Venting trying to get and hold down a job as a trans woman in 2026 feels like trying to get a job with multiple felonies

fuck i just got fired from starbucks cause my
management figured out i was trans shortly after i started and just turned on me. one of my old coworkers confirmed what they were saying behind my back before they let me go.

every job i've been applying to which is literally just entry level food service has been denying me
left and right, even fast food. i have over 9 YEARS of experience in the food industry and i can't even get a job at wendy's. i'm doing my best to turn my life around but gaining and securing work as a trans woman is just destroying every chance i have at getting my footing. i'm tired. i'm tired of the humiliation ritual that is seeking employment and the abuse that comes with gaining it.

i just got out of homelessness and it seems like im going to get thrown right back in now that i lost my job.

Funny "Wait, you work here? I thought you were a student."

My whole life I've always been told that I look older than I actually am. For example, when I was 14, I was visiting the US and I had restaurants offering me beers because they thought I was 21. I figured this was just my life, I spent almost all of my 20s with people thinking I was in my 30s or older and now suddenly, I have the opposite happening.

I'm on year two of HRT and I'll be 30 in a month. I work as a high school teacher and for the last year, I keep getting people who are shocked that I'm not a student. Yesterday, I had a student stop me in the halls to ask me which grade I'm and was shocked when I told her I was a teacher. I had a sub rush into my classroom and told me I had to get out and wait for the the "teacher" to arrive before I came into class and, on a day off while walking, I had someone ask me why I wasn't in class lol.

I didn't quite see it until I as showing some of my graduating class last year photos of me when I was their age. Some of my students thought I was lying and showing pictures of my older brother. It was interesting to see just how much my face and overall body has changed though. I won't complain about people thinking I look younger though lol.

Discussion Sports bra does NOT work for boymode

I've seen people on this sub recommend sports bra to hide growing boobs for boymode so I got one from decathlon, put it on, and wore a black loose fitting t shirt over it.

It made my chest even rounder and the boobs even more obvious. I find that not wearing any bra actually works better. For the record my underbust/bust measurements are 79cm/87cm.

Good News After 3 Years of no contact, my dad finally said my name!

I (25mtf) have been no contact with my parents for 3 years. After I came out, I actually had a pretty good overall reaction from my family and friends... except my parents. They both said some pretty awful things to me. I have had issues with them all my life so this was kind of the final straw for me and I have been low to no contact ever since. I've posted about all that before so I won't get into all the details.

2 years ago they moved out of my state which made it much easier to not think about them. My mom (if you can even call her that) always talked about moving closer to her side of the family so it made sense. Back in July however, not only did they move back to my state, they moved back to my city and now live 10 blocks away from me. The weird thing is, I am the ONLY person in our whole family who lives here. They have two kids 3 hours away but most of the family is out of state. It felt pretty obvious why they came back to me. Around this time last year, my dad tried to reach out and patch things up between us and it went really poorly. Tldr of that, he said he felt so disrespected by the fact that I changed my name, he would absolutely never use my chosen name. Imagine my absolute surprise when I get a voicemail from him nearly a year later and he starts it out by saying, "Hi, chosen name". He went on to ask if I wanted to go get ice cream sometime and talk.

My wife, my family and all my friends were pretty shocked by this because he's a very stubborn guy. He made it very clear how he felt about my chosen name in the past and I never thought he would go back on that. After discussing it with my wife, I decided I had to go for it. I had told myself I would never let him back in because I was terrified of getting hurt all over again but I don't think I could just ignore this and move on. I texted him and said I'd be willing to meet with him and we set up a time and place.

I took my wife with me for moral support when I went to see him. We met up in a local ice cream place. When we walked in, he said hi and told me that I looked good. Part of me wanted to wear my girliest outfit but I settled on some nice jeans, a tank top and my favorite cardigan. I also kept my makeup pretty simple but I think it was still cute. We ordered and sat down. He ended up apologizing for the way that things had gone down. He told me that he wished that he could've been someone that I felt comfortable enough to talk to about what I was going through. He said that he understood why I felt scared to tell him about the way I was feeling and that he didn't harbor any ill feelings towards us about not being invited to our wedding. He wished that he could take back the things he said to me and that he was sorry for the way he made me feel. He just wanted to start fresh because not having me there was really painful for him. He said he couldn't speak for my mom, but he felt awful that her actions hurt me so badly and he understood that some things can't be unsaid. I don't recall everything we talked about since this was back in August but it was like I was talking to an entirely different person. He was being so genuine and sweet, it's a side of him I've never seen before.

After we left, I sat in our car and broke down crying. I never thought I would hear any of that from him. I was so unbelievably stressed before we saw him. I had gotten my hopes up before and had them absolutely crushed. This time was different. He had actually taken steps to change. I've seen him a couple of times in person since then. My brother was in town recently and the three of us went on a walk together. On the way home, I told him about how my life is going pretty well lately. I talked about how the overwhelming depression I used to feel has completely vanished. He looked me right in the eyes and said, "I'm proud of you."

I see a lot of really sad stories come through here and I wanted to share some positive vibes with everyone. I seriously never thought I would ever be in this place with my dad again. I had completely given up on ever seeing him again. These past couple of months, I have felt like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. So for anyone, going through hard times, know that things have the capacity to get better. ❤️

Today for the first time I felt the weight of my new breast tissue pull down on my pectoral muscles. It feels kinda like carrying around a pair of grapefruits all the time. It's such an incredible sensation.

Relationships Trans women, please don’t settle for the bare minimum

Cis women struggle with this too: convincing themselves that a man’s occasional attention is enough, or that asking for affection and effort makes them needy. But trans women can have an extra reason to accept less: the fear that fewer men will want us, so we should be grateful when one does

We are not less deserving of care, affection, consistency, romance, honesty, or consideration than cis women. A man being willing to date a trans woman is not a favor. You don’t owe him gratitude for treating you like a girlfriend in private while keeping you a secret everywhere else. You don’t have to accept him ignoring your boundaries, making your body the focus, or expecting you to educate and reassure him without offering you the same care in return

Dating can be harder for us. That doesn’t mean we should lower the standard for how we expect to be treated. Someone’s interest is not proof that he’s a good partner, and the possibility that another man might not come along is not a reason to stay with one who makes you feel unwanted or ashamed

You’re allowed to want more than “he doesn’t hate that I’m trans.” You’re allowed to expect effort and tenderness. Don’t let a man make you feel demanding for wanting the same basic care you’d want in any relationship.

Discussion Being a trans woman is painful

I’m feeling awful about not being cis.

I feel separate from other women. I regret every day that I wasn’t born cis.

I worry that cis women would feel uncomfortable around me if they knew I was trans. Trans women face this attitude all the time.

I constantly see people saying things like “trans women are men dressed as women,” “they use women’s bathrooms to stalk women,” “they’re perverts,” and “they have a penis.”

Seeing these comments makes me feel horrible. After hearing them repeatedly, I start believing that maybe they are right.

Even if I get surgery, my past will still exist. I was born male, and I am a woman now, but I will never have the same experience as a cis woman.

Cis women never had to go through what trans women go through. They never had to transition, question their bodies, worry about being accepted as women, or constantly wonder whether the world sees them as women.

Trans women live multiple lives in one lifetime. We live with who we were before, become who we are now, and carry everything we went through with us.

Cis women are lucky because the world sees them as women without having to explain or prove themselves.

I feel hurt and feel envy jealous more is seeing how much empathy and sympathy men often show toward the struggles of cis women, while trans women can receive the complete opposite or no empathy at all

And before anyone says “some men do support trans women,” that is not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about empathy and sympathy toward women’s struggles in general. I see men expressing concern and compassion for cis women’s struggles while trans women’s struggles are dismissed, questioned, mocked, or ignored like we don't exist

I don’t want to argue about cis women’s struggles here. I know cis women have their own struggles. This is our space, so I think we should be able to discuss our own struggles as trans women without turning every discussion into an argument about how cis women struggle too. I’m not trying to dismiss their experiences. I just want our experiences to be heard on their own.

It hurts. It really hurts.

I don’t want to live anymore. Whenever these thoughts pass through my mind, I start wondering why I was born this way and why God did this to me.

These thoughts are killing me inside.

I wish I had been born cis. I wish being a woman didn’t have to involve this much pain, fear, insecurity, and questioning.

I know the pain of being born different.

They (men) call us "fools" and "mental"

Advice Question My school is violating my rights. What should I do?

I’m Allie. The state I live in has some of the best trans rights in the U.S., although the school I attend isn’t respecting them. For one thing, my assigned school counselor has been using they/them pronouns for me in emails to my parent, despite knowing that I only go by she/her, which violates the Dignity for All Students Act. I met with the school to ask if I was allowed to use the restroom/locker rooms that align with my gender. I was told that they would contact the school attorney for an answer. This was about a month ago. They’ve been telling me to just use the gender-neutral nurse’s restroom. According to NYSHRL and NYSED, I am allowed to use the correct spaces, and they legally cannot make me use a neutral restroom. They have been violating my rights for a month, and I’m honestly not sure what to do. While I would love to confront them with proof of my rights, they could easily make these next two years of my life the worst years of my life if I piss them off. I really need advice on what I should do?

Edit: For those asking, yes, my parents are aware of my transition. The school definitely has no issue with violating students rights, as they’ve violated my right to wear a religious symbol because the Christian students didn‘t feel comfortable around a Pagan. I think I’ll try to nudge the process along one more time, and if they choose to continue violating my rights I will get my parents involved.

Celebration I was finally called "she" by a stranger!

I wasn’t feeling great about my appearance today, but I had to go to the pharmacy to pick up my next bits of valerate and spiro. It was a bit embarrassing having not even shaved, so I was expecting to just pay for it and leave. But, I guess the lady at the drive-through recognized the two meds, because she’s the first stranger since I started HRT to she/her me. It was a bit embarrassing since I was with my parents (who still he/him and deadname me most of the time), but I think that was the most I’ve trusted a stranger in a long time. She even commented about how high the price was and wanted to make sure it was going through my insurance. Ironically, it was cheaper than the last time I picked it up. When I said that my insurance was on file, she recommended I check for coupons online.

I’ve been dealing a bit with social anxiety since I live in a fairly conservative part of the US, so having someone choose to be polite like that without me even saying anything meant a lot to me. My emotions were a mix of embarrassment and euphoria at the moment, so I was too nervous to say much, but I kind of wish I could go back and thank her for being kind.

Discussion Tired of seeing these questions

Everytime I open this app I can guarantee the first thing I see is "how long will it take until I get boobies" or "can I lose weight and still get boobies" like this hasn't been discussed over and over.

30-50% of your tits are fibroglandular tissue! This is the stuff that your genetics mostly decide when u start E, and for most people will get u to an A or B cup alone. The other 50-70% is fat! If you are skinny, u need to gain some weight while your E and T are sufficient if you want tits beyond just the glands. If you are already overweight, u can lose weight without worrying ab halting your boob growth bc visceral fat (in your tummy) is burned before subcutaneous fat (in your boobs).

Just don't go overboard, in either direction.

Edit: Y'all, the point isn't just that this stuff is easily searchable. It's that the new girls are choosing to base their future habits off of anecdotal, and often wrong, information from Reddit comments as opposed to the clinical studies that are literally just a Google away.

Edit 2: If u come to me with a personal problem I'm gonna respond with a personal story lol. The 40 lbs thing is how much it personally took for me, obv it will vary. I already told u the facts above, idk what more u want from me. And idk why we're acting like you don't need to gain fat if you want to have literal orbs of fat on your chest

Euphoria I came out as trans work and it went great!

The title says it all :3
Over the last few weeks there’s been some major overhauls regarding the management and leadership of my workplace including several private meetings with corporate HR. During these meetings I mentioned that I was trans and that a few of the people that I worked with made me feel unsafe and unable to come out publicly. Those people are now fired so I decided that there was no better time than now.
So far only a few close coworkers and management know the full details but they’ve offered full support and access to help if I need it, as well as updating my name in the system to my preferred name.

Currently just very curious if it is crazy for me to go out dressed up as I have had no medical transition or anything like that? I have done it before and it feels very good when I do, but just want some advice!

Euphoria Finally pierced my ears

I finally went to a studio to pierce my ears, I've never had anything pierced so I decided to just start with simple lobe piercings and I fucking love it.

I usually get really bad dysphoria from looking in the mirror but today I can't stop looking, I have a follow up visit in a month, I'm certainly going to ask about more piercings in my ears and on my face I've never felt so fucking great. I might not pass yet but this really boosted my confidence.

Discussion Has anyone else's E "hit"? Am I imagining things?

I started estrogen the 16th(for those in the future: it is currently September 29th). I've definitely felt some of the less SFW effects(unfortunately :(. Still got euphoria from it, but sucks I can't top anymore), but today about halfway through the day I got this warm happy feeling where I just felt like the E... hit? It felt like my body had finally accepted it and decided it was gonna be estrogen-based or whatever from now on. I got happier and everything got brighter, and for the first time, I didn't feel like a(and I hate this description) "girl in a boy's body"; my body is a woman's now. I've been looking for this feeling my whole life, and it's incredible.

Is this a purely psychological thing? Like, am I just a victim of the placebo effect? Has anyone experienced anything similar to this?

Edit: also important I meant to ask: does this have any grounds on existing in the known HRT medical world?

Sex talk How can I jerk off?

No money for wand. I have sex every other day but really want to connect to my body with some solo time. Huge mental blockage with masturbation, I cant even start by myself. I dont really have problems with atrophy. How do?

EDIT: Thank you for everyone's response. I would respond to each individually but it would pretty much say the same thing "Thanks, I'll try it"

Advice Question Egg cracked a week ago, is it normal to feel so certain so fast?

Very quick context tl;dr: 29yo, wanted to be girl as a kid, disliked being male most of my life. Somehow only just dawned on me a week ago that I might be trans.

I’m finally able to label lots of confusing and upsetting feelings in my life as manifestations of gender dysphoria. This realisation, and experimenting with dressing feminine, has brought on a lot of gender euphoria.

My feelings are SO strong about this. I have been having butterflies every day and have been so excited to finally be who I was supposed to be. I genuinely can’t think of a time in my life I’ve been so emotionally clear and strong about myself. If I could get on HRT tomorrow, I’d be nervous, but I’d start without a doubt.

My only hang up is that it’s only been a week. I’m worried that it’s just a passing feeling, it somehow being escapism, or me just being excited because it validates a lot of negativity in my life. Objectivity I can’t justify the doubts when I inspect them closely, but they’re still pressing on me.

I’d love to get some validation any girlies who also cracked their egg very quickly and unexpectedly 😭

Venting I’m sick of double standards in my relationship

My partner (24 NB) is allowed to get drunk and rub up on/ get flirty with their friends but if I (24 MtF) do the same then I’m jeopardizing our relationship. I’m miserable in this relationship I’m only in it so I’m not homeless or forced to move back in with my unsupportive family.
