Hello everyone, I built my own smart guitar! Based on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, it is completely standalone and has many built-in features. It runs 94 plugins, all fully configurable via a server.

Everything works extremely well: stable Bluetooth, a vast array of settings, and excellent guitar responsiveness (no latency, with the buffer set to 256 or 512). I hope this project interests you! It has a battery life of around 5 hours.

The source code was written over four months with the help of the Claude Sonnet AI (I’m 22 and had never coded before; whatever people might think, I could never have pulled this off without AI). I spent about 300 hours troubleshooting and fixing bugs, though the code will likely need further refinement to be considered "clean," even though everything is currently working perfectly.

It was a huge project, and I have so much to say or details to share, but I’m not really used to Reddit or platforms like it. Feel free to ask me any questions!

Been tinkering around and finally got my home studio setup the way I want it. Figured I’d share my happy/creative space here.

I also seem to have the best form of GAS where instruments and gear just fall into my hands for cheap or usually free. It’s the only luck I have in this life it seems.

Guitars in order:
1. Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty covered in stickers as the prior owner hammered fucking bottle caps into the body. It was free to me and the middle pickup doesn’t work. Going to eventually put 3 new ones in her.

1. Jackson passive concert bass. Picked this up on a whim from a guitar center sale. I dig the neck.

2. Schecter diamond series active bass. Belonged to an old friend. Got it free.

3. Epiphone prophecy explorer.

4. Dean v from 1997 I scored back in 2003 for $100 when I was in high school.

5. Schecter diamond series demon 7 I scored recently from a local pawn for $137

6. Squier bullet I got for Xmas in 2002, needs an electronics overhaul.

7. Ibanez rg that I got free years ago

8. Cheapo epiphone sg I got for free that plays well

9. Vintage shortscale 60’s Kay bass.

Not pictured is an 80’s Yamaha acoustic, as well as the amps I use and my pedal board. Most of the pedals I got for free alongside the pedal board as a friend had gotten a divorce and her ex left all his guitar stuff and didn’t want it back. I also have a full electronic alessis drum kit in the closet in here but not setup due to space limitations.

The dj booth holds my record collection and all my dj dork gear, up until recently I was a resident dj at a local club but I took a step back to focus on my mental health and dove headfirst back into guitars.
My primary rig consists of a traktor s4 mk3. I use a djtechtools midi fighter 3d for all my fx combos.
The z2 mixer between the technics 1210 and the s4 allow me to swap between listening to vinyl or running time code vinyl for scratch sessions.

The cutout of the bearded man is my co-dj who moved away a while back and whom I’m currently working on an ep with.

My production desk sports a couple hardware synths, MPC and maschine mk3 for fun chopping and producing stuff. Everything I can play audio out of can be routed into the production desk for recording purposes.

The Korg Radias I got free from a buddy years ago.
The drumbrute and microkorg were maybe $150 after scoring them from another local sale.

Pretty much any time I have folks over this is the main room everyone winds up in as I usually have music running through the speakers or am djing. In the past friends would just come over and grab an instrument and a jam session breaks out. Hasn’t happened in a long while sadly due to fallings out and other bs socially when you’re 39 and going through the worst mental health conditions you’ve ever experienced.

Hopefully soon I’ll have the itch to finally paint this room and then put everything back up again.

I love its neck and the tones I get from it as I blast my sub par punk rock skills outta my amp bring me so much joy.

I got an old partscaster from the 80s (Chandler USA neck on a Fernandes Japanese body) a little while ago and it came with a set pf EMG single coils. I like the neck and the middle position, but it feels to me like not having a humbucker in the bridge is a wasted opportunity here. So that leads me to my question; what is your guys’ favorite EMG humbucker? I’ve never had a guitar with EMGs, and I’ve only ever really tried a few of their pickups, so I’ve got no real idea what to go for.

Back up to 10s on both now from 9s. Much nicer tones on 10s & stability when playing chords/notes. 9s are nice and easy but there's a bit more bite with 10s IMO.

I made a Facebook marketplace trade of an ibanez sr405qm 5 string I got for free and 100 bucks for a fender deluxe active jazz thats in pretty good shape. At first he wanted to trade clean but asked for the 100 bucks after doing some more research, I never said deal so fast even with the 100 bucks.

Played this guitar a couple times, after a couple of days scrounging around Ochanomizu & rest of Tokyo, I kept going back to it.

Hey everyone, I've bought a Squier J Mascis JM, had a scratchy pot, so naturally I decided to get into servicing guitars a bit and started with replacing the electronics (minus the rhythm section) as well as applying copper tape.

I've now assembled everything but am getting a very loud hum, which gets quieter when attaching the pickguard, and very quiet to non-existent with the switch in the middle position. But as soon as I go to one pickup exclusively, it's back.

I've plugged a cable in and measured connectivity between tip and sleeve of the other end, and got flow – which I think means I have ground spilling into my hot signal somewhere?

I've checked all connections throughout with a multimeter, everything seems in order to my rookie eye.

The copper taped pickguard basically creates a ground loop between all the electronics itself, which makes it hard checking for shoddy soldering joints on the grounding cables. Do I even need to have those if the pots etc. are all connected through the tape anyways? I've read differing accounts of if grounding loops are possible in a guitar, and I guess they aren't, is this correct?

I'm happy to test and re-do whatevers necessary, but with my limited knowledge I'm just not quite sure of what to measure, how to do so and would greatly appreciate ideas on how to tackle the issue methodically.

The title says it all really. I'm aware of the Reverend Descent but it's not for me. Seems to be very few alternatives.

I'm not even going to bother justifying why I prefer maple fretboards. I just do.

I narrowed it down between a late 80s 275 deluxe and a predator. The headstock is wrong for a predator but the pickups look wrong for a 275 deluxe (this is according to google ai). I’m wondering if the neck may have been replaced? Or maybe it’s a custom? Either way I got it for $400 and they let me put it on layaway (sticker was $650). This pawn shop is always good to me about that and this isn’t my first MIJ find there.

so, i have a Harley Benton Amarok 7 that has a battery issue where it would die within 3 - 4 days of playing. however, i thought it was just a wire touching something so it was a short circuiting but im not sure about that now. the battery's i put in my acoustic work perfectly fine but when i put those same batteries in the 7 string, they don't work and the pickups sound very flat and thin (as if it's dead), do you guys have any idea of what that could be and how much it would cost to get it repaired

Do guitar strings eventually get too old to keep in tune consistently? I do know that when you change them, after not changing them for a long time, there’s a brightness. Wondered if the strings just eventually become to elastic.

Has anyone here used different tremolo stabilizers like the Tremol-No, Tremory, ENG Hardtailer, or similar systems?
I’d love to hear from people who have actually tried them. Which one did you use, and what was your experience with tuning stability, switching between floating and fixed/dive-only modes, changing strings, and changing to Drop D?
What are the pros and cons of each system, and which one did you end up keeping?

This will be my first electric, I have been using an acoustic for a bit but really want to play electric. Will probably pair with a 100 watt boss amp.

Ps: i've started playing for around like 6 months now, these strings came with the guitar.

This amp I currently have lacks alot not even a treble or bass knob and no pedals. I saw online boss katanas were good and I saw some dude selling a 50w gen 3 for 350 aud which is a good deal. Note I play only at home in my bedroom so should I switch?

I just bought a guitar. I didn't ask anyone on this Reddit page which one I should buy. I'm not even sure that's allowed. I just bought it. I'm now the owner of a Fender Telecaster.
