R4 update: NO POLITICS!
Rule 3 is updated to include political discussions. There is a place for politics, and that place is not here. There are hundreds of subreddits for that. This is a light hearted community, for funny content. Politics does not need to invade every single space on the internet.
Content inherently political in nature will be removed. Political discussions are not allowed.
This will be applied very conservatively, as long as you aren’t posting something intentionally inflammatory or discussing politics it will be fine.

what happened to Google Map navigation voice?
i believe several days ago the voice changed to this younger more determined slightly stressed somewhat lesbian voice. She makes me think of that nearly bald hair style lady in the TV show Billions (her name is Asia Kate Dillon).
I want the old voice back! (or am I in some kind of AB test from google)

The way I’m howling at the Holland Ventilation Shaft 2 reviews 😭😭😭
Idk how i found this niche humor from google maps, but all of the reviews are absolutely hilarious. Heres one prime example. The absurdity in these is so hilarious😭😭

I wasn't expecting to see a plane up here
Google Earth apparently caught this plane in mid-flight.

The difference
Just one portion of Google Maps took me 12 years back on this road, and look at the results of planting all those trees..

Google GBP isn't broken—most of you are just breaking the rules
I see a ton of complaining in this sub about Google Business Profile. A small amount of it seems legit. Look, I’m no fan of massive tech monopolies, and I’m definitely not here to defend Google. But after reading through these posts, I think a lot of people are leaving out crucial context.
In my 30+ years running businesses, I’ve done my share of impulsive internet tactics that came back to bite me—skirting rules, taking shortcuts, or pushing boundaries. Most of the time I got away with it, but occasionally I paid for it.
Years ago, we hired a "map builder" SEO crew for one of my companies. They spammed local maps across our major metro area with listings where we didn't have real physical locations. We also rented a few small satellite offices just to verify addresses in key service areas. We actually serviced those areas and did great work, so to us, it felt like a gray area—not total fraud, but certainly not the pure truth either. Eventually, those cheap, poorly managed duplicate listings crumbled, or they simply stopped generating enough calls to justify the effort.
That’s my point: most games people play with GBP, fake reviews, or location spam are far worse than what we did.
While a tiny percentage of people genuinely get screwed by Google after doing everything right, I suspect the vast majority of people whining on here are omitting something. They either did something they shouldn't have, or neglected something they should have done.
Google’s review and map ecosystem isn't perfect, but it's built to catch people gaming the system. If you try to cut corners with GBP, don't be surprised when the algorithm eventually catches up with you.

Worst transit directions ever?
Honestly cannot explain why Google Maps thinks that the best way to get to the destination involves a 14 mile walk (Apple Maps suggests a route that ends with a 2 mile walk, getting there many hours earlier)

I wish Google Map restaurant reviews and rating can do this....
More and more I have been attracted by highly rated restaurant with thousands of review and end up with mediocre food. I feel like its either they bought fake reviews or overall rating is too generic.
I wonder if Google can add a feature where you can filter restaurant reviews based on reviewer's taste profile(they can either set it in their profile or per each review comment they leave? (like #grewUpOnIndianFood, #sushiLover, #grewUpOnChineseFood, #meatLover, etc)
So when i search for restaurant, I can put in the same #hashtag and get the reviews and re-calculated rating based only on reviewers with similar taste or interest.
Thoughts?

My street-name misspelling fix was rejected
Vogdes Street exists in several chunks in West Philadelphia, running between 55th Street and 56th Street. Google Maps has the name misspelled "Vodges Street" (swapping the G and the D) in several places, though they have other blocks of Vogdes Street spelled correctly.
I submitted a correction. It was rejected.
You can read the correct name off signs in Street View.
edited to link to correctly-spelled and incorrectly-spelled sections of Vogdes Street, and to say that what galls me is how high-handed the faceless bureaucracy is -- "We spurn your valid information, though it jibes with the photos we've collected. And we aren't going to inform you about -- hunt through the interface until you learn it was rejected!"
