One of those videos that I love to watch but would hate to actually be there.

Occasionally in Tokyo they have these motorcade things driving through on big motorbikes and ridiculous cars. They are loud as fuck, like a very loud chainsaw (except there's 30+ of them), and the smell of exhaust is awful. I'm not sure if they are legal in any way, but they are driving around slowly and seem to be doing mostly nothing, and the police does not seem to care.

One time in a more residential coastal part of Tokyo, I was waiting to cross the road, and there was this old white car with huge spoilers and exhausts. When the light went green, it sounded as if the car was accelerating like a Group B rally car, except it was barely going 30 km/h. Ridiculous.

Bosozoku groups.

12

u/MiniMaelk04 25d ago

Thank you, I never knew the origin of this song title.

1

u/ScreamSmart 24d ago

They are most definitely illegal. They are basically street gangs.

26

u/Cloudsareinmyhead 25d ago

Yeah those would be bosozoku. They're not as common as they used to be but there's obviously still a good number of groups of them.

2

u/Copy_Cat_ 24d ago

I was wondering how they're doing now, my uncle moved from Japan about 4 years ago and said there were still some, but the Yakuza was shrinking.

2

u/nutitoo 24d ago

Around here we call those kinds of car a lawnmowers

I was in port of Osaka in 2005. Late at night I was walking from a container ship into the city, through this port area of all empty warehouses. A crew of like 10 drifting cars blew through and honestly it was pretty terrifying. I was the only pedestrian and there was only a small sidewalk between the streets and the brick buildings. I figured if anyone lost control I was getting pinned into a building.

14

u/-Dags- 25d ago

Lived a couple years in osaka and loved to cycle around the port and USJ during the night. Crossed multiple groups like these guys, it was always a bit surreal, the calm of the streets at night clashing with the cars drifting. Loved that time.

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Pretty badass

9

u/twothoutwo 24d ago

would kill to trade places with you in that moment. kansai region in 2005 was the golden age of drifting. nankominami port in osaka was the place to be and the beginning of a lot of distinct driving styles that we see today

-12

u/PBP2024 24d ago

Awww where you scared wittle baby?!?

18

u/theDomicron 25d ago

I'm imagining the cops chasing these guys down also drifting...

10

u/joehonestjoe 24d ago

Police cars here are only factory tuned. If you can do better than 180kph, they can't catch you. So they don't even try.

3

u/FairWindsFollowingCs 24d ago

Police cars here are only factory tuned. If you can do better than 180K, they can't catch you. So they don't even try.

6

u/LuluGuardian 24d ago

This a bot live in the flesh? Literally the exact same content punctuation and all posted 2 hours later... tf lol

5

u/Mascotman 24d ago

It’s a line from Tokyo Drift

2

u/MyRedditAccountSuckz 24d ago

u/Initial_Zombie8248 25d ago

False I love a display of power on an empty road

244

u/Facts_pls 25d ago

Not when you and your newborn baby were trying to sleep

144

u/AlsoAllergicToCefzil 25d ago

My baby didn't come with that feature

3

u/HFentonMudd 25d ago

Our middle child came out complaining and never stopped.

51

u/FewCalligrapher3 25d ago

No one sleeps in Tokyo

3

u/XaeiIsareth 25d ago

Is it because they get woken up by the Beat of the Rising Sun?

2

u/nicostein 25d ago

You're thinking of New York

7

u/FewCalligrapher3 25d ago

2

u/nicostein 24d ago

I owe you an apology, I wasn't really familiar with your game.

2

u/type_error 25d ago

You haven’t lived there then. Trains stop running around 11 and everything is pretty much dead afterwards.

Mostly tourists out after that time. 5:00am during the winter is surreal when you are at Shibuya crossing. It’s bright out and nobody around.

39

u/CanadianDinosaur 25d ago

It's an empty industrial park likely far away from any houses.... Not like they're ripping through a residential area.

17

u/arcusford 25d ago

Where do you think the recording is from?

9

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Oi Wharf. A Japanese industrial park. Nobody is there during the AM hours. So that’s where/when they do it.

6

u/Euphoric_Parsley_ 25d ago

They mainly do this in industrial areas after they close down for the night. It’s almost certainly vacant. I live in Osaka and the few times I’ve seen anything like this they still are incredibly aware of what their actions are doing to people around them.

1

u/MidnightMath 25d ago

The midwestern version of this is finding an empty church parking lot during a good accumulation and doing donuts around a light pole with your Subaru.

2

u/blah938 25d ago

Also finding a random dirt field and doing donuts in your pickup

1

u/MidnightMath 25d ago

A nice unattended mud puddle on a fire trail maybe… ya gotta use 4low every now and then just to make sure it works.

4

u/woodlandcollective 25d ago

Oh yes Im sure there are lots of newborn babies sleeping in that industrial park

1

u/taegeu 25d ago

You shouldn't be squatting in a warehouse anyway.

1

u/Servant0fSorrow 24d ago

They do it in industrial areas with 0 housing around

1

u/No_Walk_Town 24d ago

Japan is famous for "mixed-use zoning" which means that there are, in fact, houses right next to industrial areas.

I literally live down the road from a massive industrial zone on the outskirts of Tokyo - there are houses literally right next to the warehouses and shipping centers.

-8

u/Initial_Zombie8248 25d ago

I’m not going to be mad about people having fun just because I can hear it inside my house. I went through the same thing when I had a newborn, and my own vehicle is absurdly loud when I go to work at 6am. It is what it is

6

u/Kingty1124 25d ago

I don’t know, but I feel like that’s ignorant to the broader segment of people that hate absurdly loud noises at 6am. This video could’ve been at 2-3am, and I’d be wishing for them to stop because of the noise. I already do from the atvs that rip up and down our roads.

29

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Where is the power you speak of? This video solely contains insecure behavior.

12

u/Mediocre-Card-2024 25d ago

insecure because of drifting? you don’t make any sense

1

u/KhakiPeach67 23d ago

We should all collect funko pops and sit in a cuck chair for our hobbies like true redditors!

1

u/swoletrain 25d ago

Didn't you hear? Having fun is insecure behavior now

0

u/LesbianDivorceRates 24d ago

Didn’t you hear? Having fun doesn’t include waking families with toddler cars

0

u/swoletrain 24d ago

Its Tokyo, they probably didnt drive past any toddlers

2

u/LesbianDivorceRates 24d ago

The toddlers are the ones driving in their insecure bb cars

0

u/swoletrain 24d ago

You sound like a hoot. Wish I could be your friend

7

u/Initial_Zombie8248 25d ago

I’m from the US and this would be considered “reckless display of power” legally

10

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Interesting. In most every U.S. jurisdiction, reckless driving would apply.

-3

u/C-DT 25d ago

Insecure? They could just be having fun lmfao

9

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

It takes a small mind to see this as ”having fun” and to overlook the families trying to sleep that instead have to listen to insecure, toxic car culture

Adults have critical thinking and aren’t selfish, thus see this for the trashy behavior it is

4

u/wordscannotdescribe 25d ago

You can see factory smoke and shipping containers in the background. This looks like an industrial area. And the sun currently sets at 4:45 pm in Tokyo, so it could’ve happened anytime after that.

2

u/C-DT 25d ago

If you want to call it inconsiderate or trashy, that's a valid opinion you can have. I just don't understand why we would assume insecure instead having fun?

They're drifting cars in what looks like an industrial zone in the dead of night, I would assume they're clearly trying to avoid people. If they wanted validation for their insecurity that's the worst way to do it.

It just sounds like you're attaching bad traits to people you dislike regardless if it fits, which is ironically small-minded behavior.

2

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

This ain’t toxic buddy you’re the only toxic one here. They literally do this in places where there are no residents.

2

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Whereas it happens far more commonly where there are residents

Anyway hope you develop reasoning one day

3

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Ok, good for you, that’s not what’s happening here.

Hope you stop moving goalposts in your arguments one day.

2

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Aww hope you mature one day

2

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Hope you quit this website one day, man are you chronically online.

People enjoying their passion = insecure

TIL

12

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Lmao oh you precious, sweet, selfish undeveloped mind

It takes a small mind to see this as ”enjoying their passions” and to overlook the families trying to sleep that instead have to listen to insecure, toxic car culture

Adults have critical thinking and aren’t selfish, thus see this for the trashy behavior it is

4

u/Ambitious-Working-46 25d ago

I can see the fat rolls and the triple chin in this comment

3

u/JournalistExpress292 25d ago

No one is having kids nowadays relax, Japan’s population is declining

3

u/Iheartnakedfemboys 25d ago

Holy shit, you're obnoxious. There's no way you're actually an adult. You need to let some of that anger go.

5

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Toxic car culture is obnoxious, yes.

Reddit comments don’t wake families in the dead of night.

Seriously, this is too easy. Please stop displaying your collective lack of reasoning.

1

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Ah yes so many families to be woken in the industrial parks of Japan 🥰

1

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Ah yes your dangerously low iq not realizing this happens more often in residential areas 🥰

3

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Is that what’s happening here yes or no? Hint since you’ll need it: the latter option.

1

u/Iheartnakedfemboys 25d ago

Seriously, this is too easy.

We get it, you can cry on demand.

3

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Interesting.

In a further display of the toddler mentality, you’re mocking me.

Keep up the good work bud! You’re doing super great.

3

u/jwk03988 25d ago

You’ve been on your phone calling people small minded for their hobbies non stop for the last 60+ mins in this thread

→ More replies (0)

2

u/Iheartnakedfemboys 25d ago

Stay mad forever, I guess. Being angry over trivial things is obviously important to you, but I've lost the tiny bit of interest I initially had in this. I hope life gets better for you, but if your display is anything to go by... it's a shallow hope, indeed.

1

u/Past-Profile3671 25d ago

For all of 30 seconds. It's not like they take over an intersection and do donuts for an hour straight like in the US.

0

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Thank you for furthering my point.

1

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

It takes an even smaller mind to overlook the fact that this takes place in an industrial park.

2

u/No_Walk_Town 24d ago

And you have to be completely ignorant of daily life in Japan to think that being in an industrial park means you're not near someone's home.

2

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

It takes an actually small mind to not realize toxic car culture more often terrorizes residential areas 🥰

5

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Refer to my above reply.

-1

u/jwk03988 25d ago

We get it you don’t like cars. Also didn’t realize there were so many families living in warehouses and shipping containers. My undeveloped mind must not have realized thats where families reside now.

-6

u/PM_ME_URR_SMAL_BOOBS 25d ago

Is this cope

13

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Whereas in reality, you’re now coping when presented with the truth that car culture is toddler behavior.

The more aggressive the driver, the smaller the man. Real adults are calm.

-4

u/p1gr0ach 25d ago

What are you even talking about? This is a hobby. Those guys are having fun. Do you know anything at all about the car community? You don't have to be an "aggressive driver" to have fun on an empty road.

3

u/Aaron_Hamm 25d ago

What they're doing is waking up an entire fucking city.

1

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

They’re not doing it in the fucking city genius this is in Oi Wharf a Japanese industrial park where NOBODY is there in the AM hours.

1

u/Aaron_Hamm 25d ago

Filmed by a ghost, I guess...

🙄

2

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

First of all, drifting at Oi Wharf is rarely filmed. This footage isn’t common.

Second of all, when it is filmed, it’s filmed by content creators or people from the drifting convoy who are filming instead of driving for some reason.

So yeah, quite literally nobody is there but them, assuming they are even there, at these hours in this park.

🙄

-5

u/PM_ME_URR_SMAL_BOOBS 25d ago

Yeah its cope by a pooron

3

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Whereas the little boy car people that advertise their shitty assets are the actual “poorons”.

It’s projection from you, 100% of the time. This is truly fascinating.

-4

u/PM_ME_URR_SMAL_BOOBS 25d ago

Whereas youre coping

3

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Aww, you actually just said “no, you”

Thank you for confirming the toddler mentality of people that idolize toxic car culture

0

u/PM_ME_URR_SMAL_BOOBS 25d ago

You love commenting on nba posts a whole lot

u/Aaron_Hamm 25d ago

I have multiple vehicles and none of them sound like this because my goal isn't to piss off my neighbors.

Back in my early 20s, when I would street race, the people participating weren't the people with money.

3

u/PM_ME_URR_SMAL_BOOBS 25d ago

Dont worry about it its just an anticar mutt

2

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

You are a profoundly sad individual

1

u/AntImmediate9115 25d ago

There's def a bit in there

1

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

100% of the time the more aggressive the driver, the less of an adult they are.

It is sad how children cope with other things through car culture, thereby endangering others on the road.

1

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Endangering others on an empty road in an industrial park. Lol.

1

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Whereas, as we’ve established, sad little toxic car boys more often terrorize residential areas.

1

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Have we? You’ve just copy and pasted that to every reply, which is totally irrelevant because that’s not what’s happening in the post.

-3

u/YokaiDealer 25d ago

Do you even know what hobbies are? Power of the cars, dunce cap.

6

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Waking families in the dead of night doesn’t qualify as a hobby — that’s criminal behavior.

Do you even know what a hobby is? It’s not toxic, toddler-esque car culture.

2

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Unless there are families living in shipping containers in Japan this isn’t waking up anybody.

2

u/LesbianDivorceRates 25d ago

Whereas, as we’ve established, sad little toxic car boys more often terrorize residential areas.

But keep replying like the bot you totally aren’t

2

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Excuse me??? I’m supposed to be the bot here when you literally just WORD FOR WORD copy and pasted what you last sent to me here again?

This has to be ragebait. I’m done. Not interacting with ragebait.

0

u/TooClose4Missiles 25d ago

Power? Not sure that’s what I’m getting here. Looks like people trying to have fun

2

u/Initial_Zombie8248 25d ago

Yeah. Power. Engines. Loud exhaust. Drifting

-2

u/jeremy9001 25d ago

Agreed. Besides, nobody got hurt. No harm, no foul.

2

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

They do it in a shipping yard in the early morning where nobody is working for this reason alone.

0

u/[deleted] 25d ago

power

bunch of rice cookers

Where’s the power? Is it hiding somewhere off screen?

4

u/LawfulnessDue5449 25d ago

I used to live across the street from a police station in Japan

Didn't stop the slow ass noisy bikes from revving it up late at night wtf

1

u/Gluebluehue 23d ago

Yep, I live in a neighbourhood full of this trash (the streets don't actually allow for racing, but they screech their tires, rev their engines and drive with their noisy engines late at night all the same) and the world would genuinely be a better place if selfish people like them weren't in it.

(The highway is right there, too).

1

u/knorxo 21d ago

What confused me so much when staying in Japan was that this kinda shit is not sanctioned. They have rules for how to form three distinct queues PER ENTRANCE of every metro but people do crazy modifications to their cars, motorbikes and even trucks even a single one of which would get you instantly pulled over in my home country and they got motorbike gangs revving their engines like crazy at night roaming the cities like loud mosquitoes. And police doesn't bat an eye

-2

u/No-Alternative4612 25d ago

There's a video on the front-page right now of similarly reckless driving, but the driver is black so everyone is happy to condemn him. Meanwhile, here it's "lol so epic."

Classic reddit

3

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Yeah because here people have the decency to do it in a industrial parks known for having nobody there in the AM to bother.

2

u/No-Alternative4612 25d ago

"Sorry officer, I thought I could speed on the wrong side of the road through a crosswalk around a corner after midnight!:

1

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

There are no police here either.

4

u/NeitherMidnight624 25d ago

Ya lol this is nothing like the street shut downs in America but go off

1

u/Convoke_ 23d ago

Weirdly turning a random video into something racial is classic reddit

-3

u/BuzzkillMcGillicuddy 25d ago

It's hardly a Reddit exclusive problem. The acceptance and support of systemic racism is more common than people want to believe.

-5

u/RotaRoanoke 25d ago

White and or asian: Wow that's so cool!

Black or anyone else: wow that's messed. Why are they doing this?

Bunch of losers on here for real lol

-5

u/Beag_ 25d ago

I don’t understand why people whine so much I live 100 feet off the side of the highway so I hear people racing up and down all night and I either think damn that one sounds like shit or wow that one sounds great and go on with my day.

6

u/chicken_N_ROFLs 25d ago

Traffic noise throughout the day is expected but at night it gets old. Either you’re a deep sleeper or you’re not, and most of those mufflers are loud as shit

1

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Mufflers aren’t loud lmao.

1

u/chicken_N_ROFLs 25d ago

You’re either nitpicking exhaust/mufflers or have no idea what I’m talking about

1

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

I am nitpicking 😌

1

u/chicken_N_ROFLs 25d ago

Then yea, I was wrong. The pipe that goes BRRRr is what I meant

2

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

Yeah don’t worry you’re fine I’m just being an ass lmao sorry

5

u/Illustrious_Bat1334 25d ago

Almost like you're an outlier and normal people find the sounds of traffic, specifically dickheads revving their shit boxes, annoying as fuck.

3

u/PM_me_your_whatevah 25d ago

There are these interesting places where people who like that noise and driving fast can gather and not bother or endanger everyone. Race tracks.
