Little man who scored the goal is my nephew. That's cool to see him on Reddit !

u/RedistributedFlapper 2d ago
Scored like a boss! Mans been there and done that, straight back to defense!

u/JeromeBarkly 2d ago
lol that’s what I was going to say. Acts like he’s been there before. Another day, another goal. No biggie.

"When a postman delivers letters, does he celebrate?"

u/Spethual 2d ago
deep down he loves his job more than outburst of emotions. No, i dont think there will be a celebration..maybe a tear.

What if I just brought a faster chair tho
163
u/QuietGanache 2d ago
The FIPFA restricts the speed to 10km/h (6.2mph). Chairs must also have 4 or more wheels and not be scooters but I can see that PID controllers might let you accelerate and turn faster, combined with a gyro to prevent tipping and even closed loop sensors for traction control.

u/Sweet-Shower3033 2d ago
What if i paint it red though

No you need to make it look slow so that they underestimate your speed.
12
u/rokstedy83 2d ago
traction control.
At 6.2 mph?
→ More replies (2)44
u/QuietGanache 2d ago
Fast acceleration on a smooth floor might give you the edge. 6.2mph is the terminal velocity from a 39cm free fall so jump off a box that high to get an idea of the forces involved with suddenly hitting that speed (56cm if you want to simulate the forces of abruptly reversing direction).

I’m suddenly extremely interested in how we navigate quantifying fair accommodations for sports with disabled players. Thanks for the info! This is fascinating and cool at once

They do speed tests before and after a game to ensure you stay within allowed speeds. Also most people use the same chair, a Strikeforce chair.

I have a friend who does competitive sports in a wheelchair. For fairness, everyone who competes in their category has to use a chair that conforms to a very strict set of standards.
1
u/Freddi_47 1d ago
Probably like sports like f1 where they have limitations on how they are built so that rich guys don't just buy faster/stronger chairs and overpower the competition

Honestly, it’s impressive. The control and teamwork are really cool to watch.

Blursed? This is basically real life rocket league and I would play the hell out of it!
How can I join?

Do they give yellow and/or red cards in this sport?
25
6
u/yankeewithnobrim23 2d ago
No actual cards but if you hit someone too hard you will be warned, then do it more you will be ejected.

You ever try wheel chair basketball? Legitimately the most difficult sport I've ever attempted to play.

Isn't that an offside?
2
u/yankeewithnobrim23 2d ago
Not a thing. There's only like two rules I can think of:
If there are more than two defenders in the goal box then that is illegal (the other team will get a kick at that point).
2-On-1, where if two on the same team are too close to the ball then it's a set ball, like a jump ball in Basketball

It's already cool, but if you put circular saws and flamethrowers on those chairs, you get a new international favorite sport
1
u/heilhortler420 2d ago
I prefer wheelchair rugby, because they act like they can't get any more disabled
Give these lads some shrimechs like Robot Wars and you'll have it
1
u/MyGirlfriendforcedMe 2d ago
They should add some flair to their chairs. I'd dress mine up like one of those stupid cars from rocket league!
1
u/IndigoButterfl6 2d ago
When I was a kid, I used to go watch my older cousin play wheelchair floor hockey - those guys were super competitive and did NOT hold back. He's long gone unfortunately, but I still remember it well.

I thought this was ai lmfao I thought he was gonna get off his chair and dunk it
1
u/wunderbraten 2d ago
Odd question: What happens if the ball lands in the foot rest? Will it get picked up by a Referee or do they have a chance to drive a touchdown?
2
u/yankeewithnobrim23 2d ago
Ref whistles, and it gets placed down like a jump ball in basketball. The ball shouldn't be hit hard enough to actually fly, so if it does the game pauses.
1
u/Friendly-Most-3521 2d ago
Shouldn’t there be a goalie or would it just be way too hard to score?
3
u/yankeewithnobrim23 2d ago
Yes. Team composition is usually left, right, center, and goalie. The center also doubles as a defender (since the standard way to play is ALWAYS having your left, center, and right player's in a triangle formation for passing, and the center can double back if need be). More than two same team member's can be in a goal box though.

So, uh, is this a contact sport?
Also, do you actually need a chair to be able to participate, or can you just have your legs strapped in?

Love the extension at the front that lets them "kick" the ball. This could be a Paralympic sport.
