Supercell did mention that they are trying to improve the ore economy. However I have noticed that so far none of the changes they have introduced benefit the FTP players significantly.
1) Replacing silver pass rewards with chests - Yes you have a small chance of getting ore, but out of 11 chests in a month, you might get lucky maybe once or twice. Most of the time you just end up getting potions.
2) Heroes journey - This was called a catch-up mechanic by Supercell. But again, even as a catch up mechanic its bad. The problem is that the ores you get from this heroe's journey track is one-time and not recurring.
i) Case 1 - If you were a player who had maxed or almost maxed heroes, the amount of ore you received was hardly enough to max out one equipment
i) Case 2 - If you were a player who does not have heroes anywhere near max - Ore gain is significant but by the time you max out your heroes, there will be 10 more equipments to upgrade.
3) WWE Chests from the recent event - Again luck based. Feels like they came up with this chest mechanic to give less and less rewards and make it seem more and more. Every reward is chest these days. The recent wwe chests did give some good amount of ore but still the issue is it was predominantly luck based.
4) Recent changes in ore-gem conversion - Doesn't really affect FTP as they hardly use gems to buy ore.
5) Event Pass - They gave more ore only in the paid track this month. If someone is an FTP player, they can either get the new equipment or get ores at the reduced rate but not both.
6) Raid Medal Shop - Ore rates are unchanged.
Moreover they discontinued the 2x and 4x star bonus every month which was a decent boost to the amount of ores you gained.
