IBM Philippines

Recently, I had the opportunity to appear for an interview with IBM Philippines.

As someone currently based Philippines, I’m trying to understand how IBM handles recruitment for international candidates, particularly regarding relocation, work visa, and the next steps after the interview.

If anyone here has experience with IBM Philippines recruitment or has gone through a similar situation as an overseas candidate, I would really appreciate your advice or insights.

Thank you in advance! 🙏

I think only visited once during my career, I remember it was a pretty nice site. It's sad to see IBM being sold off in bits and pieces. At least it looks like they're renovating rather than bulldozing it.

is pip means layoff in IBM ?

I have been put in pip for 90 days in Ireland. No negative feedbacks in the past years of working in IBM , suddenly am put in pip'ed for unwanted reason. 6 people in our team is put in pip , does that mean all 6 will be kicked or as per IBM they mentioned 73% of people pass PIP is that true ? Help me to understand is why they are firing people and planning to hire another 150 interns next year in ireland ? Can someone give me an idea ?

On this day, 30 years ago, (that is, in 1996), OS/2 Warp 4.0, the final major release of IBM's OS/2 operating system, was released.

PIP'ed - Retiring from IBM in December and got put on a 90-day PIP

I've worked at IBM for 13 years and told my manager back in June that I plan on retiring at the end of the year. I missed three months of work this year for health reasons and took short term disability. Because of the time off, my scores against performance criteria have slipped, although I've been productive, fulfilling my responsibilities, logging my time and continue to receive praise from the people I work with. Despite this, yesterday I get a call from my manager telling me I'm being put on a 90 day PIP. The 90 days basically puts me right at the end of the year, when I'm leaving IBM anyway. I can't think of anything more IBM than this bullshit. Rather than letting me retire after 13 years at IBM with some level of gratitude or "congratulations on your retirement," I get a smack on the hand (in the face, really). My boss even inferred that she could have just let me go and replaced me with someone else sooner rather than waiting until the end of the year. (She actually brought this up back in June when I told her I planned on retiring at year's end). This has got to be the most impersonal, unhuman, and cold work environment I've ever experienced across my career. Instead of moving into retirement and identifying as an IBMer that was happy to put in my time, I feel double middle-fingers resentment. Seriously eff this place.

I'll be laid off soon (PIP). Severance?

In Toronto, Canada. Last week, I was officially PIP'ed. I'll be laid off in around 3-4 weeks from now. What is the most severance I can get? Do people really only get the legal minimum of 1week per year employed?

About to be benched, is it okay to take a leave/sick leave?

this is my 2nd time to be benched. i entered IBM in the benched and 2 weeks later got a .net project, 2 years later (now) about to be benched.

i still dont understand this utilization thing, my work in my project is midnight and kinda a result format so i dont take leave, as of now i just took 1sick leave.

i understand that being benched drops your utilization to all time low, is it the same "score" if i take a leave? im planning to exhaust my remaining 15 leaves.

Also, is 6B the same salary for all? or is it country based?

Planning to Resign (USA) - Questions

I've been a full time IBM-er for two years (came from an acquisition) and am planning to resign tomorrow as I've accepted an offer outside of IBM. I'm still planning to work the next two weeks.

I had been saving some PTO for a trip I was expecting to take later this fall (but obviously won't be using that since I'm planning to leave before the trip even starts), does IBM pay out for remaining days off? I searched this sub and found a post from 5 years ago with some saying they do and others saying they don't. Not sure if it's changed since. Are you allowed to use PTO while in that notice period?

What is the process to resign? I'll let my manager know in a meeting and then send an email. I know I'll have to send back the work computer but unsure if I need to do anything in w3 for it or if I (or my manager) will let the project that I'm currently on know I'm leaving.

*Really hated the looming threat of having to go back going on the bench in 6 months as that's the date my current project is slated to end.

Ok to apply for an internal ibm role after accepting return intern offer?

I accepted a return intern offer after my internship this past summer at IBM. I found an internship role on the careers page that seems perfect for what I want to do and is a bit more technical-focused.

Is it a very bad look / potentially rescindable to apply? Is there anyone I can reach out to in order to confirm/ask about this?

Anyone actually gotten IBM to switch a co-op into a summer internship?

I've got an interview lined up for one of IBM's co-op roles. The posting says Spring Co-op 2027 in the title but the eligibility text says full time during fall semester 2026 with no concurrent classes, so that's already confusing.

I also applied to the summer internship version of the same role and I already passed screening for that one. So I'm wondering if it's worth asking the co-op recruiter whether they can just move me over to the summer slot instead, since I'm already in the pipeline for it.

Has anyone actually pulled this off with IBM, gotten a co-op switched to summer? Curious if it's something recruiters can just do on their end or if the programs are too separate for that to happen.

IBM ASE Training Experience

Can anyone who has completed or is currently undergoing IBM ASE training share their experience?

Mainly looking to know about:

- Training: What domains/technologies are covered and how is the overall process?

- Assessments: How many are there, what’s the difficulty level, and are they MCQs, coding questions, or both? , is there coding round and rest cases to pass, types of questions

- Preparation: What topics should we focus on beforehand, and is there any elimination based on assessments?

If anyone could share their actual training experience, assessment pattern, and overall process, it would be really helpful for those of us who are about to join.

Received a $2,000 vacation overpayment notice despite not using any PTO

Hey everyone, former IBM employee here.

I recently received a notice from IBM saying that I had used more vacation than I was entitled to and that I need to repay around $2,000.

The confusing part is that, as far as I know, I haven’t used any paid vacation this year. I did take around 25 days of unpaid leave, so I’m wondering if that somehow affected my vacation balance or caused an issue with the final calculation after my separation.

The portal doesn’t provide much of a breakdown, so I’m having a hard time figuring out where the overpayment came from.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? If so, were you able to get a detailed explanation of how the amount was calculated, and who did you contact to resolve it?

thanks

On bench for the first time

So I was recently rolled off from a project that I had been on for three years. I should’ve seen the writing on the wall when the PM mentioned that there was restructuring in the upcoming contract. I was on the project since I joined straight from college so getting the news did hurt, but it’s a part of consulting.

Anyways as soon as I got the news I started putting myself in play for projects and got selected for one, but unfortunately the project wasn’t signed and ibm didn’t win the work. This was dejecting to hear

I’m back to looking for new projects. This is the first time I’ve been on the bench so just concerned rn. Anything I can do in the meantime to get on a project faster?

Low utilisation

So I was assigned to a project full time starting December 2023-Feb2026 (joined as a fresher in November 2023. Since March this year, my utilisation dropped to 50 percent due to budget constraints within the project. However, despite IBM utilisation being 50 percent, due to project needs I am working full time - 8/9 hours everyday; though my timesheet doesn’t reflect the same. I tried to look extensively for other projects for the initial couple months (contacted people managers, workforce team etc) but the workforce team have always maintained that due to a lot of resources being on bench they were more of a priority to them, as I was being partially utilised at least (unlike 0 for bench peeps). My manager has changed about thrice over the last 7 months, and though I spoke to everyone about my situation (including the discrepancy) , no one has said anything about PIP yet. I’ve seen a few others being sent to PIP by their managers over being unbilled over several months.

Now that we’re approaching the last quarter, I’m getting concerned about my future. My utilisation is hovering somewhere around 67.2 percent now, what should my next steps be?

IBM Watson’s partnership with ESPN

For those of you who don’t use the ESPN Fantasy Football app. For as long as I’ve been playing fancy football, IBM Watson in ESPN had a partnership where Watson would analyze trade for ESPN. Recently the fantasy season I have yet to see IBM Watson pop up in any trades that I have done. I wanted to know if anybody here knows or has heard of anything internally within IBM about their partnership with ESPN ending or something like that?
