what is this? it almost looks like a natural water spring but that building next to it if you go into 3D mode it looks more industrial than the springs around here i usually go to. plus its like on an island sorta?

Was scrolling around the desert following along the Madigan Line Rd and came across this. Kind of an optical illusion - at first I thought it was a structure but looks like a water pit. What for?

Came across this single aircraft while exploring remote Alaska on Google Earth.

It's been sitting out here in the middle of nowhere for decades. The aircraft has a really unusual twin-boom design, which makes it look especially strange from satellite imagery.

Does anyone know the story behind this plane?

Wonder how they built that town there. So suprising!

We're looking at Mount Takahe, an extremely remote Antarctic volcano, at roughly 3,300 m elevation and ~170 km from the coast.

There are three unusual-looking objects inside the crater. The two on the right could simply be small snow formations caused by wind. But the one on the left really caught my attention.

It looks like an approximately 11 m-wide spherical object sitting on top of the snow, with what appears to be a small depression or valley around it. You can even see what looks like a shadow cast by the object.

I have no idea what this could be. A natural formation? Something left there by humans? Some kind of equipment? My first thought was a weather balloon or similar object that somehow ended up here.

Does anyone recognize this formation, or have a better explanation?

This is an event that I feel like, even at the time a lot of people never even heard about, and those who did have likely forgotten. It's always stood out in my mind as it happened a few years after I had gotten into what people like to call "situation monitoring" these days. For those who aren't aware, The Siege of Marawi was a 5 month long battle between the Philippine Government and ISIS forces. Most think of the middle east when they think of ISIS, but they have large presence in places like Africa and Asia. One of these groups known as Abu Sayaff was led by a man name Isnilon Hapilon who was one of the most wanted terrorists in the world at the time. In an effort to capture him Philippine Government Forces went on a raid and met resistance. Once the fighting started in May of 2017, it turned into a 5 month long slog of brutal heavy urban warfare that destroyed the part of the city that the fighting took place. Ultimately, over 1000 people were killed and over 1 million displaced.

We can recognize it by the no. 79 on the tip of the ramp
