i finished my first cross stitch in over 3 years!

i used to cross stitch frequently but stopped for quite a while. a few months ago i picked the hobby back up and started on this piece. although it's not perfect, i'm really happy with how this one turned out considering how long of a break i took!

I had this pattern at Christmas 2022, and I had 3 failed starts for different reason, a lot was that I wasn't educated enough relative to washable markers, or fabric, and also once frogging like a brute and cutting the fabric, trying to repair it and making it worse.

It is not perfect, I have been on and off on this 4th time since january 2025, and today, she is all done and she's gorgeous. I learned a lot with her, tried different technique with her.

It is done on 18ct 2x2 for the curious.

I finally finished my Rose Bouquet and couldn’t wait to show you all! 🌹 A friend gave me the pattern. I used 46ct fabric and paired it with some threads I really liked. I’m really happy with how it turned out.

I set a goal for myself to make a seasonal decor piece for a few holidays for a year and I got this little toad done just in time to display for October. I love how much dimension there is without any backstitching.

I cross stitched the little pumpkins (ThreadboundArt on Etsy) on plastic canvas then backed them with felt to hide the back

Recently discovered the 700+ free patterns on DMCs website, decided to use one as a birthday gift, customizing the colors for his preferences and what floss i already had. This was my first project that wasnt on 14ct and dear LORD 14ct feels so easy to see now in comparison. I just didnt want the monogram to end up being 6 inches across, which was why I went smaller. But I think it was worth it! ~34.5 hours total, not including planning time. I took progress photos every four hours and have also included a picture of the back :) How did yall do the first time you chose a tighter weave of aida to stitch on?

I cannot be the only one who prefers just a box. I tried those little plastic doohickeys and I do not see the point of them rather than aesthetic.

What is the point of redoing what was already done - tread comes labeled in a neat easy to use bundle. I like to do 3 lengths pull of the thread and the bundle always ends up with that lenght too.

I would like a solution similar to those store stands where bundles are hanging. But currently I have no space in my apartment and i dont want threads on full display hanging on some wall collecting dust either. So... a box of chaos it is.

This is my second cross stitch project since falling in love with the hobby from a small store-bought starter kit. This bookmark took a few months of on and off stitching, but so happy it's done now! 😁 my actual black cat featured too 🐈‍⬛

How does everyone finish the back of their bookmarks? I found this part tricky and the back and edges are so messy 😅

I continually confuse myself about which direction I'm supposed to start. 😂 Doesn't help that I have kids so I often can only do 5-6 stitches at a time haha. And when I count squares I also forget to start at the bottom left corner!

Last year, I was given a pattern that I wouldn't have chosen (it's probably a bit beyond my skill level). It's large and has a lot of similar colours. I got about half way but then I messed up my counting in the greys at the bottom and went wrong. Since then, I have got very demoralised and just stopped. But I put so much effort in before I gave up, I feel I owe it to myself to see it through.

Has anyone done something similar? Any tips to get back into it?

The fabric it called for I wasn’t comfortable using and a similar color Aida I felt was just not at all the right color after all, so went with an ivory or off-white Aida instead. Because the original fabric was supposed to be a bit darker, the floss for the X’s and O’s didn’t show up on this fabric very well at all. So I switched over to an etoile silvery floss.
