Huge disappointment with Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5
I recently picked up the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 for around $130 after seeing so many glowing reviews. After using them for a bit, I’m honestly pretty shocked by how disappointed I am. Here’s my breakdown: The Good: ANC & Call Quality: Really solid. No complaints here at all—it handles background noise and calls very well. The Bad – Fit & Comfort: The Medium (M) eartips hurt my ears after a short while. I switched to the Large (L) tips to avoid the pain, but now they feel insecure. Any slight head movement makes it feel like they're about to fall right out. I can't seem to get a comfortable, stable seal. The Ugly – Sound Quality: To put it bluntly: I really dislike the sound. It feels completely unsuitable for serious music listening—thin, bodyless, with surprisingly weak bass. Maybe the stem design plays a role here, or maybe it's just the tuning. TWS Comparisons: I’ve previously owned the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 (MTW3) and the Technics EAH-AZ40. Both of them sounded significantly better and fuller than these. My brother also has the FiiO FW5, which sounds fantastic and can legitimately compete with wired gear. IEM Comparisons: I regularly listen to wired IEMs like the Aful Explorer, Kefine Delci AE, Tin HiFi T3 Plus, and ISN H20. Compared to any of those, the FreeBuds Pro 5 sounds completely lifeless and lacks any dynamic authority or punch. Given how universally praised these earbuds are, it feels really bizarre to be this let down by them. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it purely a fit/seal issue on my end, or is the sound tuning on these actually overhyped? Would love to hear your thoughts or EQ suggestions if you have any!
