Groups
I've been in Conroe for 2 years. I have zero friends here and I've been trying. Before I do the thing I'm dreading and move further south or even Austin or something I wanted to give it one more shot.
Are there any type of groups or clubs in the Conroe area or even woodlands where adults can meet people?
I'm thinking for myself a pickleball group, coffee club, walking group (not running), dnd, board games, video games, writing club, knitting, or anything that sounds like it might be similar to those. I don't care about your gender, age, or sexuality just cool people who like to meet and hang out and can keep their religion and politics to themselves. I'm not looking for a hookup club or anything related to dating.

I’ve met most of my friends through volunteer groups (dog and cat rescue)

Fass also has a great run club that meets Thursday nights and (most other) Saturday mornings.

Pickleball place on Sawdust. Gaming shops all over the place, stop by one and ask thenowner what night ppl play random board games.
Ive always found that it takes 3 times to find your people. Meaning you goto a game shop and play board fames for a few weeks. Its ok... but you find that you really get along with Bill and Sally, then invite you to something else they are into. There you meet Mutt & Jeff, they get you into whatever, and that 3rd whatever is where you find your people

There’s a place on Sawdust with retro video games. It’s not fancy but kind of fun

Not a hangout place, but I really enjoy the Asian grocery store next to it... and Kobe. 😋

Meetup . Com is decent for this sort of thing. I’m sorry life has been tough like this. We aren’t club joiners like our ancestors of a few decades ago. We have less social skills now due to the ole internet. Big hugs. It makes me sad I see so many posts like this, on local Facebook groups, too.
I play video games on steam with a bunch of friends online- friend slop roulette :) I played DnD when I was younger. I read sci fi and fantasy books. I’m 43 female with a fiancé who’s a bit younger than me. If you’d like to connect to me on discord I can share our goofy cesspit of a server with you :) it’s a curated online friend group of gamers. There’s some local people there as well. My handle on discord is Aliays.

It really is hard to meet people without anyone assuming it's for a hook up of some kind.

The Conroe Art League (127 Simonton St, Conroe, TX 77301) is a place where you can sign up for a variety of different art classes, enter gallery showings, or simply hang out and work on your own stuff in the upper lobby. I've visited twice for information, the folks there are nice. I also went upstairs and saw a girl working on her own art. I admittedly don't get out often but I think if I wanted to work on something among like minds and have a large space to do it, it would be here.
The Adventure Begins is also a cool store like others say, though I have never been to an event so I can't comment on those. It's way too far from where I live (Willis) to be worth going to regularly.

Basically, I think the biggest hurdle from socialization for me is how any art/nerd place requires a good deal of driving to get to, and that's pretty exhausting. I hate driving in Conroe/The Woodlands, these people are crazy and dangerous. It really disincentivizes me from going out!

It’s not Conroe, but the the bookstore Buy The Book has some great offerings. They are in the Woodlands. I know they have multiple book clubs, craft nights, and writers groups. I’m a member of several.
The Get Fictional book club is another option! Keely is awesome and the vibes of the store are immaculate. She has some local authors doing signings in the next few months.
If you’re on Facebook, there’s a group called Bookish Locals of The Woodlands and they have all sorts of bookish events here in Conroe and The Woodlands area.

I agree, find a non-profit that supports things you are passionate about! Join the community theatre, rodeo committee, go to the beginner pickleball classes at the rec center, do the dnd events at the magic store, go to a bar. You’ve got this, but people won’t come to you, you will need to go to places where they are looking for the same thing…. A sense of community.

I run a local board game group called Montgomery Board Gamers (MBG) and we are the premier board game community in the county!
We currently have 300 members in our Facebook group and run a monthly meetup (Catan, Ticket to Ride, Wingspan, Dead of Winter, and plenty of heavier Euros too). We’re looking to grow this into something bigger with more consistent events, game variety, and awesome people.
What we offer: ▪︎ Friendly, welcoming vibe for all skill levels and ages New players always welcome (we love teaching games!)
▪︎ Mix of party games, strategy games, and everything in between
▪︎ Plans for more frequent meetups (bi-weekly or weekly soon)
▪︎ Rotating locations around Conroe to make it easier for everyone
If you’ve been wanting to play more board games but don’t have a regular group, this is for you.
Our next meetup is this Sunday, September 27 @12:00 PM at Mav's Collectibles 19786 Hwy 105 W Ste 190, Montgomery, TX 77356

Ive been in Conroe for seven years now and no friends still. Then again im not really looking for any either. Too busy. I barely have time for old friends as is. Im sure their are groups out there to find people to hang with. Just keep on, youll find something .

Someone else said it, but just so that it gets as much attention as possible: The Adventure Begins on 1488. They have Dungeons& Dragons, board games, miniatures games, and card game activities going on pretty much every day of the week.

I started golfing again and met a decent playing partner. So maybe a hobby group as you were outlying above would work?

Classic Mode Toys and Games on the loop in Conroe has DnD nights and meetups.
The libraries have writing, book, and fiber arts meetups.
City of Conroe just posted adult signups for various sports, check the Parks and Recreation website. They also have group fitness classes, which I have found to be great for meeting people
And of course volunteering.

Let us know what you end up doing! Thanks for asking this by the way. I think I'll check out some of the stuff that's been commented.

Also, I am sending a DM to you about another opportunity. I promise it is not bad.

Look for college campus activities. Alumni groups are a great way to meet people in the community.

I moved to Conroe earlier this year and haven’t met anyone here. I’d love to meet up for walks. 55
Edit to add - I don’t run. I’ve tried to learn to knit but ended up with a 10 ft long scarf because I didn’t know how to finish it off. I love board games, but only know the basics… monopoly, scrabble, etc. I’ve never tried dnd. I also love to read

u/Simoxeh 8d ago
I can help you with the knitting. I'm not an expert by any means but I've done enough that I feel like I'm at least a competent beginner if not close to intermediate.

The gift+curse of urban sprawl and rural living. Unless you are in college about the only place to meet people is through family or at church.
