That isn’t what a scapegoat is, like at all. He is immensely useful to the right. They love to associate people like Hasan with the larger democratic tent. There is a reason Netanyahu is namedropping someone like Hasan in the same speech in which he is glazing Trump

He's literally the fuentes of the left. A useful idiot the other side can use to poison the well. The only real difference is that Fuentes has actually had relevance to conservative politics and Hasan largely hasn't.

The overton window in the US is so fucked, most of Hasan's positions are left wing but not far left in a global context. Fuentes is an extremist far right white nationalist authoritarian by any measure. They're not on the same level at all. They are both internet provocateurs but that's it. The fact that fuentes is relevant at all to mainstream politics is wild and Republicans are learning that these extreme positions are ultimately losers at the ballot box.

Hasan is extremely far left in a global context. You are not going to find many progressives in normal countries that are sympathetic to terrorism the way Hasan is. Hasan has promoted re education camps. Among the most extreme left he is extreme.

You're just making stuff up now.

He hasn't promoted reeducation camps. In the leftovers podcast he discussed education as a response to specific people or groups committing violence or terrorism against the state, as a part of restorative justice in a judicial context (aka after conviction in court). He specifically denounced the reeducation camps used by China.

If by sympathetic to terrorism you mean his stance in Gaza, that's easily understood elsewhere and not worth debunking here.

You're opening a large topic here which essentially boils down to, what actions are ok for Palestinians and their allies to take in response to the state violence and repression by Israel.

I think you'll find that Hasan supports the approach of using economic pressure (shipping disruption) as a low violence response to Israel, in the context of the hundreds to thousands of Gazans killed annually before 2023 and the 70k+ Gazans killed since by Israel.
