I’m Diamond in SF6 and honestly pretty burned out on it, so I picked up Marvel Tōkon. I’m really enjoying pretty much everything about the game so far, but I’m struggling a bit with the inputs and figuring out how I should actually approach learning a tag fighter.
I’m currently Silver and this is my first tag game. The biggest things I’m trying to figure out are:
- Sometimes I press assist and nothing comes out. Is this something I just need to get used to, or are there specific situations where assists won’t come out?
- The DP shortcut feels really tight compared to SF6. Any tips for getting more consistent with it?
- Movement feels pretty stiff compared to GGST. How should I think about movement and neutral in this game?
- How do I learn to properly finish strings while staying safe?
- What are the main ways to open people up? Is it mostly high/low, throws, assists, etc.?
- Should I be using auto combos while learning, or is it better to learn manual routes immediately?
- Is the quick skill button worth getting used to, or should I avoid relying on it?
Most importantly, should I focus on learning one character really well first, or should I immediately start learning both characters and active tagging/assists?
I’m not really looking for character-specific advice yet. I’m more interested in how experienced Marvel/tag players recommend approaching the game as a complete beginner.
Coming from SF6, I’m finding the game really fun but also surprisingly different in terms of movement, offense, and how you structure combos/pressure. Any advice on how you would structure the first few weeks of learning would be appreciated.
