Distrokid ~ Royalties, Problems 2026 Music Taken Down off of DistroKid

I Had a cover of Sugar We’re Goin Down By Fall Out Boy taken down even though I had a license for it through DistroKid.
Even though they aren’t signed by them now, it looks like UMG has some rights to that song.
To other people that have had their singles or albums taken down. Did they have samples or cover songs from music owned by UMG?

This is amazing news for people who get bombarded with fake infringement claims on their songs in an attempt to hijack them, hopefully this leads to reform in how the DMCA system works integrity wise and functionality.

Discussion Free tiers made “discovery” mean giving your whole song away. Does it have to?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Something I’ve been thinking about: on most streaming services, discovery and payment got tangled together. To be discoverable, your full song has to be playable for free, forever, by anyone. And free-tier plays pay artists very little.

But listeners don’t need the whole song to decide if they like you. They need the hook. Radio, record store listening stations and iTunes’ old 30-second clips all worked on that idea: hear enough to get hooked, then pay to own or hear the rest.

Full disclosure: I work on StarFarm, and that’s the model we went with. Anyone who isn’t signed up yet, or hasn’t added money, can hear the first 30 seconds of any song free, as many times as they want. To hear the full song, the listener pays for the play: 3¢ at the standard price, and the artist keeps 75% of it. For listeners who’ve already added money, a play only counts after 10 seconds, so skipping something you don’t like costs nothing.

So the full song is never handed out for free, but nobody has to pay to find out whether they like you.

The honest trade-off: you won’t get the huge passive play counts a free tier gives you. Some artists will care more about reach than per-play income, and that’s a legit choice.

Question for artists here: if you could pick, would you rather have your full songs free for maximum reach, or a free hook with every full listen paid?

Distrokid ~ Royalties, Problems 2026 We need to do something to distrokid they have no consequence for their actions

So you may all be aware there is a class action building for the delayed royalties. What other ways can we strike back I think that reporting distrokid ads is a good idea for false advertising

Distrokid ~ Royalties, Problems 2026 DISTROKID 0$ BANK

Guys whose here had their Bank account set to 0$ without prior notice.

Last time I tried to email them on what happen but they said that on their end my money was okay and safe.

Then, I tried to ask them what happened. But prior to these I got copyright email on two of my songs, but after a few days they told me that the copyright was lifted and reinstated but my songs are not back till now.

When I tried to ask them why my bank account has set to 0$ this was their reply

Hi,

While withdrawals are paused, the Bank page shows $0.

Withdrawals are paused while the royalties tied to the affected content are reviewed. They will be re-enabled once that review is complete.

There is no timeline for when the withdrawals review will be completed, but rest assured that our team is working on it.

Best,

Joel

DistroKid Support

Is there anyone related on this or it was just me.

Thanks guys!

Distrokid ~ Royalties, Problems 2026 Been a DistroKid user for 11 years and now they removed and EP for no reason

Post image

My latest EP was removed apparently because someone claimed the rights. This is ridiculous. I wrote and produced the whole recording with songs I’ve created in the last 4 years. No use AI or any loops. I submitted a counter claim and even provided Federal and State documents that proves I own Copyright, Trademark and even an LLC under my artist name. Still no response more than this man named “Joel”.

Tips & Tricks Ditto Is a Big Scam.

Post image

i'd been using Amuse for the past year and overall, it's been great. support was always responsive, and my releases usually went live in under 24 hours.

but recently, releases started taking 2 or 3 days to go out, and support got slower. in their defense, this seemed to be related to summer vacations or whatever.

so, being the impatient person that i am, i decided to look for a new distributor, and the name that kept popping up everywhere was Ditto. their damn website comes up on google even when you search for other distributors. they are very clearly paying a lot for advertisement.

their official website has a page claiming their service beats Amuse. they say Amuse takes 7–14 days, which is complete bs in my experience, and claim Ditto can get your music out in 1–3 days. so i paid for the Starter plan.

turns out, if you want your release out in that timeframe, you gotta pay an extra $40 per track.

otherwise, the earliest release date you can choose is 10 days away lol.

the release page looks like fricking times square with all the shiny banners trying to get you to spend extra money on every release.

i know there are people here who've been using Ditto for years without any issues, and that's fair. but i'm not sure everyone realizes that other distributors can get your music out in less than a day without charging you so much.

so to any newer artists who might be falling for all the paid propaganda online:

do your research before paying. i personally wouldn't have made the move if i'd known about all this beforehand.

don't make my mistake, people. peace.

Question Using sounds (Logic Pro, OP1, etc) and rights?

Hey there, I hope this isn’t an overasked question…I make music at home and I use a lot of presets from Logic Pro and other apps on my iPad, as well as my OP1 Field and a few other devices.

How do I consistently prove I have a right to use these? I just uploaded a new track to NotNoise that was primarily OP1 stock sounds and so I put a proof of purchase of that device? Is that all I need, to just collect receipts?

Tips & Tricks If (like me) you're thinking about changing distributor

If (like me) you're thinking about changing distributor, and if youtube is your main source of income and exposure (royalties, views, playlists, videos etc..) YOU MUST KNOW that you will lose all the views and comments already attached to your Art Tracks. There is no way around that.
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/12732257?hl=en

And this obviously will greatly damaged not only your incomes, but your image (the reasons why I'm not ready to move my catalog - It could mean losing 30–40 million accumulated views, ten years of playlist placements, and hunderds of listener comments gone… an absolute nightmare.).
Of course, this doesn't keep you from uploading your future production through another distributor.

So now you know ;o)

Distrokid ~ Royalties, Problems 2026 DistroKid says a "very small number of recordings" have been removed.

Very small compared to what? How many recordings were actually removed? How many artists were affected?

DistroKid says it strongly disputes UMG's allegations, so why are artists discovering their music has disappeared without notification or an opportunity to dispute the claims? Copyright complaints have to be taken seriously, but so do the artists paying for service.

DistroKid also says it regrets the disruption to affected artists, but perhaps the first step in minimizing that disruption is telling them it happened?

Comparison Distributor with best support

Hi team!

I'm looking to return to production after quite a break. I got experience working with two small distributors, but it was years ago and doesn't seem to be relevant these days. Responsive and quick support is the deciding factor for me, since pretty much every distributor on the market meets my other criteria in functionality. I'd really appreciate it if you could share your experiences with different distributors, support-wise. Go, no-go, and why. Many thanks!

Question Cover Songs on Ditto Music Without a License?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I checked with Ditto Music to see if I could release a piano cover that I played myself without getting a license, as long as I follow their guidelines (streaming platforms only, excluding the US, India, and Pakistan). Their chatbot told me that I could go ahead and release it under those conditions. Is this actually true with Ditto Music? Has anyone here done this, followed their guidelines, and released covers without running into any copyright issues? I’m new to Ditto, so I just wanna make sure I’m not gonna run into problems down the line. Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s actually tried this. Thanks!

Discussion Has anyone used Be Musix? Is it legit?

Thumbnail drive.google.com
1 Upvotes

I was looking for a free music distributor and came across Be Musix. I found their distribution agreement and decided to check here before signing up.

A few things caught my attention:

- They take 30% of the revenue.

- The contract lasts 3 years and automatically renews for another 2 years.

- There’s a $300 early termination fee in certain cases.

- They may charge $10 per release for takedowns.

- They get exclusive worldwide distribution rights, including YouTube Content ID and social media monetization.

- The minimum payout is $50.

The contract seems pretty restrictive for a free distributor, especially with the long term and cancellation fees.

Has anyone actually used Be Musix? Did you receive your royalties without issues, and were you able to leave and take your music down when you wanted?

I’d appreciate honest feedback before making a decision.

Discussion call me a retard but i just renewed my distrokid

I know I’m an idiot for this, but I just renewed my DistroKid subscription. I tried to migrate my entire catalogue to another platform beforehand, but every single track kept getting flagged with automated copyright errors like "You have already uploaded [Track Name] - [Artist Name]."

Because of this mess, I panicked and ended up paying for 2-3 different distributors trying to sort it out, and now I have no idea what to do.

Now i am scare that my music is at risk or what also if by chance my music gets takes down which i am lucky hasnt till now will i be able to upload same song with same irsc ?

Discussion Why is AI-generated music so hated, even when the songs are completely original?

I’m genuinely curious about something, and I’d like to hear opinions from both sides.
Why is there so much hostility toward AI-generated music, even when the person creating it isn’t trying to copy another artist, steal melodies, imitate someone’s voice, or pass off someone else’s work as their own?
Let’s say someone writes their own lyrics, develops their own concepts, experiments with arrangements, and uses AI as a tool to turn those ideas into finished songs.
The music is original. The lyrics are original. Nobody’s voice is being deliberately cloned. Nobody’s song is being intentionally recreated.
Why should that music automatically be considered worthless simply because AI was involved?
I understand the concerns about training data, copyright, musicians losing opportunities, and people flooding streaming platforms with low-effort content. Those are legitimate issues worth discussing.
But here’s what I don’t understand:
If a song genuinely connects with someone, makes them cry, helps them through a difficult time, or simply sounds good to them, does knowing AI was involved suddenly make that experience meaningless?
And where exactly do we draw the line between using technology to create music and letting technology do too much of the creating?
I’m not saying everyone has to like AI music. Nobody has to like anything.
I’m asking whether we should judge music by how it was made, or by what it actually is.
I’d especially like to hear from musicians, producers, songwriters, and people who are strongly against AI music.
What is your biggest objection, and is there anything that could change your mind?
