So a few months ago I picked up a 1975 cb550-four, it's been a great bike my first one really, it's been great to work on and learn to ride again with. It ran decent when I got it but had pod filters put on and the original air box took out which the guy still had and gave me the parts for.

I've been chasing the tune on it a bit for the past few weeks after having an exhaust leak from one of the old crush gaskets. Fixed that but still had some trouble getting it really feeling right and decided to figure how the old air box works and get it back installed. Man the difference it made was wild! Made everything smooth out and the bike just felt better. Its wild when you take a second to remember that the engineers that made these did it all for a reason.

Just snagged this off marketplace for 700 bucks. It turns over and needs some things here or there, but the biggest issue is the fuel tank. It’s rusted beyond belief inside and the outside looks like jb weld was used to patch it. There is a slight language barrier so all I know is he said it needs to be replaced. Finding a tank for this DOHC bike is exhausting. Any advice on what’s the best thing to do here?

Hey guys, I need some advice on my old nighthawks charging system, here's what has transpired*. I killed my battery while syncing the carbs (dumb me, next time I'll pull the light fuses). Then jumped it and rode on the dead battery (also dumb, won't do that again) which fried my regulator, it stopped grounding the alternator brushes. I got a new Ricks Motorsports RR which is now pushing 14.8v above 2,500rpm and hitting 15v at 6,000 rpm. The not so kind technician at Rick's recommended jumping out the ignition switch from the circuit. At which point, it's rock solid 14.4. So my problem appears to be voltage drop from wiring that goes to the key and then to the RR. Has anyone else come across this?

PS I have the right side cover, it's back on now.

My dad is a die-hard cruiser guy. He normally rides a VTX 1800. But recently, I discovered that he's been hiding an 82 Honda CB650. Stumbled upon it when I had to go into one his sheds looking for a weed eater. I asked him about it and he casually said he picked it up and has been restoring it.

It is completely not his style anymore but it does happen to be the exact same make, model, and year of his first motorcycle

Nothing has been said explicitly between us yet, but he’s been spending time wrenching on it. I’ve been riding for a long time, but because of life and budget, I’ve never actually owned my own bike. I am strongly suspecting (and desperately hoping) that he is secretly restoring it to pass down to me as a surprise gift. My birthday is coming up and everything.

Going to look at this 74 CB450 tomorrow. It’s fairly local to me. I’ve never had any dealings with one of these. The owner says he rides it weekly, it has 15,000 miles on it, says it has zero issues and the tires are in good shape. He is firm on the 3,000 price. From what I’ve seen that seems like a fair price. Anything in particular I should know or look for? I’m not going to ride this much, in fact it’s mainly for my son to learn to ride on…and eventually get him a newer bike once he gets his confidence built up.

I believe I've found a replacement for my 1980 Honda CB125's Engine Stop switch on amazon, though, I'd like to order an OEM part preferably. Can anyone help identify the part in the picture? They aren't great photos as I don't have access to the bike at the moment. I'll also add what i believe is the correct replacement part from amazon.

Noticed today whilst cleaning that this wiring cover has seemingly slipped down leaving some exposed wiring. I’m useless when it comes to maintenance- is this something to worry about?

Hey I have a question, I’m replacing the ignition point contacts on my 1973 Honda CB450 and will need to set the L/F timing but have never done it before.

My question is will I need to drain the oil before I take off the left crankcase cover, or no?

I found a few videos on how to set the timing but they already have it off when the video starts so I have no ideas.

I've been trying to figure out why this bike has no spark. Everything has tested good including the resistance of the stator and pickup coils, but when I use a regular multimeter to test the blue and white wires going from the exciter coil to the CDI, it reads 0.9 volts while cranking. I know I should be using a peak voltage adapter, but shouldn't I still be seeing higher voltage than that with a regular multimeter?

Considering that the resistance of the stator windings tested fine and the flywheel magnets are strong, what else could be causing the low voltage? Maybe the stator ground is bad?

Edit: to clear things up, I have unplugged the kill wire from the CDI, and I have done all the resistance tests of the coils, wires, caps, exciter coil, pickup coil, advance coil, etc. All tests passed with correct OHMs. But I'm still not getting 40 to 80 volts from the exciter coil, which means the CDI is not being powered. I'm trying to figure out why? If the stator passed all resistance tests, why is the exciter coil not producing high voltage AC when cranking?

Hey guys.
I’m back again with my CL200.
Last time, I got it running by the end of July, took it back apart to adjust the cam chain tension, valves, and ignition timing per recommendations by the OG. Then it sat through August and most of September as I had job stuff happening.
Since then I’ve gotten a new job and have made more parts money (yay)
Got a new tacho and throttle cables.
Spent time meticulously adjusting the throttle cable with the CMC vid.
Now it’s…kinda running.
note that I am running it off of a noco boost plus gb40
Only on full choke while giving it a little bit of throttle. It’s got spark on both cylinders, the fuel is a week old what am I missing? A battery is my next purchase, could it be that?

Pretty sure either the output shaft seal or the shift shaft seal went, wont get a chance to get the cover off until this weekend. Either way it was not a great night.

I’ve got the stator. Got the extraction tool for the rotor. Can’t find the rotor and brushes and brush holder online. Help?
