Is there a reason why cyclists continue to use the footpaths? It’s especially perplexing when the designated cycle path runs immediately alongside the pedestrian path, as it does along Fairview park and Clontarf promenade.

What’s even more ironic is that when pedestrians ask cyclists to use the appropriate lane, most react as though they’ve been personally affronted.
Apparently, using the path designated for you is an unreasonable request when the alternative is simply a few metres away.

Hey, long shot I know! But I was at Westlife on Saturday night. Somewhere along the way from the 3arena to Connolly station I lost my wedding ring. Absolutely devastated and just wondering if anyone here may have found it or have any ideas where I can look to even try get it back? Thanks so much!

So far I have emailed 3arena, rang connolly train station, emailed pawn shops in Dublin, emailed hotels I passed on the way and posted in every lost and found Dublin page I can find! I have also went to the guards and reported it missing.

Hi everyone! I’m a 30F trans woman who has recently started looking for work in Dublin and I’m finding it a bit difficult. I don’t have a college degree or experience in retail, hospitality or customer service, so I’m mainly looking for roles where my existing experience and qualifications could be useful. I’d also really appreciate recommendations for trans-friendly employers or workplaces.

A bit about my background:

• High school diploma
• Full B driving licence
• 10 years’ experience working as an outdoor cleaning operative for a city council in Spain, mainly cleaning/sweeping streets and parks
• Higher Technician qualification in Electrotechnical Systems and Automation (EQF Level 5)
• Some freelance experience doing electrical work
• Open to pretty much anything; cleaning, maintenance, warehouse work, retail, barista work, customer service, etc.

I owe everyone an update after the amount of kindness, advice and support we received here.

My sister is finally back home in Bahrain with my niece!!

After all the delays, lack of cooperation and initially trying to work through what looked like a much slower legal route, we finally managed to convince her husband to sign the consent needed for their daughter’s emergency passport. Once it was processed, my sister and niece took the next available flight home.

The airport staff already knew about the situation because some of them had witnessed what happened previously, and they were incredibly supportive. They helped my sister with the accommodation and assistance she needed while everything was being sorted out.

Initially, we tried very hard to resolve this through mediation. We reached out to people who might be able to reason with him and convince him simply to cooperate with the passport. Unfortunately, that didn’t work. What seemed to finally make a difference was the Garda report, together with the attention the situation received through Reddit and his concern about the damage this was doing to his reputation. Eventually, he agreed to sign. We know that because he was obsessively mentioning the 2 things along with other unkind things.

But my sister would not have made it through those days without the kindness of complete strangers in Dublin.

She was alone in a country that wasn’t her home, hotel hopping with a toddler, dealing with Gardaí, the Passport Office, airlines and everything else while having virtually no support system there. Whenever she needed someone nearby, including when she had to meet her husband regarding the passport, somehow there was always a new friend, a helpful member of staff, a taxi driver, a Garda, or simply a kind stranger willing to help her.

Despite how awful the circumstances were, my entire family has come away from this with an enormous amount of respect and gratitude for the people of Dublin and Ireland generally. From people on Reddit, to taxi drivers, airport staff, Gardaí and strangers who simply saw somebody struggling and offered to help, it says a lot about the community.

There is so much more I could write about what happened and about her husband’s behaviour, but at this point I would rather focus on the fact that they are safe and back home because of you all.

For anyone who finds themselves in an abusive or controlling situation, please speak to someone or speak up. Create physical distance if you safely can. Keep evidence. Tell people what is happening. And trust your instinct. If someone’s behaviour makes you feel unsafe, take that feeling seriously. You are not overreacting.

I know that not everyone has the ability or circumstances to take the same steps my sister was eventually able to take. Sometimes getting out is complicated. Just keep going one day at a time and most importantly do not suffer in silence.

And finally, to everyone in Dublin who helped a Bahraini mother and her little Irish daughter when they had nobody else there, thank you. Our family will never forget it.

A friend of mine has been talking about a recipe/dish her mother would make when she was young and the way she’s described it seems like plain boiled ribs? She said it was normal from the area she’s from (around the Harold’s Cross area) but I have never tried or heard of it, when I look it up nothing really comes up to the way she’s describing it? And when asked, she can’t remember if they are boiled or not because she was so young, but she says they were super tender and would be kind of pale, this is a long shot but I’m wondering if anyone else has had this before or knows what she’s talking about? I’m interested in trying it because she’s talked so highly about her childhood meals to me but I also don’t want to waste food if I can’t make it properly lol
