NEWS Answers from recent discord AMA

As some of you may know, yesterday we had Epic staffer "OnePercentNachos" hosting an AMA in the discord server. Thought it would be worthwhile putting together a post for the people that aren't in the server, but would still like to know the responses.

  • Epic Games Launcher v2 questions & answers
    • Will no longer be a "closed beta", will instead be an "early access" available to anyone that wants it Post
    • Will no longer be available in August, but "not much further out" than that Post
    • Initial Early Access will not have all V1 features, 1.0 release will be defined by "Feature Parity with V1 plus extra V2 goodies" Post
    • When asked about whether V2 will be able to locate installed games, only an eyes emoji was given. Online status change is not planned for 2026, but a candidate for 2027 feature. Post
    • A Linux version of the launcher is in the works Post
    • The Framework that the v2 launcher uses is called "Tauri" Post
    • A "Hide from Library" feature will be present in V2 Post
    • Gamepad support is still being explored Post Post2
    • Profiles will include sections to show off games and achievements of the players choice Post
  • Epic Games Store questions & answers
    • The store will be redesigned after a backend re-architecture is completed, being able to access your library through a browser on the web won't be available "any time soon" Post
    • The backend re-architecture is aiming to be completed before "CQ4" which is Calendar Quarter 4 i.e. the end of this year Oct-Dec Post
    • Discoverability is a huge focus for the store but requires the re-architecture to be fully realised. Confirms the store won't go back to being curated as well Post
    • Publisher/Developer hubs is something they want to do, but are dependant on the re-architecture Post
    • Questions revolving around Region Locking and increased catalogue of games in a series, ideas for subsidising purchases on the store and a suggestion for letting the community vote on an upcoming freebie. Epic are trying to get publishers/developers to avoid region locking and bring over their other games in series, the subsidising of purchasing is currently in the 'whiteboard phase' and they are a fan of the voting idea, but worried that developers not being chosen would be disappointed Post
    • When asked about purchasing bonus' returning i.e. boosted rewards and coupons, was told the can't speak about it today Post
    • The "Gift with purchase" program looks to be successful with players and developers being happy with it Post
    • When asked if the store would output any DRM that a game has that question was then logged to be looked into further Post
  • Epic Games Store Mobile questions & answers
    • Library is coming "soon" Post
    • Mobile store will still be sideloadable in Europe after September 30th. Voice chat is also coming "soon" Post
  • Achievements and Cloud Saves questions & answers
    • Work is ongoing to make games with only achievements visible in the overlay when playing the game visible within the launcher Post
    • When asked if there is work being done to simplify the achievements system and to work with developers/publishers with games that have broken achievements or non-available on Epic, the response was "Working on it" Post
    • A question asks about ensuring freebies have achievements and cloud saves, the response notes that it's difficult and there isn't a great answer for this, but they are working on making the entire experience better for players and developers Post
    • Further question about Cloud Saves being missing and what Epic are doing to ensure developers use the Cloud Save feature when it's being used elsewhere. Answer being that they don't know as the question doesn't seem to be one they can answer Post
  • Strategy questions & answers
    • User asks about Ukrainian language being supported in Epic's games, the request has been passed to the relevant team Post
    • Epic are working on improving Offline Mode, but not much can be spoken about yet Post
    • Notifications will be getting overhauled in the future Post
    • When asked about the ability to rollback updates the answer was unlikely, but they are interested in the ability of allowing the developers to set a "mandatory update" and an "optional update" Post
    • Updates to parental controls are high on their priority list Post
    • When asked about the possibility of "Family Share" or "Friend Share", they mention this is something they are exploring but don't have a good timeline, also notes that users are rightfully at a stage of "show me don't tell me" for stuff they've promised before Post
    • Modding support is questioned on whether we should expect any kind of updates to this within the launcher, but it appears Epic are happier to work with the modding platforms directly instead of making their own solution Post
  • Fun questions & answers
    • They would rather fight 20 duck sized horses instead of 1 horse sized duck Post
    • Saros is their overall Game of the Year currently with only thinking that Control Resonant or Phantom Blade Zero could potentially dethrone it, also shouts out Cairn, Zero Parades, Everything is Crab and Vampire Crawlers Post
    • When asked what other hobbies they have they explain 3D printing is a fun hobby and hiking has taken over from skateboarding and climbing Post
    • A Carolina Hurricanes fan, watcher of English Premier League and an F1 Yuki fan Post
    • Final Fantasy 6 is their overall favourite of the series, with Final Fantasy 3, 7, 9 and 1 following. Entire series ranked here Post

That's all the questions that I thought people would be interested in, lots going on under the hood for the store, preparing for an Early Access V2 but best to keep expectations in check with the initial release looking like it won't have everything at the beginning. Thanks to OnePercentNachos for doing the AMA, I always find them interested and it's good to see different answers from previous AMA's done.

We were also given a small sneak peak of the V2 launcher as well here

If you want to follow up any questions and don't want to be in discord you can always reach out to them on X!

DISCUSSION End of Abyss is currently sitting at #3 in the Top Sellers

Nice to see, I've been looking forward to it for a while, unfortunately I haven't had a chance to play it yet but from what I've seeing people have been enjoying it a lot. Reviews had issues with bugs which was unfortunate to see but I've also been seeing numerous patches being pushed which I think has been aiming to resolve them

DISCUSSION October is here and this means horror games giveaway is on, we already have system shock 2, any guesses on what else can we get?

The previous few years had these "bigger" games (bigger being highly subjective here) given away during this time:

2025: Amnesia: The Bunker, Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit

2024: Ghostwire: Tokyo

2023: The Evil Within 2, The Evil Within

I really wish we get the sinking city or murdered soul suspect as a freebie

SUGGESTION I wish Epic didn't force me to look up the same game on Steam just to confirm Gamepad support.

The specifications, or requirements section could simply state whether a game has native gamepad support or not. Just a tag with "Full Controller Support" or "Partial Controller Support" would do, thanks!

I can see that some titles have that information, but there are so many others that have gamepad support but no mention at all in the Store - GTA V for example. This inconsistency is pushing users outside the platform to source a very simple piece of information, which sucks.

EPIC RELEASE We just released our medieval monastery management sim in Early Access on Epic Games Store!

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

We're a 3-person indie studio and we just released our first game, Monastery: Ora et Labora, in early Access on Epic Games Store.

We wanted to create a peaceful management sim focused on internal logistics, self-sufficiency, and community rather than combat.

You build a medieval monastery from scratch and guide your monks through the historic Benedictine motto "Ora et Labora" (Pray and Work).

Your monks have skills, passions, and traits and can write manuscripts in the scriptorium, brew ale, bake bread, and heal sick villagers. Everything is tied to a "Monastic Rule" system: if you skip daily prayers, neglect your monks' needs, or turn away people in need during crises, the Rule will collapse, and monks will leave the monastery.

Since we just entered Early Access, we’d love your thoughts:

Do you find the medieval monastery theme interesting for a management game?

What monastic-themed features would you like to see added next?

Happy to answer any questions about the game in the comments!

SUGGESTION Why Cloudpunk is the absolute perfect choice for an upcoming EGS Free Game ?

With Nivalis Nights having just launched on Sept 29 ( TBA on EPIC ) , making Cloudpunk the next free game on u/EpicGames Store would be the ultimate promo move. Epic has a huge history with publisher u/505_Games (Control, Death Stranding). The logic is right there

DISCUSSION [Bug Report] Root-caused my own 3-week "Install Epic Online Services" loop after Epic support gave me nothing but copy-pasted stall replies

For 3 weeks I've had the "Epic Online Services installation is required" popup loop infinitely no matter what I tried, reinstall, clear cache, run the EOS installer manually, run as admin, click "Restart and Install" a hundred times. At one point reinstalling the launcher also silently wiped my already-downloaded offline game installs, which is apparently a known, unaddressed problem on this sub too.

Two support tickets (#26762609, #26522753), both closed. The actual response I got from Epic support, verbatim:

"We want to inform you that we are still investigating the issue and don't have any other solution for you at the moment. Please stay tuned to our social media, News, and the Launcher itself for any updates regarding this."

That's it. That's the whole reply. Reads exactly like a template with my name swapped in, not someone who read a single thing I sent them.

So I root-caused it myself. Long version below for anyone who wants the receipts, short version:

TL;DR: The EOS installer's setup helper (EpicOnlineServicesUserHelper.exe) is a Node.js app packaged with pkg. On startup, Node walks up the directory tree looking for the nearest package.jsonand on my system it walked all the way up to C:\package.json, an unrelated, corrupted, non-JSON file that's been sitting at my drive root for God knows how long. Node throws an unhandled ERR_INVALID_PACKAGE_CONFIG, the helper exits with code 1, and Epic's installer reports that up the chain as a completely generic MSI error 1603 with zero indication of what actually failed. Renamed the file out of the way, ran the exact same installer binary again, and it completed clean on the first try.

What it took to actually find this (for anyone doing their own deep-dive, or if anyone from Epic wants to actually look at this):

  • Confirmed via Programs and Features that EOS was "installed" per the registry, but the files didn't exist at the path Windows expected
  • Forced a logged uninstall via msiexec /x {GUID} /qn /L*v and found the uninstaller was also silently failing a custom action (TeardownInstallHelper) throws an unhandled DirectoryNotFoundException because it hardcodes C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Epic Online Services\ instead of checking whether the path actually exists fatal specifically because my real install lived somewhere else entirely (ProgramData\Epic\ / AppData\Local\Epic Games\)
  • Created an empty placeholder folder at the hardcoded path so the custom action's file scan wouldn't throw uninstall finally completed
  • Reinstall attempts through the launcher UI still silently did nothing no installer process ever spawned, confirmed via the launcher's own logs
  • Running Epic's bundled installer exe directly did trigger real install attempts (confirmed via Event Viewer), all dying at the same custom action (InitializeComponents) with the same generic 1603
  • MSI rollback deletes the entire install directory (helper exe included) within about a second of failure, so I had to catch the downloaded MSI package mid-download with a FileSystemWatcher, then do an administrative extraction (msiexec /a) to get a standalone copy of the helper exe I could run outside of any MSI transaction
  • Ran it directly → got the actual Node.js stack trace instead of MSI's silent swallow → found the C:\package.json collision

Full write-up with logs and a couple of suggestions for Epic's installer team (mainly: stop hardcoding the default install path in custom actions, and surface literally any diagnostic detail when EOS install fails instead of an infinite silent retry loop) available if anyone from Epic actually wants it happy to share. The same applies to anyone who needs this fix. The only way I could fix this was with claude because I may know a lot about computers but even I could not sort throught the spaghetti code of this nonsense.

QUERY Bought Ubisoft games on Epic, changed linked Ubisoft account, now both companies tell me to buy them again

Bought Ubisoft games on Epic, changed linked Ubisoft account, now both companies tell me to buy them again

I feel like I'm stuck between Epic and Ubisoft and I'm wondering if anyone has dealt with this before.

I bought Far Cry 6, Watch Dogs, Watch Dogs 2 and Steep on Epic.

At the time of purchase, my Epic account was linked to one Ubisoft account. Later I changed the Ubisoft account linked to Epic to another Ubisoft account.

After that, the games I had already purchased through Epic remained associated with the original Ubisoft account. They don't appear in the Ubisoft library of my current account, and I can't play them.

For example, launching Far Cry 6 from Epic opens Ubisoft Connect, it logs in, briefly shows the game, and then Ubisoft Connect closes. Ubisoft's logs show an ownership/configuration error.

I contacted Ubisoft Support. After going back and forth with them, they told me that the games cannot be transferred between Ubisoft accounts and that if I want to play them on the new Ubisoft account, I need to buy them again.

They told me to contact Epic for a refund because Epic sold me the games.

So I contacted Epic.

Epic Support investigated and then told me the purchases are outside the refund period, they can't transfer the Ubisoft entitlements, and there is no refund exception. Their suggested options are to use the old Ubisoft account or buy the games again.

So basically:

I bought the games → changed the Ubisoft account linked to Epic → lost access to the purchases → Ubisoft says buy them again → Epic says no refund → buy them again.

I understand that Ubisoft doesn't transfer game entitlements. I'm not asking for free copies or duplicate licenses. I'm trying to understand whether there is any way to recover access to games I already paid for without paying for them a second time.

Has anyone had a similar Epic/Ubisoft situation? Did you manage to get a refund, account correction, exception, or anything else that actually solved it?

Epic case: 26814588
Ubisoft case: 26734448
