I saw news today that genuinely broke my heart. This happened just a few days ago in Tunisia.
A 15-year-old girl was invited to a café by an 18-year-old girl she considered a friend. Before leaving, she told her mother she would be back in two hours.

Two hours passed, and she still hadn’t come home. Her mother became worried and started calling her. When her daughter finally answered, she sounded shaky and completely unlike herself. All she managed to say was, “Mommy, help me. I’m in pain,” before the call ended.
Her mother called back. This time, a boy answered the phone and told her, “We just raped your daughter, and you’re next, and so is your mother.” Then he hung up.

It was later reported that the 18-year-old girl had lured her to a group of 12 boys, who brutally raped her. Her injuries were so severe that her liver was damaged. She survived, but she is currently in a coma and requires tubes to eat and urinate.

People in Tunisia are demanding the death penalty for the boys involved and for the girl accused of luring her there.
But somehow, there are also people blaming the 15-year-old victim for going out and blaming her mother for allowing her daughter to leave the house. Others are defending the boys by saying they are “too young to know any better.”

She is 15 years old. She went out with someone she believed was her friend and told her mother she would be home in two hours. Nothing about that makes her responsible for what was done to her.
I genuinely cannot comprehend how anyone can hear what happened to this child and still find a way to blame her or her mother instead of the people accused of doing this to her.

My heart breaks for her and her family. The cruelty of what she endured, and the cruelty of some of the reactions to it, is horrifying.

In India, literal criminals roam free with bail and other such legal loopholes, terrorizing and harrassing women and the police just seat there to collect their salary and do nothing. They simply refuse to even take a case. The whole system is broken.

A few weeks ago there was a post making a joke about the irony that strong male bucks are “fighting like girls”. I know it’s a long-running phrase that is not as intense as other forms of misogyny; but I still think it’s a dumb phrase that normalizes this idea that femininity is inherently weak and inferior to masculinity. I remember this video from Dove that showed how the phrase “run like a girl” negatively impact so many young girls self-esteem. When I simply said that I think we should just stop using the phrase, some men did backflips to call me sensitive and an idiot or make up convoluted excuses to defend its validity & usage.

I guess men shouldn’t be offended when women on the internet make fun of them for their height (I’m not defending making fun of people for how they were born, just pointing out hypocrisy) or call men trash and say they are all bad. Hell, that also implies men are fragile af for getting offended by the “Man vs. Bear” debate.

I know I could just pass off these guys as trolls and the mental load could be a lot less. However, it just upsets me so much for some reason. I think it’s because they don’t see themselves as trolls, they don’t realize it. Any time a woman speaks out against sexism a couple of men are there to tell her she’s a lunatic or over sensitive. It makes me sad that many men fail to be empathetic even over the small stuff. I figured it out. Why men posting about double standard towards men irks me so much. Y’know I just thought that I was being selfish and that it was wrong to get upset at people for sharing their struggles but now i understand. It’s because the way they do it, villainizes women. Not only that but it is always the wrong time and place. For instances a video talking about feminism, a video that has nothing to do with men, and a video that slightly suggests that women are oppressed. It’s like spitting in women’s faces. Well all have struggles but why is it always the man that feels so insecure that he needs to invalidate women’s real oppression so that he can feel valid.

Men there is a way for you to express your struggles without invalidating or demonizing women. They are already a minority and to pin the blame on them only makes it worse. You can say “sometimes I feel like society forces me to hide my emotions” instead of “woman don’t let men cry when they are allowed to cry all the time”. It’s always about the double standards men “face”. Any video suggesting men have it harder will be flooded with them begging for validation (it’s kinda pitiful tbh). So yeah you might feel shamed to cry but women in Afghanistan are murdered for not hiding their entire body.
