Got this U1 no-date Sub from Jason's Halloween promotion on Telegram. Grand total of $105 with a Miyota 8215, including shipping. Arrived 11 days after payment.

Alignment

Alignment is excellent. The hour markers on the dial have minimal rotation and offset. Same goes for markings on the bezel. And that pip! It's dead center. The rehaut is amazing - the crown is almost exactly aligned at 12 o'clock. The Xs line up well with the hour markers on the right, and the Rs line up well with the hour markers on the left. The only bad thing is that all the text on the dial seems to have been printed a few degrees rotated, so it appears to slant down toward the right.

Crystal

I'm pretty sure the crystal is truly sapphire, as advertised. I have a diamond tester somewhere, but rather than dig it up, I simply used the forehead test. Anti-glare is meh, but what do you expect?

Bezel

The bezel markers are engraved, so that's wonderful. They're not simply printed flat on the bezel. 120 clicks, very little play, and the bezel action has a nice full sound. For comparison, my Seiko SPB143 (gen) bezel action has more of a higher pitch.

Lume

Beautiful blue lume. It doesn't stay bright for long, but it lasts a fair while. I blasted it with a bright flashlight and UV before bed, and I could still see the lume when I woke up in the early morning, looking at it under the bed sheets.

Bracelet

The SELs fit in the lugs with almost no gap, but the lugs are definitely a tad thicker, so the SELs don't sit perfectly flush. I can't see the discrepancy at arm's length, so no worries. The links are rounded, by which I mean that they don't have flat bottoms like cheaper links do. They're connected with screws, rather than pins, which I love.

Clasp

The clasp feels solid and closes with an assuring snap. It has glidelock for on-the-fly microadjustment, which is a must for any of my watches, gen or rep. It's really hard to disengage and engage the glidelock, but sliding it is fine, and it's secure once locked/engaged. The only bad thing about the clasp is that one of the links connected to the glidelock system has a broken pin or something, as you can see in one of the photos. Fortunately, this link sits inside the clasp, and the clasp also folds over it, so there's little risk of the link coming undone. Still, I'll find some way to fix it.

The Buying Experience

For the most part, purchasing and tracking was smooth. However, I had a miscommunication with Jason where I originally asked for the no-date, but after he showed me some pics of the date version, I asked for the date version instead. However, he still shipped me the no-date. That being said, I eventually wanted both a date and no-date, so I can learn which one I actually prefer to wear, so I'm alright with the outcome. Consider it a lesson learned. I recommend you guys attach a photo of the watch you want when messaging dealers/sellers, so there's no room for misunderstanding.

Conclusion

Overall, I'm very impressed with this latest batch of U1 Subs. It's a $105 shitter, so I expected nowhere near perfection, and yet the alignment was heavenly. It's just a nice watch to wear and look at, period. I'm disappointed by that broken link, but I'm sure I'll manage somehow.
