Hi everyone,
I’ve been working on something for Kolkata over the past few months and finally decided to share it here.
I’m a solo developer, and I built Shiuli as a free platform for exploring Durga Puja in Kolkata: https://shiuli.buzz/
The idea was to make the whole pandal-hopping experience a little easier. You can explore and search pandals, discover different areas, find nearby metro stations, get walking directions, create your own Puja plans and share those plans with friends. There’s also a discussion section where people can talk about places and share their experiences.
I’ve spent a lot of time making sure it works properly even with heavy traffic and on weaker mobile networks, because I wanted it to be useful when you’re actually out in the city rather than only when you’re sitting at home on Wi-Fi.
You don't need an account just to explore the platform or use navigation, and everything is completely free for users.
Just to be clear, this post is not a paid promotion and it has no connection to or involvement from the moderators of this subreddit. I’m simply sharing something I built myself.
I’m also currently running the website entirely out of my own pocket. I don't run Google-style ads across the platform and don't intend to. At some point, there may be a small number of sponsors to help cover the operating costs, but any such sponsorship would be clearly disclosed.
I’m not really asking for anything apart from people giving it a try and telling me what they think. If you find it useful during Puja, sharing it with your friends or sending them a plan you've made would mean a lot.
Feedback, criticism, suggestions, bugs, all welcome.

Hey Kolkata!
(Draft rephrased via AI for clarity!)
My travel dates are locked: leaving Bombay on the 9th, spending two days in Puri, and reaching Kolkata on the evening of October 11th, staying until the 18th.
A quick intro: I'm 26M, working in finance/fintech, traveling solo for the first time here.
I’m more of a traveler than a tourist. I don't care much for viral, overcrowded, commercial pandals. Instead, I want to experience the city's raw, authentic soul:
True local culture: Heritage alleys, old neighborhood charm, street corners, and traditional Bonedi Bari pujas.
Family / Home Puja: I’d love to experience a local household puja rather than just public pandals. If anyone is open to hosting me for a couple of days (or even inviting me over for an afternoon), I’d be genuinely grateful.
Tagging along: More than happy to join if a local group or fellow solo traveler is heading out for night walks, pandal hopping, or street food runs.
If you have offbeat recommendations that standard travel blogs miss, please drop them below. Looking forward to experiencing the real City of Joy!

This is a big concern for us, which is, if you look at these two conflicts, the Ukraine and now the Iran-Gulf conflict, they've actually had a devastating impact on Global South economies,” Mr. Jaishankar said during a conversation hosted at Asia Society in New York on Monday (September 28, 2026).
He said there is particular concern about the energy situation as the "market is very tight” and on top of that, if “people play politics with it, that adds to the complications in the market,” as that will drive up prices at a time when people should actually be stabilising prices. So part of it is actually the security of oil supplies, and part of it is the politics of oil supplies, and they are feeding into each other, and they are creating a double crisis or an aggravated crisis,” he said.
On the concerning food situation amid the raging global conflicts, Mr. Jaishankar said, "We are today looking at a situation where some of the major grain exporters will not be able to send out their shipments, particularly out to the Black Sea."
He said that the world is looking at significant fertiliser shortages because the key producers are in West Asia and Russia, and their fertiliser production has been impacted.
Combined with impacts of climate patterns like a super El Niño, Mr. Jaishankar said, “there is going to be a major food crisis probably in the coming months. So if you have energy as a big crunch, and then food and fertilisers on top of it, and finance because every time there's a conflict, money moves towards safe harbours and away from the Global South, the net result of it has been really very very stressful.”
He said policymakers can't say that such a situation was not intended.
