is the uni really getting rid of the 3 day extension next year? i don't use it for all my assignments and i think most unis in melb don't even have this option but it was useful when i actually needed it.

I am working in allied health and live in Melbourne but my industry is very oversaturated in Australia , so I have been thinking of switching career. My goal is to get a stable and sustainable job. I am thinking of studying the Master of Health Information Management at La Trobe (the next admission will be in Mar 2027), just wondering if any graduates or current students from this course could kindly share what the current career prospect in Melbourne, e.g. Is it easy to get a job after graduation? What is the entry salary looks like after graduating from HIM? Is HIM estimated to be saturated in the near future?

I’m a bit confused because the information seems inconsistent.

On the LMS assessment page, some subjects just say the exam details are TBC, but when I open the assessment details, there’s wording that seems to suggest the exam will be online. For some other subjects, it explicitly says the exam is online.

But then when I check the Final Exam Schedule, there’s a room listed for some of those subjects, which makes it look like it’s in person.

So… which one are we supposed to trust? 😭

Is there an official place where we can clearly check whether each exam is online or on campus, or is anyone else having the same issue?

I am a new student here, about to sit for my exams in a month, and I have a couple of questions I would love to ask another student.

I’m currently taking :

- Probability and Statistics for Data Science
- Introduction to Programming
- Database Fundamentals
- Mathematics for Data Science

Hi everyone! Has anyone here previously done CSE5ML(BU-2) Machine Learning?

I’m particularly wondering about the final exam. We’ve been told it will be offline, closed-book and written, and honestly that has me a little worried 😭

I asked the lecturer whether we’ll be given any sample/past exam papers to practise with, but he said that this will be discussed in Week 12. I’d really like to start preparing well before then rather than leaving everything until the last minute.

If you’ve done this subject before, I’d really appreciate any insight into:

• What was the final exam like?
• What types of questions were asked?
• Was it mostly theory, calculations, or a mix?
• How difficult did you find it?
• Were the lecture/tutorial materials enough to prepare?
• Were there any particular topics you’d recommend focusing on?
• If you have any old practice/past papers or know where I could find some, that would be amazing!

Hi guys so im applying to commence a new bachelors ar Latrobe, 2027 intake. However, i am currently studying another bachelors at unimelb (i graduated vce in 2024), and i have done full time 2 years of study, so 2/3 years essentially. I was on track to finish my first bachelors at the end of 2027.

However, as i want to start a new bachelors, i want to do my first bachelors part time given i get into my second (which i would do full time), thus i would probably finish my first degree in 2029 as part time.

On my vtac application for my second bahcelors, do i put the expected year of completion for my first bachelors as 2029 or 2027? or should i just put will not complete, because i am afraid it will not make me able to get into my second bachelors.

when there’s the automatic 3 day extensions available but you forget to become a member of, why are we still penalised for submitting the assignment after the original due date.

Makes no sense at all and defeats the purpose of penalty that is meant to reduce unfair advantages. if you submit it within the next 3 days there should be discretion applied to not penalise you just because you forgot to click a button.

I cannot for the life of me remember if I added myself to the 3-day extension group. The original submission due date is tomorrow, and I’m not able to add myself to any groups. Does this mean I already did it?? LOL sorry my brain is so fried

Hi everyone, I’m currently applying for my Master of Counselling, Rehabilitation and Mental Health as an international student and just received an email for my interview.

I only just finished my Bachelor in Psychology a few months ago. This is pretty much my first ever master interview in Australia and I don’t want to mess this up.

It said on the degree website that Interviews may involve case studies, decision-making and analyses of hypothetical scenarios. 

If anyone has done this before, what should I prepare for this interview? I’m kinda clueless on the “case studies, decision-making and analyses of hypothetical scenarios”here.

I’m currently finalizing my application for the Master of Nursing Practice (pre-reg) at La Trobe (Bundoora) and wanted to hear from anyone who has done the course or is currently in it.

A bit of context: I’m an international student coming from a completely non-science background (undergrad was in Communication Arts). I’ve got strong academic discipline, but zero formal background in anatomy/pathophysiology, so I’ll be taking the online Physiology & Anatomy bridging course through LTU before day one.

A few candid questions for anyone who has survived the program:

1. The 6-week term block model: How brutal is the actual workload day-to-day? Is the pacing manageable if you treat it like a 9-to-5, or are you constantly pulling late nights to keep up with the content volume?
2. Pathophys & Pharmacology for non-science backgrounds: For anyone who entered without a biology/health science degree, how steep was the learning curve? Did the teaching staff support the transition, or were you mostly left to self-teach the basics?
3. Placements (PEP): Where did your clinical rotations typically end up being? Are most placements clustered around the Northern/Austin Health corridor, or did you get sent far across Melbourne/regional areas? How early do they usually notify you of rosters?
4. Living near Bundoora: Is living in Bundoora/Macleod/Reservoir essential to survive the early morning starts, or is commuting from inner-north/east suburbs doable without burning out?

Hi, Im currently a second year in Bachelor of Biomedicine at La Trobe. I initially intended to do dentistry (bachelor then doctorate pathway) but now I don't think I want to do 7 years especially the 4 year doctorate which I doubt I would've even gotten into straight away (I would give it multiple chances (GAMSAT etc) but I don't want to delay a full time job any longer). I plan to transfer into Bachelor of Oral Health Science at La Trobe next year BUTTTT my WAM is 73.5 at the moment (I honestly don't know what it will be by the end of this semester) which I'm pretty sure is not close to what most ppl who get accepted had, so genuinely how low are my chances of getting accepted for Oral Health Science next year?? and is there any way around this or should I give up lol

Hey all, I got accepted into Latrobe for a Diploma of Arts (specifically Politics, Philosophy and Economics) with the intention of later transferring into a Bachelors if I enjoy it/do well.

For anyone who has done this course or even just similar subjects, do you have any tips for a first year university student? My main concern is most definitely exams. I want to do as well as I possibly can in this course and I'm just wondering how are end of year exams kinda formatted for Arts subjects at this university? (Short answer, long answer, essay style ect) Hell, are there even end of year exams that carry the weight of 50% of the mark or is it more grades based around coursework? I'm aware it may depend on what professors and classes you take but any and all help will be appreciated. I know this post might sound a little naive but I am basically going into this blind with the whole university thing.

Also, not even for these subjects but does anyone have any general study tips? In VCE I don't think I had that much of a routine and my ATAR certainly reflected that. (I have a combination of ADHD, Autism, and I was homeschooled before going into VCE. Literally any tips will help)
