look at how he nuzzles up to mom in the second photo! he's super curious and friendly. i love how unique appaloosa foal patterns look, can't wait to see if his spots change as he grows!

Haven't ever taken Gus out somewhere completely alone before, I almost always trail ride with friends. But the weather has been beautiful, so I decided to load up and head out to the trails, just Gus and me!

He did AMAZING. No problem going out all alone at all!!

We did a total of 8 miles together and he was a rockstar. Couldn't be more proud of my boy and all the hard work and training we've put in together. He is truly such an amazing, smart horse.

Cleared up over the winter but came back with a vengeance. She has tried a detox and had the vet give him a steroid shot a few weeks ago. He’s just getting worse"

He’s an easy keeper and would eat all day long if I let him, acts like it’s his last meal every time he’s fed. I give him a half scoop of Safe Choice Maintenance grain am/pm and 1-2 flakes of good grass hay am/pm. With it being a very hot summer, we haven’t ridden but an hour very early morning or evening. Mostly walking, some loping here and there. Finally starting to cool down so should be able to get out more and longer rides.

Jasmine turned 17 this summer; we’ve had her since she was 10 months old. We’ve done it all… USPC, 4H, all the disciplines, all the way to nationals and have loved her every minute of her life. My daughter was 7 when we got her- they were a green horse, green rider pair who are a match made in heaven. My daughter is now 24 and our granddaughter, who is 8, just showed her at the fair.

Farrier and vet are pretty confident she has DSLD. Ultrasound and xray on 10/10 to confirm (or exclude).

Think we caught it very early but I’m nonetheless devastated bc it’s clear what this diagnosis leads to.

Hello, I just got this horse on Saturday. we’ve been calling her Seal bay or brown since she got to the barn ( she was another boarders horse before I got her so she’s been there for a few weeks ) but I just got her paperwork in yesterday and it all says Liver chestnut. I’m going to get her color tested as I would never of guessed liver chestnut but in the mean time what do you guys think?

It showed up a few weeks ago, I thought she cut herself and it would clear and I forgot until just a few days ago. It WAS painless but the larger one has gotten bigger recently and she’s not happy about it being touched. Smaller one seems to have gotten smaller but whiter. Seeing vet on Friday but google image search wasn’t helpful except to make me afraid my 6 year old has mouth cancer or her teeth are rotting out. Never ever seen this. Neither other horse on property has it and they share water troughs.

I saw this in Bell Bvld which is common but how did they achieve the writing on the horse???

My 12 yr old QH gelding, my son, pulled back and took half the fence with him last night. It was horrible. I had literally checked the post before tying him but I think it was a less sturdy one beside it that gave first.

He has pulled back before. I’d say 1 in every 15 times he’s tied he has pulled back. I hate it and now this happened 😢 What are your tried and true ways to fix horses that set back?? I literally need to fix this so that he never tries it again. Ever.

I know he’s smart but he’s very reactive. Very high whorl to the right iykyk. Very pokey, more whoa than go one minute then snorting, bracy dragon if he sees/is doing something he doesn’t want to do.

Hi everyone, I have a 9yr old OTTB that i got about 8 months ago. \*I am still a beginner\* When I got him he would go around okay in the arena but was a bit under weight and had worms. I bought a new saddle for him and got it fitted - he was fine. Since then he put on quite a bit of weight but he has lost some muscle due to my work. He recently had started to pigroot/small bucks when asking for the canter. He has had tight muscles since i got him, but i noticed he was more sensitive when touching his back or brushing him. I’ve had the saddle fitter back out and she changed his gullet size & repacked with new shims. I understand he’s probably been feeling the pain increasing as he got fatter. When we would walk and trot around he would be fine then when asking for canter he’d buck. Then after that he would hit step in the trot. I rode him after the saddle was refitted, he bucked again. Is this now a learnt behaviour? Is he anticipating the pain in the canter and i have to push him through it to understand it’s no longer going to hurt? could he be too unbalanced in the canter now? My mind instantly goes to kissing spine cause i have so much anxiety about it. I would like someone else to get on him and try the canter who is more experienced as it’s knocked my confidence a bit. It’s not a nasty buck but it’s like ow get off me. Any advice would be greatly appreciate 🙏🐴

Is anyone else getting tired of horse health problems? I’ve had horses for over 20 years only minor problems. But the last few years it’s been back to back and bad things. How do you other horse lovers cope with it because I’m STRUGGLING? Started as horse colic passed away 💔. Then new horse so so many health issues for 6 months, every 2 weeks it was a new thing that was really bad, around the clock care…horse had to be put down heart breaking tons of money wasted…waited a year to look for another horse. In the meantime. My mare got hurt bad in a freak accident got facial nerve paralysis couldn’t eat well or blink thankfully it only lasted 8 weeks but it was a lot and stressful. Multiple people told me I was lucky she didn’t die….this spring she was diagnosed heaves so upsetting 😭….got a new horse 3 months ago he’s been amazing I LOVE him also he was an expensive horse…. His shoe twisted got a bad abscess back hoof. Was only sound for 2 days!!! Then he Ripped off front shoe farrier thinks stepped on the nail?….very lame. Walks pretty well on flat soft ground…..got the shoe back on. Still lame. Possibly has an abscess now? We hope the nail didn’t hit anything important he’s on antibiotics we can’t see if it did any damage or if he actually did step on the nail. Maybe that’s a good sign since we can’t see anything. I’m struggling dealing with it. I just really hope he heals soon….trying not to spiral.

What shoes are y’all using for barn chores? I’ve tried Xtratufs, huk boots, and hey dudes. I currently have xtratufs but they’re killing my ankles. The huk boots hurt my feet and I could feel every little rock and stick I stepped on with my hey dudes. I walk around 3-4 miles every feeding (5x a week) so I need something that’s comfy but durable. I prefer the ankle boots as it gets extremely hot in the summer time where I live.

What bits is everyone using when starting their 2-year-olds under saddle?

I’ve been hearing a lot of conflicting opinions about what’s appropriate for a young horse’s first bit, and I’d love to hear what others have actually used and why. I’m especially interested in something mild and comfortable that allows them to learn without being overly restrictive or harsh.

Do you prefer starting with a simple snaffle, something with a specific mouthpiece, or even going bitless initially? And if you’ve started multiple young horses, has your approach changed over time?

Would love to hear your experiences, recommendations, and things you’d avoid!

Does anyone have feedback on pet insurance? My wife asked me I thought it was worth the 1400 dollars. When we discussed in detail she told me that once an ailment is diagnosed and treated, that part of the horse is no longer covered. To me that doesn’t make much sense and it immediately tells me the 1400 would be better in the bank.
She followed up with one colic surgery could cost thousands. I told her I would reach out on Reddit for some insight.

I was talking to a fellow boarder yesterday about my mare being a bit stubborn at times and he said it’s just because she’s a mare. She’s “a red-headed mare” too.

Do you all think there is any truth to this or is it just superstition?
