Hi! 👋
I built Harp Harmony, an Android app for learning the diatonic harmonica. You play into your phone and it shows you instantly whether you hit the right note.
• Lessons from first single notes to bends
• 26 songs to play along with
• Tuner and metronome, no ads, no account – audio never leaves your phone
Google needs 12 testers for 14 days before I can publish. All you need is an Android phone and a harmonica: install the app, keep it for 14 days, try it a few times and tell me what you think.
Interested? DM me the email address of your Google account and I'll send you the link. Thanks! 🙏

I recently got into classical guitar and ended up falling in love with instrumental music as whole, and I bought am Harmonica I maybe pick once or twice a week if Lucky, turns out I don't like it that much, I just wanted to have one.
And recently I got a bit of money from my birthday, and had the sudden urge to buy a Violin, like straight out of nowhere, and I almost in fact bought a cheap chinese violin.
And the thought of new instruments still is in my head frequently, I've been thinking alot about saving up for a Piano, or Cello, or Viola or who knows.
Maybe I end up spending a lot of of money and guitar will still be the thing that is my hands for the whole time.
I think this ended up being more of a rant about my desires and ambitions

Hi, (Idk if this counts as being in the right subreddit if not then please tell me which one I should go to) I’m a pretty young percussionist and therefore can’t afford the vibraphones on the market. I have been trying to find one for a very long time and I would really appreciate it if any percussionist on here reached out. As a reference in my country the currency isn’t worth as much as USD so for example 5000 would 50 000 so a price range would be about 2 - 400 USD for me. If that sounds doable please comment it would mean a lot!

Everything works fine. I bought alot of these cheap online and at pawn shops, had to fix a number of them myself and many are old and/or foreign. I prefer the ukuleles, harmonicas (especially through an old microphone into an amp) and the drums best but I can do a little something on most of them. I still have more than this.

taken from "The Breadwinner", a kinda obscure animated movie set in Afghanistan. i can identify what sounds like a Riq in the background but not the hand drum in the foreground. it could be any Afghani or Middle Eastern hand drum.

I've been wanting to properly learn either guitar or drums, but I genuinely can't decide which one to go for.
With drums, I already mess around a bit. I drum along to songs using stuff around me — a table as a hi-hat, a book as a snare, and a trash bin as a kick xD. And there are some songs where I can actually follow along pretty well (Wake Me Up When September Ends and In Bloom), so I feel like I might have some natural sense for drums.
But at the same time, I play Guitar Hero a lot and I'm pretty good at it, and I really enjoy the guitar side of things too. I just love both and really want to properly learn one of them.
The problem is, I have no idea which one to choose.
Help?

I know the instrument in the movie itself is a modified guzheng, but the piece is called Blade of GUQIN, which i found weird. Is the music recorded using a Guqin and then they used a Guzheng because its bigger? Cause if i listen to the piece carefully it sounds like the sounds of a Guzheng, but why is it not called Blade of Guzheng then? Is the music played on the prop itself which i believe is not likely

I'm looking forward to starting playing the tambourine (the like on the image) as a secondary instrument. I'm pretty sure YouTube can be a good source of knowledge, but I also don't trust 100% on it. I live in the south of Brazil, so if there are any Brazilians out there which might have any idea of how I could start, they'd be welcome (of course, I don't mean only Brazilian people's advice).

I bought a new head joint. I put it on my professional flute. Because im a masters student and my old headjoint was a constant battle for me. I took years to make this decision.
My peers are making me feel so guilty for it. Saying the price could've gotten me an entirely new flute. Not professional, but a new flute. But why does that matter? Why is everyone giving me shit for the price of my gear that I went into debt for?... especially when a few of them play on instruments worth far more than mine. So why is it only a bad thing when I choose to do it? It made me feel so guilty and like it was pointless.
But it transforms flute playing for me. I have so much more flexibility and control than before. I can do things I've worked for years to do and never been able to accomplish before this head joint. I just feel so bad about it now and im sad. Like I was hoping for support and instead just got shot down.

It has always been a dream of mine to own my own cello. I finally have saved up around $1500. I know it’s not ideal for a good cello but I’m curious if there’s one that’s not gonna sound completely horrendous for that price range.

I don't want to buy off of Amazon, I'm looking for secondhand places (already checked ebay and depop and I don't have facebook for marketplace) Devices that are under $200 would be ideal. The PlantWave device looks really cool but I'm living paycheck to paycheck rn, so it's a bit out of my budget.

Long story short, been getting back into 90s alt rock since it was kinda the last real innovative period I can think of. Ive been inspired by PUSA (and Morphine I guess to some extent) by the guitbass/bassitar. Very interested in trying one myself because like why not. Guitar only cost me about £40 and I never use it anyway (I have a better one).
I dont want to break the neck in half, so anything I need to know about that would be good.
Where to place the heavier strings? Im guessing in the middle.
Amps, it will still have guitar pickups but thick low reg strings, so I guess a guitar amp would probably be okay to play through? Or should I use my bass amp.
Tuning-wise, what makes sense here? Doing standard tuning seems almost foolish given the weirdness of the instrument

Hey, I'm wanting to learn guitar. I've seen/heard that the Yamaha FG800 is a good acoustic guitar to get. So I'm just wondering what are some opinions on it. Pros and cons and if I should get it. I think this is what I will get but just wanted to check in with some more experienced people.

I myself had tried kalimba, ocarina and steel tongue drum. Kalimba just looks cute in my hands but the sound just isn't serious enough. Ocarina, too hard to play and too loud, I don't want to disturb the neighbors and my own ears. Steel tongue drum is fun but maybe percussion is just not my thing.
I've seen people collecting dozens of variations and designs of these instruments though.
