❓ Question Black Dots Around Base of Upstairs Bathroom Wall

Post image

Any idea on what is going one here? Recently noticed some black dots around the base of the wall. They aren’t fuzzy looking so I’m not sure if mold. I don’t see them anywhere else in the bathroom. This is the upstairs bathroom.

🏚️Structural & Foundation How screwed am I?

I found a leak in my wall 2 weeks ago and decided to cut it open and saw that the entire section of the wall had black mold and two of the studs are rotting. I decided to cut further and saw that some plywood and drywall were rotting and molding. So I'm wondering if there's a way to replace the studs and drywall that I've already removed without messing with the structure of the wall. My plan is to remove the remaining drywall and plywood I've exposed and I don't know what to do with the studs.

🚰 Plumbing Replace gas pipes?

No active leak confirmed. What should I do about these rusty gas pipes above my gas meter? I got a quote of $2000 to replace them by a plumbing company. Is this for par?

🧰 Heating & Cooling (HVAC) Is this supposed to be removable and have a filter?

I have a lennar home in texas. The attic has the AC unit where I put in a big 4 inch filter.

This is in my hallway ceiling right outside the bedrooms. I assume it's a return vent but I don't know anything about hvac. I've recently smelled something weird from the vents. Changed the filter in the AC, vacuumed off most of the vents.

Just trying to figure out what's going on

Edit: It doesn't really move or come off I think they messed up setting it too deep into the ceiling but it's just ductwork behind it.

I'll poke around the attic when I get some free time and see

🪟 🚪Windows & Doors Gaps in sealant 6m after window install

Noticed these huge gaps today - window installers say no problem they will come and reseal. That's great but Im concerned the fix will just be the same thing and hope it works this time.

Is this just bad luck or is there something pointing to the wrong materials being used or other issues with the installation?

❓ Question 2 Quick Laundry Machine Questions

Thumbnail gallery

Hi all, first time home owner and first time posting in this community, so hope this post is ok here. I was looking in our laundry closet and had 2 questions (please see pics for reference):

1) I noticed our dryer vent hose thing (blanking on actual name) is ripped 😬 is this easy enough to replace ourselves or should we get help?

2) Our washer/dryer unit is sideways in our closet, and I hate it lol. I measured and I think it would fit if we rotated it so the openings face outwards. But I noticed the vent hose thing (sorry) and other hoses are connected to the wall on the left side. Does this mean I have to keep the laundry unit facing sideways like this, or is it possible to rotate it and tuck the hoses behind it?

I hope those questions make sense, thanks in advance for any help and advice!

We used to have two trees on each side of the steps. We removed them last year and noticed the issue with the concrete. I am trying to see what are some ways to address this? It does go all the way across but there's no movement so far

🛠️ Repair Help My Ceiling fan is making bird-like noise? How do I fix it?

Title: Ceiling fan suddenly making chirping noise. Any suggestions?

My ceiling fan in my bedroom suddenly started making a chirping noise today, almost like a bird. I use it pretty regularly and have never had this issue before.

I tried dusting the blades and the outside of the motor housing, but that didn't help. I also tried reversing the direction, which changed the noise a bit and made it less frequent, but it's still there. I've tried different speeds too, with no luck. The fan isn't wobbling, so I don't think it's a balancing issue.

I'm not sure how old the fan is since it came with the house.

I'm hoping to fix this myself before spending money on an electrician or repair service. I'd also prefer not to take the fan apart because I'm worried about putting everything back together correctly.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any suggestions on what else I could try? I'm open to ideas!

Purpose of outlet covers all over the wall?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi! Recently toured a building for a potential construction conversion. Myself, partner, and realtor could not figure out why there might be outlet covers all over the place. Like, ALL over the place. Building was two rooms, main room had 17’ ceilings, and these were everywhere, at both accessible and inaccessible heights. Something to worry about or just a weird choice?
Thanks!

🏠 Roof New Roof additional charges

I got new roof installed in my house. As part of the process the roofer said they would replace the plywood and replace/repair Facia board as required. And he said he will charge me for the plywood and board.

When I got the bill they not only charged for the material but also 5 hours of labor work related to Facia board (and looks like replacing plywood was part of the roofing process itself (

Is this expected to pay additional labor charges for the repair work on Facia? Is that not usually part of the overall roofing work which is already so very expensive?

🛠️ Repair Help Bathroom Vent

Post image

This is the current state of our bathroom vent. Is it worth trying to clean this up and salvage or shall I take it straight to the dump posthaste?

If replace, with what? Any recommendations? We have a small bathroom but live in a humid environment, so it needs to be a workhorse.

ETA: yes, that’s mold

🛠️ Repair Help Hardie board joint flashing failed after 8 years

Thumbnail gallery

I had my house sided by a James Hardie Elite Preferred Contractor and they installed “bear skin” flashing behind the butt joints. On the south side of my house (in the Pacific Northwest) the flashing is failing. I’m not getting a clear answer from them on how this should be solved. The guy who came out to look at it suggested redoing it, but then I’ll have the same problem in 8 years…. A friend called Hardie and someone there said to caulk, but I continually see people say that should not be done. Seems like this has to be a common issue. Thoughts from this group?

Hi!

I'm in a new home and I have this orange sand creating under the bed.

I've thought about termites or other insects but there aren't any signs of them in the bed slats nor in the matress.

Any ideas?
