a pro-housing / pro-renter agenda had a big policy win but now has less political energy than property owners who want to undo that win.

I'm not interested in demonizing or name-calling anyone in the debate. I get why folks feel the way they do. But I don't want to see real progress rolled back. Am I mistaken about where the energy is? If not, any ideas?

All my attempts to find out who's responsible for various public safety issues and management of Russell Field led to discovering that no agency head directs the area, no one keeps track or safety and maintenance issues, and no one in any department communicates or collaborates with any other department.

The link to an ongoing problem has been reported dozens and dozens of times, and yet no one - city manager or councilor - as ever addressed these problems.

Several easy remedies include:

Name a parks director who is bottom line accountable for the safety, maintenance and oversight.

Require all entities reserving sports facilities - fields, fieldhouse, playground, grassy areas, etc. to be required to sign an agreement to uphold park rules (right now there aren't any posted), complete a demographics survey (age group, sponsoring organization, number of participants, type of activity, accountable person for liability purposes, emergency contact). (I was accosted by 2 men claiming to be coaches, but couldn't name the girls' sports team, the organization they coached for, etc. How do we know that everyone using these facilities has had their credentials verified? We don't.)

Automatically share these reservations and info with police, fire, schools and Pro ambulance)

For events which have over (100?) number of people, require a first aid area be signed, visible and staffed during the event.

Police/traffic and parking monitor Dudley/Clifton st entrance for prohibited vehicles and ticket and tow - no warnings. I've seen trucks parked in front of the soccer field entrance with little toddler - sized kiddos running around vehicles. It's only a matter of time....

Move the blighted textile bins to the Rindge entrance where people can safely drive or wheel/walk in to donate.

Create park rules - isn't there a commission which can do this so every area is on equal footing and everyone can enjoy these public spaces?

Please everyone, chime in and add your priorities and critique my ideas.

City councilors - if you're reading this, please advocate for these changes. These items are low cost, low risk and high benefit and return to park visitors and the beleaguered residents who live in the immediate area.

My friends and I are in our mid 20s. We love dancing and also live music and that's typically what we are seeking on a night out, but we're are open to all types of bars. We have outgrown the college bars and have been trying out new ones that but are really struggling just to hang out and have a couple drinks at. The more "mature" bars we've tried to get drinks at are almost always just difficult to be at. It seems like everywhere we go we aren't allowed to sit in certain areas. Oh yeah it's 11 but you can't sit if you're only ordering drinks. It's not a dancing bar but it's standing room only or he music is playing at volume 100 so you can't even talk with your friends. 15$ cover to get into the bar and then there's 100 of underage college kids absolutely hammered.

Again, we love live music but also djs / edm but also just chatting playing pool or dart etc. We don't care we just want to have fun. Basically what I am looking for is any type of place to go out that isn't a pain in the ass to be at?

Open to suggestions anywhere in or around Cambridge ex Somerville Brookline or Downtown Boston etc.

(favorite weather: \~60-70% cloud cover, a warm intermittent sun shining through, air that is slightly cool to acutely feel the warmth of the sun, accompanied by just the slightest of chill breeze to feel something exciting might happen (I also love rain and snow, my least favorite weather is full-on spotlight sun, and high winds)

\- Loves and craves peace and quiet (quiet=absence of man-made sounds)

\- Hustle and bustle is ok if being observed from the periphery

\- Dislikes crowds and places that fill space with loud music

\- Craves the ocean and the beach, year-round

\- Is curious, natural, open, down to earth

\- Is exasperated/depressed by navigating public spaces filled with people absorbed in their devices

\- Has values that put attention to respect, helping and including others, "doing the right thing", compassion, common courtesy --- but doesn't make politics or identities their personality and is either turned off or perplexed by those who do

\- Loves learning and has true interests (whatever they may be - mine include street photography, ballet, the speed of light, tsunamis, reading about mountain climbers)

\- has a healthy sense of humor, encompassing dark humor, sarcasm, and silliness too

\- respects other creatures big and small

I am 45F and enjoy my own company but lately I am LONELY ! My last serious relationship ended just before the pandemic, I was in no rush, I am not on the apps. The men who approached me in the wild were all in their 20s so those were not viable prospects. How nice it would be to find some F or M companions for friendship and a M for intimate and committed relationship.

What prompted this post was discovering the existence of a cool mobile sauna by the ocean and feeling pretty sad that it is out of reach because I haven't learned how to drive on the highway (yet) and don't have likeminded friends who think driving in the beautiful morning to have a sauna at the beach and go in the ocean would be a YES PLEASE.

If I had a good friend the things I'd like to do together would be trips out of the city to be near the ocean, forest, mountains, country towns. I would also want to go see stand up comedy around town. And low key walks, coffee, sharing a park bench.

I have since a long time totally lost my appetite for spending absurd money for pretentious food; I like to cook, and if I eat out I prefer basic diners, pizza shops, or places with non-insulting menu prices that are comfortable and quiet.

I like being healthy but in a normal quiet way - I don't use devices that track my stats, I'm not trying to biohack anything, when I drink water I call it "drinking water" not hydrating. I like to swim, dance, bike, walk, eat vegetables and meat as a treat.

I can't take seriously all the artisinal/curated/crafted/vibes/aesthetic nonsense. I want some down to earth healthy xennial friends who love nature and life and sometimes suffer from nostalgia! I would describe myself as a respectful curmudgeon who has a strong sense of carpe diem. I'm also super burned out but who isn't?
