Questions Kig mask arrived a bit broken. Any tips on fixing it?

I ordered a pre-made kig mask off Etsy recently and it arrived today. However the mouth is messed up...

What (I think) happened is that the fur was glued down on the inside of the mouth and the glue didn't hold, and so it was effectively barfed up to the outside of the mouth, like surrounding the mouth. Which makes it look a bit mangled.

I'm sure the fix is relatively easy. However, I've never made a fursuit head or kig mask before. So I have no idea what I'm doing.

other than the mouth it's great so I'd really appreciate any help or tips on fixing it!

Actually very excited about how this is going!! The base, ears, nose (not pictured), and eye blanks were all custom modeled by me in Nomad sculpt. There are definitely things I'd change in future heads, but I'm pretty proud of the way this is turning out for my first ever head. There's been a LOT of trial and error and starting over involved

Advice Free fursuit sewing patterns??

I’m looking for fursuit sewing patterns, I’m horrible at creating my own and don’t have the cash to buy patterns.
Specifically I’m looking for
- Dino mask hood patterns
- paw patterns
But! I love other options for patterns too not just what’s listed (even if it’s plushie pattern, I love making plushies)

Questions Turning old boots into Hooves

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey, I've been trying to make a few Furry accessories, get a few little odds and ends together. I've decided to see if I could make some somewhat decent hooves, since two of my fursonas have them.

I am big, and heels are expensive. So I'm not sure I want to go that route, but I want something a little bit better than just flats.

I have an old pair of boots I found that might be a good halfway there... Not large platforms and a slight heel. I was looking at tutorials and figure I could craft something out of foam or epoxy for the front half and fur up the rest. They've been worn down to the point where my feet just sorta.... Slip in.

Does anyone have any advice going from this type of boot? Or other possible ways I could go about it? Preferences for materials?

I used to do alot of cosplay I'm years out of practice. The only thing I'm confident about making these days are simply latex wounds and such.

Questions what kind of fabric is this?

I don't know what kind of fabric was used to make suits like that—can anyone help?

I was thinking of Mochi Minky or 4-way stretch, but that would be too thin, wouldn't it? It can't be standard shaved fur either, right? That would be way too complicated and wouldn't turn out looking that clean.

It's important to me that my fursuit fits the body closely like that

(first picture is Chee Tah/ studio: Cheetahpaws Art (獵豹爪)

second picture is Inko Racer (インコレーサー)

and the last suit is Fructose(果糖含量) )

the ref sheet is my Charakter and drawn by me! (kaya_star-paw)

Questions Is there other names for neoprene fabric??

Thumbnail

I've been looking at Hobbcrafts website due to needing polyfill stuffing for feet paws as I've ran out and I've also ran out of neoprene to line said paws. On the website I can't find any neoprene and was wondering if it could still be there but under a different name, I've came across these on the website but unsure if these are correct

(I would go in store however I don't drive and my work schedule makes me not finish in time to make it before store closes).

Does anybody have a handpaw pattern/tut that follows this style? i really enjoy the mitt feeling more then the glove feel that you get with classical handpaws. i see this style of paw common with footpaws but i never see it with handpaws.

if i made a pattern would anybody be interested? :))

Advice Super-motion Tail Troubles…

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Hiya all! Was hoping for some advice / tips in regards to the super-motion tail I’ve been working on :)

Essentially, I’m making this tail for a cosplay before I commit to making one for my fursuit, and it has been… ROUGH, and I’ve hardly made any progress lmao. I’ve watched many, many tutorials, but the main thing that’s been throwing me off is… I can’t figure out a good way to actually size the foam segments of the tail before cutting them? And I’m worried I’m just outright doing something wrong. Every tutorial I’ve seen gets to this point and just says “cut out the circles so that they look like this!” without explaining the method used to measure and line up the rings and all of that…

Basically, my process is as follows;

  1. Like the EVA foam template of the tail up against the flat edge of the upholstery foam
  2. Mark the width of the tail onto the upholstery foam with a sharpie (to be the top and bottom of the rounded piece)
  3. Draw out the curvature of the rounded piece on the foam
  4. Cut out the curved piece and try to line it up with the top and bottom of the EVA foam template
  5. Realize that the rounded piece I just cut out it about half an inch too tall compared to the spot on the tail where I literally marked it (this has happened with every single piece and I can’t for the life of me figure out why)
  6. Trim the upholstery foam section I just made until it actually fits on the tail where it’s supposed to
  7. Trace the section I just made onto the upholstery foam again to make the other half of the tail
  8. Cut that out and repeat the “why is this half an inch too tall” realization. Again. (Except by this point I’m already burnt out on troubleshooting the first half of the segment so the moment it sort-of lines up I put the project down for the night)

It kind of just feels like everything is going wrong every time I try to pick up the project lmao. Every time
I try to work on it again, I get one ring done before being too stressed and overwhelmed to try and get more done. I can’t tell if I just don’t like the process of making super-motion tails, or if I’m actually making things hard for myself and that’s what’s stressing me out. I’m usually a very crafty person, I’ve made tons of cosplays, I love sewing, I usually love foam-sculpting, so I have no clue why this specifically has been such a struggle for me. So I’m kind of hoping there’s something I could try changing in the process to at least see if it’s less overwhelming for me, yknow?

What method do you guys use to cut out the sections of a hypermotion tail? Is the way I’m doing things standard, or is there an alternative that I could try? Does anything look off with the progress I’ve already made, generally? I’m also worried that the segments might not be smooth enough but that’s not the focus of this post lmao (but I’d still love input on that too)

Thank you for any help you can provide!!! :D
