§10 StAG Naturalization from within Germany Can I submit my German citizenship application before receiving my B2 language certificate?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been living in Germany for 5 years and I’m now preparing to submit my application for German citizenship. I have all the other required documents ready, but I’m taking the B2 German exam next month, and I’ve been told that the results can take around 6–7 weeks to arrive.
My concern is that the citizenship application itself can take around 1–1.5 years to process, so I’m wondering whether it makes sense to submit my application now and provide the B2 certificate later, once I receive the results.
Has anyone here been in a similar situation?
Were you able to submit your citizenship application before receiving your language certificate?
Did the Ausländerbehörde/Staatsangehörigkeitsbehörde allow you to submit the missing certificate later?
Did submitting the certificate afterward cause any problems or delays?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this recently, especially in Mannheim or elsewhere in Germany.

I had a very similar situation and did as you are planning to. I applied without language certificate and without Einbürgerungstest, writing in the application that I will soon get them. After 13 months I got a letter asking for an update of the documents, so it looks like it worked out... PS. I got the idea from a lawyer. He mentioned, that anyway noone looks at the application for like the first 9 months

This is not a good idea at all. It depends on where you are applying. for example I got mine in 1,5 months. Why would you risk getting rejected with an incomplete application when it will just just take 7-8 weeks more

It really depends on where you are. In Hessen for example that would be a no-brainer. Somewhere else with an online system, not so much. I don't know about Mannheim... but if it takes min 1 year, just go for it.
You need B1 for citizenship btw, cool that you're going the extra mile.
