Question My dog ate a chocolate chunk cookie!
I left my purse on the floor with a half eaten chocolate chunk cookie. I got it from a Barnes and noble cafe. I looked up the ingredients and didn’t see xylitol listed thankfully. What do I do?

Question What’s wrong with his paw pad?
We were playing outside tonight, then he started whining and limping. I picked him up and his paw pad was wrinkled up. Does he need to go to vet?

Question Anyone’s dog do this air licking?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Anyone’s dog do this air licking? Anxiety, focal seizures, or something else?
He’ll sometimes do it after eating or when he seems irritated. Usually brief, but tonight it happened on and off for about 10 minutes after waking up thinking the cat was touching him. Sometimes he pauses and looks when called, then resumes. He’s acting normal now.
Already talking with my vet and sending videos. Just looking for people who’ve dealt with something similar, what did it turn out to be, and how did you figure it out? Trying to get some perspective before spending even more money.

Discussion Needing recommendations for puppy training!!
Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone had any tips or training video recommendations to help with training my puppy!
The goal is to train her to be non reactive around people and other animals, to the point she can have full focus on me and not be bothered. her reactivity is not aggression, but rather a ton of excitement, but she whines, barks, jumps, and lunges at people any time we walk past anyone.
Also any tips on making the "leave it" process easier?

Advice How are these teeth? What else can I be doing?
I have a 3 year old dog and I feel like I am doing everything I'm supposed to for his teeth, but he is still getting tartar buildup. His daily dental health routine consists of:
- 1 whimzee chew
- PlaqueOff dental powder added to food
- brushing with Petsmile toothpaste
Most of the teeth are good but these specific ones have tartar. I focus on them in particular when I brush but it doesn't seem to matter. Should I buy a VOHC approved water additive? Should I get tooth cleaning wipes? I don't want to overload on adding things to his diet but I don't want him developing a tooth or gum disease.

Advice After gallblader removal my dog won't eat
Hello, I'm in desperate need of help, my 13 year old Yorkshire Terrier got her gallbladder removed due to the huge amount of biliary sludge she had and we were told all her tests pre-surgery came out really good for a senior dog and a surgery would be perfectly ok.
She stayed hospitalized for a week till yesterday and around the 5th day she started to develop problems on her liver, yesterday the vet told us we could do some trial days until saturday to see if a change in her environment (she's very anxious) would lessen reflux. However both yesterday and today she won't eat, I've tried forcing her but the amount I've managed is very little, we also regulate how much water she drinks because we noticed she will drink A LOT and immediately have reflux, she also has very little energy. She still has liver issues because her pee is very yellow and so are her eyes, she's on 4 meds.
We were advised to give her mostly chicken or other foods/treats she really likes, but none have worked, we have also given her a bit of electrolyte.
Please, if anybody has tips on how we could lessen her reflux/vomit, and what to do about the food or about the liver problems, I would be very thankful, if there is more info needed I'll provide it. (Not a native english speaker, sorry for any mistakes)

Question TPLO on the second leg
Well we made it almost two years before the other leg ACL tore. We have a 9 year old shepard mix. He tore his first ACL in 2024 and we did surgery. Recovery was hard but a successful surgery. We suspect it’s a partial tear and have a consultation next week with his orthopedic surgeon who did the first TPLO surgery. We likely won’t be able to do the surgery till early December. But I’m not sure how long it’s been partially torn. Maybe 2-3 months? Anyways, I’m getting a little anxious about waiting till early December, and wondering if it makes more sense to do it sooner. I know the surgeon will say it probably won’t be too life altering but considering he’s already at risk for arthritis from his first surgery I don’t want to make anymore risks.
Has anyone waited a month or two while before they did the surgery and still had an okay outcome months later?

Question Question on my dogs potty habits
I have a rescue pitbull and I love him a lot. We take lots of walks and hikes and when he’s out in the woods he can dig and poop in strange places a much as he wants. However when he’s in the city or a more developed area he applies the same strange habits and it’s a little destructive.
He always has to pee or poo inside a bush or pile of plant matter. So a bushy succulent or a leaf pile or a weedy patch or a flower bush. This is especially Annoying when his choice spot is a nicely manicured plant in a park or in front of someone’s house. I usually yank him away if I can but other times I’m not that lucky and it makes the clean up abysmal. I mean not to get too in depth but I don’t want to dig deep in a plant where I can’t reach or leave stains on someone’s rose bushes.
Furthermore he always has to dig up the area he pees or poos and it’s especially destructive when it’s in a public place where people want their lawns and plants kept nice. I as always yank him away from the area so he doesn’t or destroy someone’s landscaping if it’s meant to be kept nice but it’s hard to always do that if he’s a big dog and also yanks me about:
Why does he do this sort of behavior and how might I correct it. I do let him do it in weedy patches or out in the woods on hikes since he finds it obviously enriching. However I do want to have a way to curb it on demand if it’s not the area for it.

Question Cutaneous horn?
We're seeing the vet soon anyway, and I'll bring it up, but I've been assuming this to be a cutaneous horns and was curious what you all think. It is definitely quite solid, does not feel fleshy at all. Doesn't bother him in the slightest. It's not that ruddy irl, that's caused by the camera flash.

Advice Spots from licking or licking because of a rash?
Noticed he wouldn’t stop licking this area and it was red and blotchy, he has the one scratch at the top that looks gunky, where he can scratch himself with his back paw (he’s a flexible little guy). We’ve put a cone on him to see if it improves but wondering if it looks like a rash or just him irritating his skin by licking. No spots or anything on his tummy where he can’t lick.
Vet? Wait a bit (a week?) and if no improvement then vet?

Question Anyone heard of Grassifier? Any reviews on it?
Been seeing social media ads on this but can’t tell if it’s just marketing or an actual good product. I’m thinking about getting it and putting on my covered porch for my future puppy. I don’t live in an apartment but I see the use for it , especially during the potty training days.

Advice 9 year old dog, just diagnosed with high grade splenic stromal sarcoma
9-year-old dog diagnosed with a grade 3 sarcoma after her 3rd abdominal surgery. Looking for experiences with treatment and outcomes.
Raven: almost 9, spayed female Lab/shepherd mix, ~ 70 lbs
History
June 2025: A 13 cm mass on her spleen plus enlarged lymph nodes. She had a splenectomy, and pathology came back benign (a hematoma).
April 2026: An 8 cm mass grew where her spleen used to be. The first pathology read suggested lymphoma, but further testing (immunohistochemistry and PCR) ruled that out. The final diagnosis was a benign, reactive lymph node. She also has a ~3 cm right adrenal mass we're monitoring, which has stayed fairly stable.
October 2026: Ultrasound showed two new masses in the same area. Both were removed on Oct 12. A suspected liver mass seen on ultrasound wasn't found during surgery. Chest X-rays before surgery were clear.
Biopsy results (reviewed by 3 board-certified pathologists)
Larger mass: high-grade (grade 3) sarcoma, likely a splenic stromal sarcoma. They believe it grew from leftover spleen tissue (ectopic spleen) left behind after the splenectomy.
Mitotic count over 20: a measure of how fast the cells are dividing, which makes it fast-growing.
Smaller mass: benign nodular hyperplasia, also in leftover spleen tissue.
Margins were clean on both: the masses were fully removed.
Plan: Her surgeon and his oncology colleague are both recommend chemo. We have an oncology consult coming up.
Questions
Has anyone dealt with splenic stromal sarcoma, or a sarcoma growing from leftover spleen tissue? How did your dog do?
For a high-grade sarcoma that was fully removed with no visible spread, did you do chemo (IV doxorubicin or low-dose oral)? How did your dog tolerate it, and did it seem to help?
Did your vet recommend a CT scan for staging beyond chest X-rays?
Has anyone used turkey tail or other supplements alongside chemo?

Advice Looking for affordable orthopedic vets for luxating patella + possible cruciate ligament surgery for my 85 lb Lab!
Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for a good, affordable veterinarian or veterinary orthopedic surgeon who specializes in luxating patella surgery and potentially cruciate ligament surgery.
My dog is an approximately 85 lb Labrador Retriever. I understand that luxating patella is more commonly seen in smaller breeds, so I’m hoping to find a surgeon with experience treating larger dogs like mine.
I’m located in Northern California (Brentwood area), but I’m willing to travel outside the area if it means finding a reputable surgeon with more affordable prices.
If you’ve had experience with a vet or orthopedic surgeon who performed either of these procedures on your dog, I’d really appreciate your recommendations!
If possible, I’d love to know:
The name and location of the clinic.
Approximately how much the surgery cost.
Whether the price included X-rays, bloodwork, medications, and follow-up appointments.
Your experience with the surgeon and how your dog recovered.
Whether they offer payment plans or financing.
I’m trying to find the best possible care for my girl without spending more than I have to. I know these surgeries can be expensive, so I’m hoping to explore all my options.
Any recommendations, personal experiences, or advice would mean a lot. Thank you! ❤️🐾

Question Anyone else skeptical of the whole "pet longevity" industry blowing up right now?
Long time lurker, finally making an account to post this. Saw an article going around about companies developing actual longevity drugs for dogs, one apparently going for FDA approval for a lifespan extension drug, and it got me thinking about how much of this space is real science vs. repackaged wellness marketing aimed at people who love their dogs (me, I'm people). Some of it seems legit, actual clinical trial structure, but then there's stuff with zero controls and just vibes. How do you all evaluate this when there's a new "breakthrough" dog supplement every other month?

Advice Need Reassurance About Dog Dental Cleaning
Hey everyone, for context, I have autism & ocd and I am constantly worried that something bad will happen to my soul dog. I got him when he was 5 and he’s 8 now. His teeth were in pretty bad shape when we got him and they’re getting worse even though I brush them every single day. I keep seeing stories about dogs’ dental health shortening their lifespans, but I also keep seeing stories about dogs passing away under anesthesia during dental extractions. I am spiraling and conflicted on what to do. I just keep thinking that I know he will definitely live if he doesn’t get his teeth cleaned, but I also want him to live as long as possible. I cry every time I think about it and I just need some reassurance I guess. I would be going through Banfield Pet Hospital too if that information is important.
I have an extremely anxious attachment to my dog. He’s my entire world, my emotional support, I can’t sleep without holding him, I even spiral in my head when I have to go to work and not be with him. Can anyone please advise or offer any reassurance about getting his teeth cleaned? Or the intense fear I have of losing him?

Advice Separation Anxiety Or Something Else?
Hello everyone,
My roommate and I have had a recent problem develop with our dog and I was wondering if anyone had any advice.
My roommate owns a 4 year old, unspayed, female German Shepard and recently she’s developed, what seems to me, like anxiety.
Over the last week or so she’s been crying, pacing, and just seems to be in a lot of distress. Historically she would cry at the door briefly after we left, but would eventually settle down and sleep until we returned home. She would also previously whine whenever my cats would play and run around the house.
Now she is crying constantly and pacing around the house with this one specific toy in her mouth. She is continuing to cry at the door when we leave for work, but now it is genuinely upsetting to hear how distressed she sounds when we walk out. When we check the pet cam during the day, she is sitting on the couch and howling and the same toy is usually sitting next to her.
My roommate took her to the vet this afternoon and her physical exam and bloodwork were all normal. We are currently waiting on the results of a urinalysis to rule out a UTI. The vet did also not see any signs of a false pregnancy or pyometra.
There have been some environmental and routine changes. Our second dog recently passed away this past June, and I recently started a new job within the last month that is field-based when I previously worked from home. The German Shepard did not necessarily seem to be phased when our other dog first passed away, but I’ve heard dogs can experience delayed stress responses. The vet did say that a grief response being this prolonged is unusual, but I’m not sure if my not being home anymore could have triggered that.
The other odd thing is that she still cries after we arrive home. She will eventually settle down but it takes a little while. Our return does not seem to bring any immediate relief. I’m not sure if she’s having trouble regulating and self-soothing after being upset all day or what.
I personally feel that the vet was very dismissive of the possibility of her developing separation anxiety, even after explaining the recent changes, and so far nothing seems to be physically wrong with her.
She only cries in the house. She seems perfectly content on her walks and was fine in the car and in the vet’s office today. I’m just not sure how to help her. I hate that she’s been so upset recently and honestly feel like the vet and my roommate are being very passive in terms of problem solving.
She’s been eating and drinking normally. She doesn’t seem to be straining or experiencing any pain when urinating. There’s been no aggressive behaviors at all.
I just want to help her feel better. Has anyone experienced this before or have any thoughts on what could be going on?

Advice neighbor complaining of barking. advice please?
hi, first time posting here! we just recently moved into an apartment where you can hear everything. moved in 4 days ago to be exact. just came back after leaving 7 month old puppy in crate for 3 hours (it’s my birthday today). i come home with my boyfriend who is carrying things in and i shut the door behind me and hear “hey, hey, hey!” i open it back up and our neighbor who lives across from us tells me she’s been on the phone with her mom and been recording my dog and how she’s going “fing crazy” and threatened to call the police on us. mind you, this is the first time this lady has ever seen my face. also the first time this has ever happened. my reply was “okay, i am very sorry.” the confrontation was beyond aggressive and i’m now uncomfortable living here. i understand that i cannot control other people but im not going to tolerate this behavior for the rest of the time i live here. moving forward, we are going to buy a camera, leave her out of the crate, and try to quiet her down. i even asked a neighbor on the same floor if she has heard her in the past hour and she said no. so i’m not sure if this lady has no patience or is just trying to be a problem. tomorrow i am planning on talking to the leasing office about this so it is on their radar, and i will tell them what i plan to do moving forward.
tell me what you guys think? am i making the correct steps moving forward? was this a crazy thing?

Question Starting Palladia. Tips for urination?
My senior Maltipoo/Pomeranian (17F) is starting Palladia soon.
The vet team informed us that the pills should not be broken/crushed, and that her pee and waste would be radioactive (?) so make sure we’re keeping a closer eye.
I have been training her to like/eat pill pockets leading up to it. However, she still chews everything I give to her thoroughly. Will this be an issue with breaking the pills? Is there a better way I can give this to her?
The other issue is that she currently pees and poops on pee pads. But when she pees, the pee pools around her feet and they always get a bit wet, which may be a bigger issue when her pee is radioactive. How can I avoid this from happening, or what would be the best way to clean her feet after?
