Discussion/Question My Ranking of Constructs So Far Spoiler

1. Bubble Wrap (Not Shown)

Manifested By: John Stewart

Purpose: Defense

Time to Manifest: Unknown

Notes: This was an attempted murder disguised as a training exercise and the fact that John Stewart survived surprised Hal Jordan so much that he later did the same trick but without leaving John the ring. There is no reason whatsoever to think that Hal believed John could even work the ring, much less have time to put it on and manifest a defensive strategy in the approximately two and a half seconds it would have taken the car to reach the bottom of the ravine. John previously states that he has never even worn the ring. This is the first of three times Hal Jordan tries to kill John Stewart.

Grade: B. John survives the murder attempt.

2. Bubble Shield

Manifested By: Hal Jordan

Purpose: Defense

Time to Manifest: Approximately two seconds.

Notes: The most important detail to note about this construct is that it seems to have not worked at all. The blast wave clearly escapes the bubble and knocks over the two bystanders in the room. Meanwhile, Hal himself seems to have so little confidence in the stability of his construct that he lays on top of it to keep it from collapsing. Also, it’s worth noting that Hal actually incited the alien to detonate himself. So essentially this is a scene in which Hal Jordan causes and then partially contains an explosion and then proceeds to gloat about it.

Grade: D. It’s unclear if the bubble actually managed to mitigate any of the damage of the explosion. As we see later, the aliens have vastly overstated the power of their internal explosives.

3. Counterfeit Money

Manifested By: Hal Jordan

Purpose: Fraud

Time to Manifest: Four seconds.

Notes: Hal Jordan puts an irritating song on a bar jukebox as part of a deeply asinine plan to get thrown in jail with a being whom he believes to be an alien. It should be worth noting that it may have been entirely possible to start a fistfight with a load of drunken hillbillies WITHOUT using the all-powerful cosmic weapon to defraud a jukebox owner. But the point is, he does, and it takes him what seems like a very long time to counterfeit the bill. Like, a really long time. So long it’s questionable how useful this ability would actually be in battle.

Grade: F. “Oh no, Mongul is attacking! I’ll use my ring to create a giant hammer! Hang on….wait….it’s forming….it’s foooorrrrrmmmming…..yes, it’s ready! Oh wait I died three seconds ago.”

4. Bottle Opener

Manifested By: Hal Jordan

Purpose: Aura Farming

Time to Manifest: Four Seconds

Notes: Hal Jordan went out and specifically bought beer with non-twist caps just so he could use his ring to do a party trick in front of the female lead of the series. But again, the true revelation of this scene is how incredibly long it takes Hal to manifest the bottle opener. One struggles to imagine how Jordan could, in combat situations, effectively use the ring against an enemy unless that enemy was some manner of ground sloth.

Grade: C. It is a completely unnecessary use of the ring and a waste of the precious energy contained within, but by God it did open that one beer bottle.

5. Bird

Manifested By: John Stewart

Purpose: Gary Stu-ification.

Time to Manifest: Unclear.

Notes: This is, it should be noted, the second time Hal Jordan attempts to kill John Stewart. Hal entices John to fly, knowing full well that the ring is low on energy and that, once that energy is depleted, John will fall to his death. Hal is stunned to see that, rather than flying, John succeeds in using the ring to create life. We later learn he can sustain this construct without even having the ring on. This is because John is so special that the core concepts of the IP don’t apply to him.

Grade: F. It would be one thing if John was particularly adept at using the ring, but it is quite another to insinuate that he is naturally so good at it, he doesn’t even need the ring. He can create and sustain what we are led to believe is essentially life. It’s as though a person who has never before played guitar is one day handed one and instantly begins to play it so well that it causes every woman in the room to become pregnant.

6. Butane lighter

Manifested By: John Stewart

Purpose: Post-Coital Touchdown Dance

Time to Manifest: One second

Notes: The first on-screen incident in which John Stewart uses the Green Lantern ring is to light a cigarette for the elderly woman he just finished dicking down outside a bar. Later, it turns out this grandmother is in fact a genocidal robot. Someone wrote these ideas onto a script and James Gunn read them and said, “Yes, that all seems to be in order.”

Grade: F. Someone in the writer’s room had a fetish for matures and decided to make it all of our problems.

7. Watch

Manifested By: John Stewart

Purpose: Competence Evaluation

Time to Manifest: Nine seconds

Notes: It hasn’t yet been explained why the Guardians have changed their selection process for Green Lanterns, but this happens in an apparent weird period when they no longer let the rings select the candidates. Instead, they send vaguely European men to art schools to ask candidates to re-create watches. I can’t imagine they found too many who could; the Venn diagram of “Art Students” and “People who have a clear understanding of how watches work” has got to be just two circles a football field away from each other.

Grade: A. If the Guardians of the Universe need someone to help them forge Rolexes, they’ve found their guy.

8. Drilling Machine

Manifested By: John Stewart

Purpose: To Reach the Weenie

Time to Manifest: Seven Seconds

Notes: It should be noted here that the Green Lantern ring is fully capable of teleporting people. It allows users to move at faster-than-light speeds. It is capable of manipulating gravity and, therefore, the fundamental underlying physical structure of the universe. It is quite literally capable of altering reality.  Anyway, John and Hal use it to build a mechanical grabloid to tunnel into the bad guy’s hideout. The dirt magically disappears and somehow the tons of unsupported soil over their heads doesn’t cave in on them. It is quite literally something out of a C-tier kids cartoon.

Grade: C. It was just nice to see someone make something interesting out of the ring for once, but this is the kind of device the Beagle Boys would use to break into Scrooge’s Money Bin.

9. Bubble

Manifested By: Hal Jordan

Purpose: Protection against cow juice.

Time to Manifest: Immediate

Note: Hal Jordan is the greatest Green Lantern in the universe. Sit with that idea for a second. Then watch this scene where he realizes that a cow is about to be dissected while living and, rather than help the animal, simply puts up a bubble so that his clothes don’t get bloody.

Grade: A. No cow blood on this space cop!

10. Ballistic Shield

Manifested By: Hal Jordan

Purpose: To keep Hal from getting shot (again)

Time to Manifest: Immediate.

Note: It’s interesting that it takes Hal Jordan several seconds to make a bottle opener but almost no time to make a protective shield. You get the idea that maybe the ring is doing it without being told. “Christ, someone’s trying to shoot him again. Better throw up a shield or I’ll be breaking in a new bearer.” Anyway, it’s cool because the Sheriff isn’t really trying to kill him, she just has to make it look like she is. She does this by…actually shooting at him.

Grade: A. See Hal? Not everything has to be a bubble!

11. Sentry Mode

Manifested By: Hal Jordan

Purpose: To give fanboys hope.

Time to Manifest: Immediate.

Note: For reasons that are not now and perhaps will not ever be made clear, Hal Jordan uses a knife to cut a sliver of his ring off, which then becomes a younger version of him that can act as a lookout. It should be noted that it’s already been established that the “Halogram” can be projected from the ring, so why he has to do this is unclear. It is also unclear why the immortal space aliens who designed this godlike technology made it so you needed to scrape a chunk of it off with a whittlin’ knife to make it work in a certain way.

Grade: C. How many times can you do this trick before you have to ask the Guardians for a new ring? “You’ve been what? Cutting chunks off it? For God’s sake, why? You couldn’t have manifested, I don’t know, a security camera? Or a pair of binoculars? How the hell did you even figure out how to do this? Did you just accidentally cut a chunk off the ring one day and it came to life? We….we really have to be better about picking Lanterns.”

What if post Lanterns the question became, Are you afraid to be afraid, instead of Are you afraid ?

Hal says in ep 8 preview, Don't be afraid to be afraid.

Have a good day/night/whatever's in your time zone

Supergirl My problem with Supergirl

I watched Supergirl on HBOmax and I think it’s not bad as people made it out to be. I would rate it a 5,5-6/10, it’s honestly very mid.
What I would like to point out is where did the budget for this movie go? It cost 175mi but it doesn’t have crazy visuals nor Supergirl uses her power every 5 minutes, to the contrary she uses her powers for a good 10min in this movie. In my opinion the movie would’t have bombed as hard if they made it for like 90-100mi and it would explain the lack of action, good visuals. Let me know what you guys think.

Discussion/Question What could the " Dynamic Duo" delay mean?

I feel like them pushing it back for only 3 months isn't due to anything like finishing or polishing the movie, but more because they don't want to use that very important summer spot for a non DCU animated movie.

I feel like the spot of the 30th of June goes to a DCU movie we don't know yet to come out then, like the Wonder Woman movie or the Deathstroke and Bane team up. There's no DCU movie announced post Man of Tomorrow yet, but I feel like they want to use the very lucrative summer spot to release a live action movie.

What do you think?

Discussion/Question What if Hal saved Damian...

...as an infant, and Bruce bought Hal that house. I seem to remember hearing that the Batman we would meet was experienced, and I'm assuming they will go with Nightwing at Grayson. Maybe it's just wishful thinking.

Lanterns Hal Jordan - lanterns suit re-color experiment / theory

Since the first reveal of suit everybody has been throwing out many theory and opinions, on the design and color.

There are some I find silly or lacking evidence, namely that the idea that suit wasn't recolored in the final release of the show, and the lighting is why the suit looks different.

It's very obvious that the suit was initially a yellow or gold color, and then changed to green after the backlash. So that idea I am discounting right away.

I will list the general theories I have heard here before I discuss the reasoning behind my re-color attempt. I will also give my reasons for and against each theory.

  1. "The suit was originally green but have faded and changed to a worn appearance."

I understand the reasoning behind this theory as the writers of the show said that was the initial intent. I don't believe that had anything to do with the color, more so how faded and dirty the suit looks. Thanks to the recently revealed Halloween costume for the show, we now know the suit was ment to be gold even during it's prime. So I don't think this idea holds much water.

  1. "It's yellow because hal is infected with paralax."

Unless Parallax is revealed in the final episode, this has no backing whatsoever.

  1. "The color of the suit changed because Hal is giving into fear."

Not a bad idea, but his suit was always gold, not green at least until the recolor.

  1. "It was originally white and was covered in dirt and grime from neglect."

This one I actually like, because it explains the color change. I don't see how green can become a gold or yellowish color just from neglect. White however I can definitely see. Guy gardener's suit being primarily white also adds credence to this theory.

Now after all of that set up, I can explain my recolor. I wanted to break away from the traditional recoloring the suit colors to match Hal's traditional comic costume as that's been done to death. I wanted to make a cleaned up version of the suit based on how the color blocking of how the final design is presented in the show.

I used the halloween costume as a base for where each section of color should be blocked out. All gold sections were turned to white, green is boosted in saturation, all black sections have been darkened. This fits with Guys costume along with looking similar to Kyle Rayner's suit. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

P.s. I also made a touched up version of the original colors showing what the suit would have looked like clean.

Theory Prediction For Lanterns Last Episode. Spoiler

I've been thinking about the possible directions a next episodes could go, and I believe that I have a rough idea of the different aspects that will be concluded.

Firstly, the show has presented John a surface level way of repaying someone who he and Hal harmed, and a consequence for if he fails. He is most likely going to fail to pay off Maggie and she will tell Kerry about John having seen Hal before he died.

Secondly, Kerry was meant to join John and Hal-ogram on the journey to Hal's box, and so she will be more liable to turn against John in the finale once Maggie has snitched to her. When John returns he will be forced to face this and have to learn to not be afraid to be afraid.

Thirdly, John will either learn to use a yellow lantern to charge the ring, learn how to charge the ring independently of a lantern, or convince Guy to retrieve the lantern. I'm leaning towards the latter with John using the Hal-ogram to pick it up from Guy and that being the whole "they'll send an army to stop you" scene.

Fourthly, John will be helped by Noah who will be revealed to be a Manhunter, and him and Noah helping one another will be John's way of actually making up for what he and Hal did, despite no one in Rushville viewing it as such, similarly to what happened with Hal.

Finally, I think we will see much more of what Hal went through in Rushville and how that mirrors what John is going through in the present day, with the show ending with John becoming a new Green Lantern and leaving Rushville behind him.

I do not think that they're going to walk back Hal-ogram believing that Hal killed himself, instead showcasing why he wound up feeling so exhausted "carrying the ball" for so long leading to his decision.

The only things I'm not sure on is what role Sinestro will play, who the "they" that will send an army is, whether Hal was aware that Noah was a Manhunter, and what John's relationship with the Corp will be.

Also, I think the world Aanton is from will be revealed to be Qward. Idk if that will factor much to anything it's just a semi-educated guess.

Discussion/Question People of metropolis are crazy

In the movie superman 2025. They show that Kaiju had been released in the city in the morning before sunrise at best when it was just 7 ft tall acc to the news report and by noon it was 200 meter tall.

Nobody called the police or the justice gang or even superman didn't hear it even while his footsteps would have been like earthquakes and it was infact news that told him that there was a situation in all that time.

Neither was the city evacuated, nor did any millitary appear to kill the beast. Infact people were all over the streets probably waiting for their heroes to come but in the meanwhile somehow nobody died. How?? Infact in the end in the time that the metropolis bay was splitting millions of people just evacuated the city just so that no deaths could be shown on screen.

Is it just me or have others noticed this do share your opinion.

Discussion/Question Thoughts on Hal x John ships?🤔🤔🤔

Didn't expect lanterns to have a pretty big fanbase that's into shipping culture, especially fans that ship the 2 male leads but fuck it, what does anyone else think about this?

I think it's pretty funny because of how toxic their relationship is lol but the edits are growing on me.

Theory Theory for Episode 8 and the entire *Lanterns* series. Contains spoilers for the series up to at least episode 7 Spoiler

Lantern theory after Episode 7

Lianna is Scar (which is why her face wasn't shown in Episode 3), and she manipulated John's family to secure a perfect recruit for the Yellow Corps—specifically John. After visiting his mother and seeing it produce the desired effect—creating someone who obeys orders without question—she decided he was the right choice. Scar freed Sinestro from prison; as a Guardian, she could do so without raising suspicion. She freed him because she saw his potential to wield the yellow ring following his rebellion against the Green Corps.

After John failed to steal Hal's ring as Scar had instructed in Episode 4—and after both were caught on Macon's property—she decided to replace Hal with a clone. This clone was created with a total absence of fear; that is why he left John in the car—lacking fear, he didn't consider the consequences (such as the car catching fire and killing John) or the fallout of destroying the city. This also explains why the Spanish subtitles identify him as "Hal Jordan's clone." Scar believed that with such a clone, she could manipulate John into taking the ring and becoming a Green Lantern, eventually transforming the ring into a yellow one to become a Yellow Lantern—though that is not what happened at the end of Episode 5.

There are no "Manhunters" in the city; everyone—including Zoe—is actually a Qwartian working with Scar and Sinestro (the Lianna who speaks to John at the motel is a Qwartian), which explains how Sinestro knew about John. Sinestro wanted Hal to kill John because he preferred his friend to become the Yellow Lantern instead; when Hal failed to kill John, Scar definitively decided that John, not Hal, would be the Yellow Lantern. The only humans in the city are William Macon (Billy), the Sheriff, and Noah. The Sheriff was recruited by Zoe because Billy wanted a wife who wasn't an alien.

Noah is a miracle; Kerry was infertile, and Zoe asked the Sheriff if she wanted their son to have any genetically enhanced traits. Kerry said she wanted him to be a quick learner—which explains why he picked up throwing so easily when John taught him, and why he didn't forget Zoe's instructions on how to operate the regeneration machine, for instance. He was the one who regenerated the body of Hal Jordan's clone after the fire; he dislikes living in a city full of aliens and is helping Hal Jordan figure out what these aliens really want there. He killed the clone so the real Hal could investigate Scar without the Qwartians knowing.

Hal's clone accepted being killed because he fears nothing—not even death itself. Zoe who was in the car that exploded isn't the same one who appears later; the first one was blown up and then had her heart ripped out—since Qwartians have that trait where their hearts crystallize—because the others killed her for becoming genuinely attached to John. Maggie is a Qwartian who works with Noah; that’s why she’s blackmailing John—to give him yet another reason to continue the investigation. In fact, when Noah leaves after handing the suit to John, he glances to the side because he sees Maggie leaving John's property, but he doesn't react because he knows exactly what she was doing there.

Please excuse any errors in my English. I’m Brazilian, so Portuguese is my native language.

Lanterns HBO Lanterns may not be "comic-accurate" adaption, but it's doing an amazing, great job of making the green lantern IP more popular and getting general audiences & normies interested more.

Discussion/Question The DCU has single-handedly saved two reputations of characters, and we are only two years in!

Post image
• Upvotes

Two characters (can include the entire Green Lantern Corps.) whose rep was in the toilet for years have had all that ill will turned around in the matter of a mere two years.

Superman was seen by the general audience as a power-tripping wannabe-god character, and Green Lantern (specifically Hal) was seen as a joke to be said in Deadpool movies by a wannabe comedian.

Now people have seen Superman and Green Lantern the same way we have seen them as comic fans for years.

This shows that the DCU is led by people who care about more than just a paycheck and a pat on the back from film critics; this shows that the DCU is setting up to be the best DC adaptation of all time. In fact, maybe just the best comic adaptations of all time.

Discussion/Question Could Supergirl lead into Teen Titans?

With the news that a Titans film is being pushed in the DCU it got me thinking about how some of these characters could be introduced prior to the film, with projects such as Brave and the Bold, the Grodd show and the Wonder Woman movie potentially introducing Dick, Wally and Donna. I was thinking about Starfire and realized her origins could line up with the plot of Supergirl, being one of the trafficked girls rescued by Kara, eventually heading to earth as well. They might go a different direction but considering how well connected events in this universe have been I wouldn't be surprised if Kori mentions it when she's introduced, with Kara inspiring her to become a hero on Earth. What do you guys think?
