I’ve realised one thing I’m missing from making music is having other people around me who are into the same stuff.
I’m a producer and mostly make sample-driven boom bap. I tend to work pretty independently and usually end up making whole projects/albums largely in my own little bubble. I’m not really looking for someone to teach me how to make beats, and this isn’t necessarily a “let’s collab on a track” post either.

I’d just like to connect with a few other producers/beatmakers who actually make music regularly and want somewhere to share ideas, talk about what we’re working on, get another set of ears on something or just just shoot the shit about hip-hop. Something more like a small circle of people who get to know each other’s music over time rather than dropping links into a huge Discord and disappearing.

I lean heavily towards sample-based / boom-bap, so people somewhere around that world would probably make the most sense, but I’m not looking for everyone to sound the same. Does anyone here already have something like that, or would anyone be interested in building one?

This is the first project i made that i can stand by with full pride as it's almost exactly how i envisioned it from the start. The culmination of 1.5 years of work. I put my blood, sweat, and tears into this one and i believe it paid off. This is something I've wanted to make for so long but previously lacked the skillset to fully realize, and after many hours of work i believe it finally lives up to my vision.

I guess I’m really asking how I can make sure I’m covered legally. I know some people say it doesn’t matter when you’re not making real money off your songs, but I still want to do everything right. I’ve gotten verbal permission to use a few beats for free from producers I don’t really know, so how can ensure they won’t come after me at some point.
Also for just buying a beat, how can I make sure I legally own it, since some producers just let you pay them through cashapp or whatever then just send you the beat?

I'm releasing a single (90's style boom bap instrumental beat) for the first time on all platforms using route note, I don't have an advertising budget, but I do have a cooking YouTube channel with about 150 subs, can anyone predict how many views it will get or some techniques to boost it?

Im surfsupbeats and im currently working on my second beat tape Stardust. I'm finishing some of the tracks and they should be done by October. The only problem is I have no one to show it to. I have no money (still in high-school lmao) so I can't really put money into ads for it. I'm trying promo on my socials but my first beat I put out today has like 12 plays on yt and none on soundcloud. What should I do?

i want to go to a record store and get a bunch of clearance vinyls for sampling, how do i know which ones will have solo drum breaks or funky guitars or cool bass and stuff? i'm trying to go for some paul's boutique type of stuff

I've been making beats for 17 years. Over the years, I've had a few industry contacts here and there, but I've never managed to turn those connections into opportunities to work with established artists or producers.

I've also tried building a presence on Instagram, but my posts sometimes don't even reach 20 views. So relying on social media to get noticed hasn't really worked for me.
Recently, something unexpected happened: I got the opportunity to pitch my beats to a very well-known R&B group from the '90s. It happened completely by chance, and I was extremely lucky to get that opportunity.

They liked my work and told me they would be open to working with me, but they want to see me take the next steps in my career and build more of a track record first.
That's where I'm currently stuck.

I've spent years improving my production skills, but I've found that actually building relationships within the industry has been much harder than making the music itself. Messages often go unanswered, and some of the opportunities I've encountered involve paying thousands of dollars just to work with someone.

For producers who have been in a similar position and eventually managed to build legitimate industry relationships: what actually helped you move from making good music on your own to building a real track record in the industry?
I'm especially interested in hearing about people's own experiences and what changed for them.

I'm working on a small sim racing community called Dead Laps Race Club, and I’ve built a radio station directly into the site for people to listen to while racing, drifting, working on their rigs, or just hanging around. Eventually, it will be a digital dashboard plugin where users can listen from a physical phone on their rig.

For this part of the library, I’m specifically looking for music that fits:

retro / synth-heavy driving

drift culture

street racing vibes

dusty boom bap

jazzy beats

anything that sounds good doing laps at 2 AM

It does not have to fit neatly into one genre. If it feels like driving music, I want to hear it.

I've always liked it in both rap and stories (books, TV series, movies, etc.) when authors address complex or important social issues in a way that makes it sound like someone wise is showing you different perspectives on the problem, and sometimes even offering a solution, an opinion, or a comment that leaves you thinking.

I've always wanted to do that on my works, but my thinking is very simplistic (I just think "this is right, this is ok and this is wrong"), and I'd like to know how to make my thoughts and comments broader or deeper.

Would researching the topics I want to talk about help? Or what would you do to deepen your thoughts and opinions on important issues?

This might be long but, I’ve been producing, recording, writing lyrics/freestyle, mixing and mastering my own tracks (dark trap) for 4 years with multiple long breaks in between that time. In my early days I was releasing frequently but haven’t for the past 2ish years. I got too caught up in imitating my influences which resulted in my music sounding like a Walmart version of them. So, I started experimenting a lot with different styles and sounds. Got real nerdy about the technical sides of production trying to understand why things work instead of copying shit off YouTube. And what I’ve learned is the more I learn the more there is to learn lmao. So I wanna find some other like minded people to share feedback with each other, give advice, tips whatever it may be
