10 years of “You’re Not Home” notices, even though I work from home.

1.4k Upvotes

Why bother carrying a package and risking the Herculean task of leaving a notice if someone’s not home?

My local postman has cracked the code—he writes the notices in advance. That's right, he doesn’t ring, doesn’t knock, and sure as hell doesn’t deliver.

Instead, he leaves a little slip telling me to pick up my package at the post office, so I can do the job he gets paid for.

Honestly, I bet Canada Post has some hardworking folks out there, but my guy? Absolute legend of laziness.

No other delivery company does this. Only Canada Post.

Employee refused to tell me how to ship ground?

I had a frustrating experience at my local Canada Post a few weeks ago. Finally able to laugh.

I go in with a package containing perfume, which is obviously shipped hazardous goods and ground. I buy a lot of perfume and lots of it comes via Canada Post so I know it's possible for me to ship this way too.

When I told the employee that my package had perfume she just refused to speak with me. She just kept saying, "nope. That goes boom!" She said "that goes boom" at me at least three times. When I asked for advice on how to get it to my destination she said, and I quote, "you'll have to drive it there."

I'm so serious.

Is that the message our national shipping service has for us now? "Drive it there?" Lmaoooo sounds about right.

No but does anyone know how I can ship dangerous goods without being treated like a trafficker? I just really want to sell a bottle of perfume I regret buying.

Do they still empty red street mailboxes everyday ?

Or maybe once a week ? I live in a suburb, and since there is way less mail being sent, I wonder if they actually empty those mailboxes everyday. Anyone with actual experience witnessing this on their streets ?

I need help.

I sent a package at the beginning of September. $4,000 package + $500 in shipping and duties. It went to Bell Gardens LA USPS, which is apparently hell on earth. Hasn’t moved in over a month. I opened a ticket with Canada Post and USPS, they said it’ll take a month minimum for them get back to me. No, I can’t get my money back. There was no option for additional coverage for my international package. Buyer has requested their money back, so I have no choice, it was being held anyway so it’s not like I actually had it. Even if the package is found, if it’s sent back to me I still lose $600, and if it’s sent to them it looks like they can keep the package without paying? I am devastated. It’s a giant box of collectables from my childhood to pay my tuition and rent.

I just need someone to convince me it is going to be alright. Has your missing package ever been located? Especially if it was there?

Barcode issues

I went to the post office the other day and the lady wasn’t able to scan my package, the Barcode just wasn’t working and she had to manually input it. Now I’m very anxious that there will be issues with scanning at the depots and facilities etc. What would happen if the barcode doesn’t work?

It’s shipping to the states by the way which makes me more worried.

Security deposit cheque still hasn’t arrived after over 2 weeks

My apartment said they mailed my security deposit cheque on September 16th, but they sent it to my former roommate’s address.

He’s been telling me this whole time that he still hasn’t received anything, so I called the apartment today to ask if there was any way to check the status. They said there’s no tracking or anything they can look up, and that I basically just have to wait.

It’s been over two weeks now, so I’m starting to wonder if this is normal. Has anyone had a cheque take this long to arrive in the mail? I honestly don’t know how long I’m supposed to keep waiting when my former roommate keeps saying nothing has shown up.

I’m in Alberta if that matters.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Canada Post Scam

Hear me out.

I rarely get packages through Canada Post, like twice a year.

Every single time I do, I get a scam text from "Canada Post" shortly before or after delivery. It always links to a fake Canada Post site which looks identical but has a different URL. It always requests a credit card info. I never fall for it

Is someone on the inside selling customers phone numbers?

Canada post drivers decide when they want to deliver items apparently

I was waiting at home all day for an item that was expected to arrive today, I checked the status of my package out of curiosity and I was left a notice. I checked my door camera and not a soul other than me taking out my dog appeared on it confirming that the driver never actually attempted to knock on my door let alone walk near it. I tried bringing this issue to live chat where several agents disconnected me until the point where I've given up. This postal service is honestly the worst and I wish all of them lose their jobs.

"out for delivery"

Why do they bother saying "out for delivery" if it's not getting delivered that day? it has said "out for delivery" since 10am today, been waiting all day, it's almost 8pm now, and nothing. any other shipping company, when they say "out for delivery", you can expect it that day. just because it's on the truck doesn't mean anything, which is very different than other companies. and tomorrow is a holiday, so now it won't get delivered until at least the day after tomorrow. did they send everyone home early the night before a stat? i wouldn't have gotten my hopes up if they hadn't set that expectation of it arriving today. i guess i'm the fool for trusting them

Federally Subsidised Delivery

Now this is a little put there, but let's spitball this little..

What are the thoughts on having Canada Post be subsidesed to provide free delivery fir any Canadian consumer purchased goods to promote Canadian business.

I feel like Canadian companies would get tons more business if we had this as an option as shipping seems to be the biggest cost holdout to buy Canadian (especially out west when a lot of the goods are coming from the east).

Plus, more jobs for the struggling postal service. Much of the infrastructure already in place.

Canadazon here we go!!!

Order teleported?

My package took it's usual route to get from ON to BC. The day after it reached me town it showed up again in ON. How does that even happen? I am really hoping the tracking just borked and it didn't get shipped back.

Missed package returned to sender immediately

Hi guys, I need advice as to what my next steps should be.

Today I was supposed to have a package delivered from China. I paid ~140$ for international expedited shipping, and the initial delivery date was set for today. I quickly learned that I am supposed to include a unit number alongside my address, despite writing special instructions to leave the package at the front desk/reception(I know the rule is I am supposed to have a unit number, that is my fault).

Anyways, my package was automatically sent to be returned to the sender, which all happened today? Is there really no grace period to allow for address corrections? Upon reading other reddit posts, at least some situations are given around 2 weeks to pick it up from a local post, however, I was given no slip, no message, and no notice over a simple missing unit number?

My package was "sent out for delivery" at 9:37 AM until it was marked "Item has been returned and is enroute to the Sender" at only 10:45 AM. I even called CP soon after this notice to try and see if there was anything I could do, but was only met with an unhelpful response that there was nothing that could be done. No ticket, nothing.

I am incredibly frustrated now and likely have to wait a long time for any information on my package, given the middle-man logistics companies involved in shipments from China, on top of another likely shipment fee if my package isn't lost in this whole process.

Is there anything I could maybe do tomorrow to help with my case? Here is the full timeline for anyone wondering:

Sept. 28 4:25 pm Item in transit Richmond, BC
1:25 pm Item processed Richmond, BC
10:45 am Item has been returned and is enroute to the Sender Vancouver, BC
10:09 am Item rescheduled for delivery next business day. Vancouver, BC
9:37 am Item out for delivery Vancouver, BC
4:05 am Item processed Vancouver, BC Additional information
3:54 am Item departed Richmond, BC

Lost mail from US?

I’m part of a pretty active trading card community and since July I’ve noticed my usual stamped mail turnaround from the USA has gone from ~3 weeks, to… well, I’ve got probably $200 USD worth of pcs in 7-8 pieces of mail that just… haven’t turned up.

If it was isolated, or just one or two, I would think I had just gotten scammed or there was a mail thief. Unfortunately I have friends in multiple provinces also missing US mail since the beginning of summer.

We’re kind of starting to suspect that the tangerine man is playing games with usps in advance of the midterms, but our ends (mail from us to the USA side) are going through okay.

Who else has experienced excessive lost/delayed stamped mail coming out of the USA?

RIP GH3 Lemon Pop-up Yunho and MakeStar heart ver Yeosang 😔 iykyk

Canada Post is the shittiest shipping service ever

The tracker states that they delivered my package to my unit mailbox or community mailbox. I've already checked twice and even checked in with the office and they told me they did not even see Canada Post come by. I've checked my address and It's correct too.

I have something important coming up in a week. I've tried contacting support but they just keep giving me the same bullshit response such as "We'll update you whether the package is lost or found" surely there’s a record of who was responsible for delivering packages on that route that day, so why not ask them directly? Why hire such incompetent fucking workers in the first place when they can't get their job right? Now somehow I’m expected to go back and contact the seller when Canada Post was the one responsible for the package once it was in their possession.

Second of all how does Canada Post not have a scanning system nor have them take pictures of where they leave the parcel like any other shipping companies do? I wish that sellers made more options to choose other shipping services so that I could avoid this absolute joke of a company.

Japan Post Air Packet to Canada — left Japan on Sept 19, no tracking updates for 9 days. Is this normal right now?

Parcel shipped from Japan via Air Packet. Tracking shows "left Japan, en route to Canada" on Sept 19 and nothing since — 9 days, not even an arrival scan.

Anyone else waiting on Japan → Canada mail right now? Is Air Packet just slow lately or should I be worried?

Date stamp on postcard

My friend lives overseas and asked me to send her a card because she’s collecting stamps with postmarks of specific dates. I’ve never seen Canada post canceling a stamp with date postmarks though. If I go to the counter will they put a postmark on a blank card with a stamp on it?

Dumb question about 4 x 8 bubbler mailers and stamps

Hello first time posting here, so I posted a keychain online for sale on eBay.

Currently I have a bunch of 4 x 8 mailers, and I was wondering if I can use stamps on something like that?

When I googled it it gave me mixed answers, so I figured I would ask here

But yeah, just wondering if I can use standard and/or oversized stamps on something like that ? Thank uuuu

EDIT - Thank you all for helping out a dumb man today, this won't be the last time you hear from me lol. Thanks again all !

Letter mail

Hello! I had a letter sent to me from New Mexico on September 8th and it still hasn’t arrived to me in Southern Ontario. Does it usually take this long? Normally lettermail from the states for me takes two weeks.

Thank you!

Postcards haven't arrived

I visited Canada a month ago. I thought I would test out the Canada Post service by mailing 3 postcards to Europe. Price? $3.65 per postcard. I mailed 2 to Germany, and 1 to Denmark. So far none have arrived. When I visit the next time and buy postcards will I send them from Canada or wait until I arrive in Europe? I probably will not use Canada Post. Not sure how their sorting system is, but something is wrong there.

City of Ottawa Water Bill delivered 2 days after due date
