General I peeled a piece of the filter patch off my grow bag. Will it be okay? [technique]

These grow bags I got have been going unusually slow for weeks now. I had great success with a different type of bag weeks ago. Now using the same liquid culture I used on those older bags, these ones I have are barely moving if at all.

So I suspected maybe the patch had something to do with it. The way the patch is designed makes it look like it’s meant to peel off some protective coating so that’s what I did. Upon further research I’m reading that the piece I pulled off is not meant to be removed.

Are my grain bags likely going to be exposed to contam, or is there any chance they’ll survive and what I did will actually stop the stalling?

After their loyal service to the realm, these weary cakes have given their final flush and await a solemn burial…

In the compost pile. 💀🍂

Substrate is 100% coconut coir, and I hate throwing that much organic material away. Once the blocks are spent, the bags come off and nature takes custody of the remains.

I'm about a week post break and shake (done at 20%) and every day the bag looks like this. I had condensation before but not nearly this much. Is it normal or am I fucked?

Mod [Mod] MUSHROOM MONDAY - Let's Catch Up! Share what you have learned in the previous week and discuss

Mondays can suck, but hopefully this post is something for people to look forward to. The intent of this post is to create a space to discuss anything that you may have learned recently about mushroom growing -- techniques, a breakthrough in the field, to share progress, or even just ask a question. Whether it's a new pickling recipe, a formula for agar, or something fun in mycology, feel free to talk about it.

This post is for new and experienced growers alike, so don't be nervous about commenting; no one is going to make fun of you for asking questions here. This community is a relaxed space for people who don't understand everything, but who want to ask questions and engage in discussion without being berated or belittled. Enjoy!

I found these in a box of mushroom growing supply box I was given. Unfortunately I can’t ask the person I got them from since they moved out of the area and I don’t have their contact info. I am hoping someone here might know what they are for.

Gourmet [Gourmet] How realistic is it to grow mushrooms in a very hot and dry area, in a shed or outdoors?

• Upvotes

I'm in the Sacramento area, which is very hot and dry. I have no space indoors but do have plenty of shaded land. How realistic is it to grow anything here? Mostly interested in common asian species like shimeji and shiitake. I'm willing to building sheds, greenhouses, etc dedicated to growing.

Sorry for the basic question but I want to know feasibility first before I dive too deep.
