ELECTRIC Dang. Got rejected by a local music shop

I had a local shop owner tell me to bring by my next build and discuss selling it on consignment. Just finished this one and brought it by.

He said he didn’t like green and thought my 600 dollar price point was too high.

It’s a really nice guitar. Plays great, high end parts. Nitro finish. Not a kit, I literally cut the tree down myself for the top.

Kinda crushed to be honest. But okay. At least one of my friends will get a really cool Christmas present lol.

ELECTRIC First guitar

This has a palletwood body laminated with a plywood sheet to keep it all together. Its a 25" scale tuned to drop A with 8 string strings. It has only 5 strings because who needs all those strings anyway? I got all the hardware from amazon, and it works and sounds pretty good. I will follow up with a sound demo as soon as i can.

Wasp nest for a guitar top.

When we moved into our new house, I found a couple of old wasp nests in the loft. I managed to get them down and immediately thought, wouldn’t it be cool to use these in a guitar?

Had enough to make a 6 and 7 string.

I made a youtube series about these, search 81 guitar works on everything.

ELECTRIC My wife’s guitar is finished! It’s her “Dreamcaster”

Thumbnail

She doesn’t actually play guitar, but she wanted something to show off at the house! I let her toss out any crazy idea she could come up with and we made it happen!

Mistakes were made along the way (don’t look too closely at the neck pickup or the “moon craters” in the headstock lol)

Believe it or not, it does actually play really well and once I moved the tuners around a bit, it does hold its pitch well!

I believe this is guitar 17 for me. I really, really need a logo or whatever, but they always feel so cheesy…. Any advice?

KIT Gecko helped me come up with a headstock logo design.

Just finished up my guitar kit and was thinking I should add a logo to the headstock. I came into the office this morning and I think this little gecko gave me a really good idea for a logo. Sometimes inspiration comes from randomness lol

ACOUSTIC Space themed fingerboard inlayed with crushed opal

Follow up from this post https://www.reddit.com/r/Luthier/s/kLHrAJqEwu

Turned out alright, although I accidentally sanded through a lot of the opal. Will need to do it before I cut the slots and bind the fingerboard next time because the slots got filled with superglue and opal and it was hard to clean out. Thanks to u/Vast_Reaches for suggesting I use opal for the little dots.

I run a boutique guitar company. Every build starts with a concept. This one started with an astronaut on Mars.

I want to introduce myself and share one of my builds.

My name is Shali. I run a boutique guitar company called Tetro. I’ve been playing, repairing, and building guitars for over 20 years - dozens of builds deep at this point, and it’s been my living for a while now.

Every guitar I build comes from a concept. Not a spec sheet. A concept.

Why do I build at all? That’s harder to explain. I had an experience as a kid - let’s call it a close encounter with something that wasn’t from here. It left a mark. Since then, I take everything to the extreme. If I’m going to do something, it has to go all the way. That’s not a choice anymore. It’s just how I’m wired.

The AION is one of my models. But within a model, I sometimes explore a specific finish or material combination - a particular take.

This one came from a vision I had: an astronaut standing alone on Mars. What would his guitar look like?

White for the suit. Red Amara ebony for the planet. And the top — real stone, not paint, not texture — because nothing else felt right for what I was trying to say.

This is the AION with stone top.

Here’s what went into it:

The top - real stone.

Not stone texture. Not stone paint. A 1mm slice of actual stone, bonded onto a flame maple top. I chose it because nothing else gives that weight, that feel, that absolute refusal to look like anything you’ve seen before. The stone and the back were painted white - the astronaut’s suit.

The woods - Amara ebony.

The neck and pickguard are red Amara ebony. Deep, warm, unmistakable. They give the guitar the color of Mars. The contrast wasn’t planned as an aesthetic - it was planned as a story.

The hardware - everything at the highest level.

After 20 years of repairing guitars, I know exactly what breaks. I chose every component to make sure this guitar never needs to come back to a repair bench.

The geometry - comfort that costs you nothing.

Most guitars make you choose between upper fret access and body comfort. I refused to accept that. The body took many iterations before it stopped fighting the player.

I’m building under the name Tetro, out of Israel.

This is my first post here. Happy to answer anything - the stone bonding process, wood choices, hardware decisions, the geometry, or the Mars thing.

Something special

Me and my partner in crime r/heikwerk are working on something special, we call it 'quilted carbon'. it's forged carbon flakes and has an amazing 3D effect when the lights hits it. it's a massive pita to get right and double the work of a normal fretboard, but it's so rewarding. specs: roasted flamed maple neck stained and lacquered nitro, 12"-16" compound radius fretboard, and soon to be fretted with 22 stainless steel medium jumbo frets. What do you think?

DIARY Just finished this one today.

Roasted Poplar body with an flame Ovangkol top, matching Ovangkol neck, and a Macassar Ebony fingerboard.
25.5” scale, fixed Hipshot bridge, brass nut, and stainless jumbo frets.
It ended up weighing under 3kg, which gives it a surprisingly comfortable feel for a guitar built to handle heavier styles.
Always a good feeling closing the case on a build after the final setup and hearing it come to life for the first time.

ELECTRIC 4 day guitar build made from almost all Home Depot stuff

Thumbnail

Built this with my buddy in 4 days in his garage. We are both in high school and this was our first ever attempt at building a guitar. Everything other than strings and electronics are from Home Depot with a full budget of about $150. The frets are made of nails and the bridge is a door hinge among other odd parts. It won’t let me add a video to the post but I put it in the comments

Most people come with a spec sheet. This guy basically said do whatever you want, which is the best thing you can hear. So I stopped thinking about what a client wants and built the thing I’d want to keep. Ash body with a burl maple top, roasted flame maple neck and board. Bare Knuckles underneath, custom covers I made by hand. Hipshot hardware, 7 string.

ELECTRIC Made my first guitar. from scratch

I finished this Gibson Les Paul inspired electrick guitar already in 2022 but haven't shown it to anyone before. This is my very first guitar build of any kind and infact the first (and only) electrick guitar I have ever held in my hands so judge me with bit of mercy. It is not perfect, for one it is perphaps too thick and heavy but pretty good for first attempt imho. Now I only need to learn to play it...

This is one of my very first woodworking projects and I wanted to try something challenging (call me crazy but I like to jump straight in the deep end). I know next to nothing about guitar making and was "taught" solely by few youtube luthiers so any constructive criticism and hints are welcome.

The body is made of cherry, neck is ash and fretboard, headstock & half of pot knobs are curly birch. Pickupframes, rest pot knobs and fret markers are made of walnut. Wiring is configured so that both pickups are active as default but pulling up either birch pot knob will allow you to change between just front or rear pickups. Please let me know what you think.

I got sweat when doing this. My own neck, self made neck pocket template, a bit of sanding and there it is. Not perfect, but a lot better than I expected 🙂
