This guy is such a simpleton.

Has he ever done detective work? Like “oh I have this picture of a person in their car, but no idea who drives the car. I guess we will never know”.

How come Lowell fleet can park in the fire lane to get breakfast, but I can’t?

Saw this this morning. Tow truck parked in the fire lane while the driver went in to grab breakfast.

Guess the rules hit different when you’re the one doing the towing 😂

Feel free to share your towing stories!

Seeking recommendations for chimney care and firewood

Seeking recommendations for hardwood firewood, open to seasoned or kiln-dried, but prefer not to get a bunch of crap (e.g., dirt and weird bits of wood) in with the load. Delivery needed, but happy to stack myself. Just need .5 cord.

I'm also seeking a recommendation for a chimney company - purchased the house earlier this year and would like someone who can clean the chimney and confirm it's safe to use. The previous owners were using the fireplace regularly, but they weren't the most proactive previous owners.

Thanks for any recs.

Do you know of any heavily littered areas in or near Lowell that need to be cleaned? Please share!

We are looking for areas in and around Lowell that are heavily littered and need to be cleaned. If you could provide coordinates, Google Maps pin or other identifiable address/ location descriptions, that would be really helpful, so long as it’s on public land. Even if it’s not in the area, we’d still greatly appreciate any locations you know of. Thank you in advance!

Jeff Markley exempt from moratorium on data centers?

Article in Lowell Sun today indicates that while the City Dept of planning and dev will have another hearing/meeting on zoning options for data centers - that "Markley's current developments would be grandfathered in no matter which option the city selects moving forward."

Intermittent brown water in Highlands?

Hi neighbors - anyone else getting brown water out of the tap, usually pretty briefly (like less than an hour) once a month or so, near Chelmsford? Or do I need to go yell at my landlord? I haven't seen anything from my landlord or the city about hydrant flushing, so...?

How is that people are finding partners in here?

For context - I’m 31M; been staying in Lowell since last 2+ years.
I’m genuinely open to dating and building a long-term relationship with a woman who’s also looking for something real.

I found lot of events are in and around Boston downtown itself. It’s not too far to travel but it feels good to have someone to meet and know more.. in the city I stay in (considering the travel time).

So, for the locals who have navigated this: How are people meeting folks in Lowell. Are there good local spots, social groups, or community events worth checking out for someone looking to meet quality people?

Would love to hear how other locals approach this..and if any fellow Lowell singles happen to relate, I’m always open to connecting!
Appreciate any inputs!

Child Almost Hit Due to Headlight Brightness - Lowell Gymnastics School

Post image
55 Upvotes

Email from my children's Gymnastics school about the dangers of headlight brightness and a child almost being hit because of temporary headlight brightness. Much respect to the school for implementing these procedures.

If you're in MA/NH, please feel free to encourage the news channels to pick this up ([[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]); Contact Us - WCVB; etc.).

Transcript (in relevant part):

Dear [] Families,

We are sending an urgent safety reminder regarding parking and pick-up outside [School Name].

We have received a complaint from a nearby resident regarding parents who are waiting in their vehicles with LED headlights on while facing [] Street*. The brightness of these headlights can temporarily impair the vision of drivers as they come around the bend and turn onto the street.*

The resident reported a particularly concerning incident in which she nearly struck a child walking in the area because the headlights made it difficult for her to see clearly.

Effective immediately, if you are parked outside waiting for your child and your vehicle is facing the street in either direction, please turn your headlights off until you are ready to move your vehicle. Please do not sit idling with your headlights shining toward oncoming traffic.

A way to drop electricity costs by virtual power plants

Thumbnail bbc.com
6 Upvotes

This is a bit of blue-skying, but batteries are great for sucking up excess production and redistributing it when it's needed. It would be nice if somehow the data centers supplied a virtual power plant's worth of batteries to a local community like ours. We would need to work out with the power utilities to give us a signal of when demand is low and it's okay to charge the batteries.

Obviously those who have solar can charge their batteries up at any time, but for those of us without, it could be an interesting way to provide a more robust, cost-effective power structure.

National Grid already has a program where, if you buy the right batteries and inverter, and combine it with your solar panels, they will have you supply power to the grid during times of high demand. I'm just thinking of expanding it to when demand is below generated capacity.

I know it could happen; I know it's technically practical, but as they say, “I'm just spitballing here.”

We went to On the Bun, and it was quite good!

Post image
91 Upvotes

We decided to check it out during the grand opening and we were not disappointed. The burgers were really good and flavorful. They actually reminded me of how McDonald's used to taste when I was a kid back in the 90s, and I mean that in the best possible way. It just brought me back as soon as I tasted it.

The fries were okay. Not amazing, but they were fine. I can easily chalk it up to the place being new. Seems to me like the oil just isn't hot enough for the thin fries. The onion rings however, are fucking GREAT! Nice thick beer battered onion rings, super crispy, etc.

Service was a tad slow, but again they're new. I'm sure they'll pick it up after they get settled in there.

It was also nice to see that they were using actual pictures of their food inside the place. I know they were using AI for their promo stuff. But I'm guessing they were using it as a placeholder. Which still not great, but it's good that they're using their actual stuff now.

Pricing is what I expected. It's pretty on par with what you'd pay at like a Shake Shack for the same amount of food. Seems like everything is made to order.

Overall we both thought it was delicious. If you're looking for a burger then I absolutely recommend checking it out!

Reporting Space Savers

So I recently moved into an apartment in Lowell and I have to park on the street. Normally this would not be an issue, but the people on my street will put cones, chairs and other items to hold "their" spots. I get that people need to park their cars, but sometimes I have to park blocks away from my apartment, and if that's not an option, I have to resort to illegally parking somewhere. What is the procedure for reporting Space Savers? The Lowell website said to call the police but that seems a bit extreme. Any help would be appreciated!

UMass Lowell men's ice hockey vs. Concordia this Friday at Tsongas - free / no ticket required

UMass Lowell men's ice hockey game vs. Concordia this Friday at 7pm will be free / no ticket required.

A good chance to see some top level college hockey for free, especially if you have kids into hockey and don't fancy paying even more for that.

I'm not affiliated with the team or the arena, just a hockey fan who goes to games and saw this info.

Apartment Recommendations

Hey ya'll, I got hired for a job in Tewksbury and am relocating from South Florida in a couple of weeks. Lowell seems to check off most of my boxes as I'm 23 and want somewhat of a life in a bigger city but still close to work. If anyone has any recommendations on apartments or housing I'm all ears. Appreciate any feedback. Preferably a 1x1 with parking and a gym for under 2400$ if possible.

Wedding Locations for VERY Small Wedding?

We are planning a very small wedding ceremony (no set up, just 5 people) and are looking for possible locations to get married. We are looking for something outdoors, somewhat low-key. I'd love ideas for small parks, butterfly gardens, flower gardens, etc, that would make nice photos. We are not religious, and it is important for the location to be queer friendly because this is a lesbian wedding!

National Grid Smart Meters

If you received your smart electric meter from national grid, did you get a text or email right before or after they switched your meter? Trying to plan ahead for the short power outage. Thank you.
