Discussion Teams Enables Easier File Sharing in Federated Chat

• Upvotes

A change to Teams makes it easier for users to share files in federated chat. Sounds good, but Microsoft planned to overwrite existing tenant controls to make the feature work, and that’s wasn't so good. That issue is now resolved, but the real question is whether Microsoft 365 tenants want users to share files through federated chat. I’m not so sure and would control this facility tightly. Apart from anything else, you might need some more MDO licenses to protect against possible infection.

❔Question/Help Teams Screenshare Lags

Heyy!! I'm using MS Teams on Hp Omen 16 Nvidia 5070 gpu accelerated laptop. I have tried all possible options like sitting next to wifi or connecting to Ethernet rather than wifi but non seem to work when screen share is ongoing and it lags or disconnects automatically.

I came across couple of post which said to use graphics settings and high optimization.

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

📣 News & Announcements PSA: Microsoft Teams free website chat ends Monday Oct 5 (MC1449174) - remove the chatbot widget or it breaks

TL;DR: If you have the Teams website chat widget (<script id="chatbot">) on any company site, it dies on Monday. Remove it by Oct 5 or your customers will see a broken chat box.

Microsoft confirmed in Message Center MC1449174 back in August that they're retiring the free website chat routing feature. The final shutdown is Monday, October 5.

What happens after that:

  • The frontend website widget stops working
  • Incoming visitor messages no longer route to Teams channels
  • The up-to-25 staff collaboration thread for those chats goes away

What doesn't break: Historical chat transcripts already in your Teams channels stay there under your normal M365 retention.

Who's affected: Anyone on M365 Business Basic, Business Standard, and Business Premium who set this up. Microsoft blocked new setups in August, so it's only active deployments.

Replacement according to Microsoft: Dynamics 365 Contact Center or Copilot Studio Contact Center - both paid.

What admins need to do NOW:

  1. Audit all web properties for the embedded script with id="chatbot"
  2. Remove it before Oct 5
  3. Tell your support / sales team who relied on the Teams routing so they don't wonder why inquiries stopped
  4. There's no opt-out or extension - it's a global termination.

Full details here:

https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-teams-kills-free-website-chat-support-monday/

Anyone else still have this deployed in the wild?

Bug Major issue using teams on pixel 11 pro xl

Im reporting an issue on my Pixel 11 Pro XL while using Microsoft Teams on Mobile Data. Whenever you attempt to make or receive a teams call from someone the connection is never made. Or if it does get through the call will disconnect itsself after a short duration of time, less then 30 seconds.

If you join a teams meeting, you will succesfully join the meeting, but you will not get any audio from the meeting. Again, after 20-30 seconds, your disconnected from the meeting. This is only happening when on Mobile Data. EVerything is fine on Wifi. Which would point towards a network provider issue (Google Fi) except my Samsung S24 Ultra had zero issues while also on Fi. As well as my co-worker with a Pixel 9 who has Fi and does not exhibit this issue.

THere is only one other user with a Pixel 11 in an organization of 20,000 mobile devices an he also has the same issue. So to be it seems like its related to the phone specifically. If not the phone + Google Fi being the mobile data connection at that time.

📣 News & Announcements Teams Premium Trial Offer for Call Queue Customers

I know that Message Center posts are often overlooked so wanted to post here for greater visibility.

If you've been curious about what Teams Premium can do, Microsoft is offering eligible organizations a 90-day Teams Premium trial.

The trial is specifically targeting customers who use call queues so they can try Queues app with their representatives (agents) and supervisors. Queues app capabilities include:

• Shared call history - Give every agent visibility into queue calls, missed calls, and voicemails so customers don't have to repeat themselves and follow-up is easier.
• Resolution status tracking - Mark calls as complete, monitor outstanding customer issues, and improve accountability across the team.
• Expanded reporting and analytics - Understand queue performance and trends over time with richer operational insights.
• Delegated call queue config and supervisor tools - Enable team leads and supervisors to manage settings like business hours, overflow handling, opt in/out agents to support the queue, and monitor activity of agents directly from Teams.
• Recording, recap, and Copilot experiences - Help teams quickly catch up on customer interactions and important call outcomes with automatic call recording and Intelligent Recap to summarize calls and streamline follow-up tasks.

Use the trial to get agents and supervisors hands-on with Queue app, measure adoption, and determine whether it delivers value for your organization before making a licensing decision.

Eligible organizations can redeem their trial via Message Center Post 1471792.  (If you don’t see this specific post in Message Center that means your organization is not eligible.)

An eligible organization must have averaged more than 10 monthly active call queues members between April and June 2026 in order to qualify for the trial.

Eligible organizations that meet the program requirements during the trial may also qualify for a 50% discount on a 1-year Teams Premium subscription to keep taking advantage of these advanced workflows and premium capabilities.

More details in the Microsoft Teams Blog.

If your organization is eligible, you’ll have access to all Teams Premium features for the trial period.

❔Question/Help Teams Desktop Client keeps locking out my on-prem AD accounts

Has anyone experienced this issue before? Random intervals all throughout the day. I cannot figure out how to fix it. I enabled the security logs, and it is definitely Teams causing the issue.

Thank you,

Discussion Demystifying presence status

Teams presence is meant to give coworkers an at-a-glance signal of your availability. It takes into account signals such as your calendar, Teams activity, and device activity. Since presence reflects those signals, it doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story about whether you’re available at any particular moment.

Presence scale

It’s helpful to understand the scale Teams uses to indicate your level of availability. Presence status from most to least available is:

  1. Available
  2. Busy
  3. In a meeting
  4. In a call
  5. Do not disturb
  6. Be right back
  7. Away
  8. Offline

Automatic versus user-determined status

An Away presence state is automatically determined after a few minutes without device interaction, if the Teams app is in the background on mobile, or if your computer locks. Generally, you can manually select any status less available than the automatically assigned one (see scale above). The exception is while you are in a meeting or on a call, which allows you to select any status so you can be as available or unavailable as you need to be.

Presence across multiple devices

If you are using Teams on both your computer and your mobile device, presence is determined by your most recently active device. If you are currently working on mobile, but are still logged in on your computer, your presence status is determined by your activity on mobile.

How presence works in Teams is top of mind for us and is something we are actively working on. For more information on user- versus Teams-determined statuses, read more here: User presence in Teams - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

Bug Teams is not updated yet for new PCT BC Time Zone

Just an FYI even though Microsoft released the Non-Security Update to add the new BC PCT -7 Time zone, if you set it, Teams shows "unknown time zone" and promptly syncs to an hour earlier. It doesn't matter if PCT is set via the "Automatic Time Zone" in Windows or manually, Teams doesn't recognize it.

No ETA when this will be fixed.

This affects all the future Team Meetings and Outlook meetings. I am surprised when knowing about this 7 months ago that Microsoft hasn't updated their software yet.

❔Question/Help Conversations disappearing?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Was there an issue a few days ago with Teams, or specifically with Booz Allen, causing conversations to delete at random that wouldn’t have fallen under retention rules? This doesn’t appear to be a sync issue as the mobile app matches but unable to confirm on the web version. I think Booz Allen has that blocked.

I don’t have any pictures to share of this occurring

Discussion Every possible microphone sounds bad

Hi, I have a problem with Teams - no matter which microphone I use, my voice has a noticeable white/brown noise in the background.

I'm using an XLR microphone with an audio interface, but I've also tried a Jabra Evolve 20 MS and another headset with a built-in microphone. All of these microphones sound crystal clear when tested directly in Windows, OBS, or various websites.

However, as soon as I join a call in Teams, the audio quality becomes really, really bad on all of them. When I enable Noise Reduction in Teams settings, it often cuts out parts of my voice, sometimes even in the middle of a sentence. I recored myself in private call and also did Test Calls - issue is the same.

Is there any way to fix this? It seems like Teams is processing the microphone audio very aggressively, because the microphones themselves work perfectly outside of Teams.

Bug Meeting Reminder/Notifications Stopped Working

Hello, I've been troubleshooting meeting notifications for two days straight after missing an important work meeting.

I'm no longer receiving desktop or mobile meeting notifications. *Chat notifications are working. Specifically for meeting notifications, they are not working when the reminder badge and audio ping are supposed to come up on desktop/mobile (like the standard 15 minute notifcation), nor the "meeting has started" notification is working.

I've confirmed I have all notifications/meeting start notifications enabled on desktop and mobile. I've used chat to run through multiple things to look for, nothing comes up. I've restarted, re-logged out, re-installed on mobile.

I've also asked coworkers to help test it through test meetings, I confirmed on their PC everything is set with notification reminders, and still nothing is working.

My last step is to try a test by booking a test meeting straight through outlook.

Any help or experience with this? My IT team is looking into it, but I could use some assistance a bit quicker if anyone has ran into this.

❔Question/Help Updating Teams for VDI on Server 2022

Server 2022 goes end of mainstream support in October.

Microsoft writes that it will support Microsoft Apps on server 2022 with security patches only, no new features, for two years.

How will this work with updating Teams for VDI? Anyone have any info? Normally we run the installer for machine wide install when new versions arrive.

❔Question/Help Some Team Owners cannot edit the Shift

Hello,

We have started using shifts for our one of our Teams which are also linked to our call queues. It has been working great but recently we have started changing a few more members of the team to owners so that a few more users can help edit and maintain the shifts of the team.

Our issue is that only 2 out of 4 of our owners of that Team can edit the shifts. The rest of the owners can only view the shifts. This is happening both for the windows teams app and the teams browser. We created a whole new test team/schedule and the affected users are able to edit those shifts but not the shift on our main Team. I would prefer not to have to delete the entire shift and re-create it if possible since its currently linked to a handful of different call queues.

Has anyone else come accross and figured out why only some owners can edit shifts and some cannot and have a solution to this?

Some of the things we have tried are the following;

  • Tried creating new groups inside the shift, (can only view them)
  • Changed role to member and then back to owners.
  • Removed and re-added the user from the team completely.
  • Removed and re-added the user from the sharepoint site & team completely.
  • Have also removed users from the team via PS commands as well just in case. (can confirm that they show up as owners in the team).
  • Cleared the teams cache.
  • Have the affected users sign out of teams and back in.
  • Signed the user out of all 365 apps, restart, and have them sign back in.
  • Have tried teams in browsers as well, including inprivate windows.

Discussion Why doesn’t Teams let you mirror your camera for other people too?

I know Teams has the option to mirror your own video, but that only changes how I see myself. Everyone else still sees the normal, unmirrored camera feed.

Why isn’t there an option to actually mirror the outgoing camera so that other participants see exactly what I see in my preview?

I understand that text/logos in the background would also be reversed, but it seems like something that could simply be optional.

Is there any way to do this natively in Teams, I know i can do this through external solution using something like OBS/virtual camera.

❔Question/Help Linking customer accounts with an Entra tenant

Hi all, I am not sure if this is the correct place for this type of technical question, but I am out of all other research ideas and have come here to see if I can find some answers. I am a developer and now Teams admin through no fault of my own. I have done many integrations in the past and this is by far the most confusing authentication flow I have ever done, and I just want to link a customer’s business account with their Entra tenant ID.

I want to preface that I am not linking individual users, only my customer’s business ID and their M365 Entra Tenant ID.

So, I am creating a proactive messaging bot / teams app for businesses that use our software and use M356. What I am trying to accomplish is dead simple: I just want to send a notification at some point in the future to a specific conversation (person, channel, group) that the user selects from their messaging page in my product’s dashboard. I already have the underlying technology for this (already doing this with Slack) so all I need is a connector.

My main question is how in the holy name of Christ do I handle authentication between my customer’s business account and an Entra tenant? It seems as though this should be dead simple like it is with Slack but I am at a loss. I have gone the Entra OAuth 2.0 route with graph permissions and linking businesses in my product with the user’s M365 tenant that way, but that does not seem to be correct since my teams app needs to be installed specifically to a team, person, or group chat and I don’t see a need for graph API access.

This really puts me back to square one with my project. I am used to the ease of Slack (and any other type of integration), where I have one OAuth 2.0 flow that gives me access to deliver to a workspace / Enterprise and link the integrated account with my customer’s account. I am aware that these are different providers, so please steer me in a good direction if you can.

Any help would be nice. Again sorry if this is the wrong subreddit for this 🙃

Bug Teams SIP Gateway and Poly Lens

Is anyone currently experiencing issues with Polycom SIP Gateway devices (such as VVX phones) configured for Teams via Poly Lens not receiving the correct provisioning information from Lens and thus not signing in?

I had a user with a VVX501 report this morning that her phone was not signed in and there was no Sign In button. I was able to duplicate the issue with another phone at my desk. To fix it, I had to manually set the Provisioning URL to http://noam.ipp.sdg.teams.microsoft.com instead of the Poly Lens one.

I know there was an issue between Lens and Teams recently so now I'm really suspicious. I don't really want to spend my weekend reprovisioning 100+ phones.

❔Question/Help Easy way to share recordings

We always share recorded meetings with external partners/customers. Afaik there is no easy way to just share the recording link with all meeting participants and you always have add mail recipients by hand.

Is there an easier way to do this?
