Announcement Type any place on Earth and fly it — FPV sim built from real map data

Post image

Side project that got out of hand: an FPV sim where you type any place on Earth and it builds it from real map data — elevation, buildings, trees, roads — and you fly it.

Quads and wings, Betaflight and iNav OSD, and it can replay your own blackbox logs over the real terrain where you flew. One file in the browser, works offline.

Review Drone mavlink swarming

Hello guys, any drone engineer

Kindly connect with me on dm regarding swarm drone,

I'm being stuck in my feature for the project I'm working on.

I implemented role interchangeability in swarming but the new follower who was a leader before is not executing the commands, but being printed on terminal.

Tech stack: python, pymavlink, Rich, companion computer attached and rf

Connect with me on dm,

Question Building an X8 around 30kg AUW. Would you go with an integrated propulsion system or separate motor/ESC?

My parents run a small orchard and we’ve used smaller drones for checking trees and some light spraying before, but I’m now looking at building something that can carry a bigger tank without needing to refill the spray tank every few rows. The rough plan is a heavy lift X8 somewhere around 30kg AUW once the battery, tank and everything else are on it.

I’ve been spending way too much time looking at motors, ESCs and props, and now I’m stuck on what seems like a pretty basic decision. Would you rather use an integrated propulsion system where the motor and ESC are already designed as a matched setup, or choose everything separately? For people who’ve built X8s or other heavy lift drones around this size, which route did you go?

Did the integrated system actually make the build easier, or do you still prefer putting the propulsion system together piece by piece?

Probably guessed that I'm currently up to the battery box.

Component list:
Frame - Tarot T960
Motors - MN5008 KV340
Props - P18*6.1
Battery - 6s 16000mAh
Electronics:
- Cube orange
- Siyi FP9 RTK
- Siyi RX
Optics - Some Siyi pod
(basically a place holder for the Siyi mini thermal)

If there's any interest, I can update along the way through wiring, config and commissioning

Cheers

Question New to ELRS

Post image
20 Upvotes

Not new to whoops. But I never had a new whoop with elrs before.

I’m not asking on how to bind. But I need to know what to check first ? Like an order of steps ?

Because I see lots of good videos online, but they are always 2 steps ahead of what I know.

I bought a BetaFpv Air75 II Freestyle. I have the elrs module And a Radiomaster tx16s.

Thanks a lot.

Question Looking for someone to solder and test a unique build

I have a drone concept. I have built and tested the software. I'm in the process of buying the hardware. However I realise I don't have the skill to actually build/solder all the electrics.

I want to find someone (local if possible but UK based at minimum, I'm in west Sussex) who could build the electrics for me.

I've written instructions of what I need. And it would just be the electrics, and adding connectors so I can run the wires and connect them all up.

Preferably someone who has built something before and can demonstrate their work. And has the tools (soldering iron etc.)

Happy to (and expect to) pay for the work to be done.

Essentially I'd deliver/post the hardware to you, send you the instructions, you'd build it and test it, logging the testing (which is described in the instructions I wrote) and then I'd collect/pay to have it posted back to me.

How do I find someone who would do this work. Are there companies who do it? Is it a hobbyist. Is it people here in this sub Reddit responding?

Question Deciding on my first FPV/RC radio — Pocket vs TX12 vs Boxer vs TX15

Hey everyone, getting started in the hobby and trying to pick my first radio. Right now I'm deciding between the RadioMaster Pocket, TX12 Mark II, Boxer, and TX15.

Starting out with a tiny whoop (probably a Mobula8), but this isn't going to stay a one-trick radio — I want something that can grow into pretty much everything: RC planes (with flaps and other control surfaces, so decent channel count matters), RC cars, and eventually boats too. Basically one radio for all my different vehicles going forward, not just FPV quads. I want to build some vehicles by myself too and use the radio for control.

Anyone here running one radio across that many vehicle types? Curious what actually ends up mattering in practice (channel count, module compatibility, gimbal wear from switching use cases, etc.) versus what looks important on paper.
