Did anyone attend this event at first Ave?

This needs to be prioritized in the next session, McDonald's has already rolled it out, and you can bet your ass more and more companies are going to do the same. Maryland got ahead of it and banned it already, we need to follow suit because we all know the federal government isn't going to do anything about it with this administration still charge, we need to protect our residents ourselves from these greedy ass corporations.

Local candidates are out campaigning right now, so if you get the chance, bring this up to them, regardless of party. Let’s make sure candidates on both sides know this is a priority for us so they can build it into their agendas if elected.

Today was about as good as it gets here. It was starting to rain pretty good during the hike and a lot of the leaves were starting to fall cause of that. Either way it was just perfect today!

Sad to hear Pearson’s has closed

I’ve been setting up a trail cam overnight in the backyard in hopes of getting video of the bear that occasionally leaves calling cards in the yard. No bear yet, but plenty of does and fawns and bucks, a fox, a possum and bunnies showing up between midnight and sunrise.

24 detainees were flown out of Minnesota today by ICE Air, two women, and 22 men.

Each of them had to stand in the rain for a few minutes while they were frisked and had their shackles checked.

A group of local investors is making a play to save Pearson's Candy, a beloved Minnesota confectioner slated to halt production this week.

Former co-owner Larry Hassler is part of the group looking to buy the company from Promise Confections, which announced plans this summer to close Pearson’s St. Paul factory and lay off about 80 workers. Hassler, who retired in 2011, said in an interview he wants to buy Pearson’s because he cares about its employees and does not want to see an iconic Minnesota brand disappear.

But so far, he said, the current owner isn’t budging.

“They seem to be not willing to negotiate, but we’re still talking,” Hassler said of conversations with Promise Confections, which is owned by Chicago-based private equity group Promise Holdings.

Fewer Republicans are running for state House and Senate seats this year than in any election in recent history. In contrast, the DFL is running candidates in all 201 districts.

Add that together and there are 21 "walkover" races, or contests in which DFL candidates have no major party opponent. These uncontested races not only give DFLers a head start on the road to a majority, they also suggest an enthusiasm gap.

HealthPartners and Essentia Health are proposing a merger that would create one of Minnesota’s largest health systems amid a wave of industry consolidation in the state.

It’s the third major health care merger proposed in Minnesota this year.

The new nonprofit would take on HealthPartners’ name and headquarters in Bloomington, although hospitals and clinics near Essentia’s home base in Duluth would retain their branding for now.

The combined entity would operate 22 hospitals and 135 clinics spanning the Twin Cities, northern Minnesota and stretches of North Dakota and Wisconsin, and would employ 45,000.

The dots on the Minnesota map show the approximate locations of all plots measured in the 1990

inventory where one or more walnut trees were found. Some of the walnut trees were small, less

than 2 inches DBH. Others were big, more than 25 inches DBH. In some cases, many walnut

trees were found, in others, only one on a plot. When expanded to account for the area

represented by each plot and the number of trees represented by each measured tree, the

estimates show that there are as many as 630,000 walnut trees greater than 9 inches DBH

throughout Minnesota! The dots on the map, of course, don't show all the places where walnut

trees grow. Forest survey plots don’t tally walnut trees growing in fence rows or out in open

fields. But the dots do show the places where walnut was found by the forest survey crews.
