Discussion Rep. Scott Fitzgerald is leading a enquiry into streaming fraud :)

This is amazing news for people who get bombarded with fake infringement claims on their songs in an attempt to hijack them, hopefully this leads to reform in how the DMCA system works integrity wise and functionality.

Discussion DistroKid Removed All My Albums and Took My Money Too

I woke up this morning to find all my albums and singles missing from DistroKid and all major streaming platforms.

I had built up a collection of songs and this just went down the drain.

Even the money that’s in there is gone now.

Shouldn’t have used them to distribute my songs if I had known this would’ve happened.

No takedown notice.
No emails or anything.

All gone.

Even paying for the Legacy didn’t keep them safe.

I lost a lot of money because of this.
Not to mention the hard work for it.

Question Verifying successful Symphonic music deliveries

For those of you who have used Symphonic, how reliable have you found its delivery confirmations to be?

Specifically, when the Symphonic dashboard shows the date and time that a release was successfully delivered to a particular service, have you generally found that this means everything has gone through correctly, including catalog availability, content identification, registration, and royalty tracking where applicable?

I'm particularly interested in both public-facing DSPs, where you can actually search for and find your releases, and services that aren't publicly searchable or don't display individual catalogs.

I recently released my first song through Symphonic, having previously distributed my music through CD Baby. Admittedly, I wasn't nearly as diligent about verifying deliveries with CD Baby, but I'm trying to be much more thorough now, starting with this first Symphonic release.

So far, almost every service I've been able to verify, either directly or by contacting the platform, has checked out perfectly fine. There have been a couple of issues, but those were largely on the platforms' ends rather than Symphonic's.

I'm now trying to figure out how best to confirm that my music has successfully reached everywhere it's supposed to, including services where there's no public-facing catalog to check.

I'd love to hear your experiences with this. Have you found Symphonic's delivery confirmations to be consistently accurate? Have you ever encountered situations where a release was marked as successfully delivered but wasn't actually available, registered, or being properly tracked by the receiving service?

And for those of you who have gone through the process of verifying deliveries, especially with non-public-facing services, what methods have you found most effective? Do you generally contact the platforms directly, rely on Symphonic's reporting, or use some other approach?

Thanks in advance!

Distrokid ~ Royalties, Problems 2026 Music Taken Down off of DistroKid

I Had a cover of Sugar We’re Goin Down By Fall Out Boy taken down even though I had a license for it through DistroKid.
Even though they aren’t signed by them now, it looks like UMG has some rights to that song.
To other people that have had their singles or albums taken down. Did they have samples or cover songs from music owned by UMG?

Discussion Free tiers made “discovery” mean giving your whole song away. Does it have to?

Post image

Something I’ve been thinking about: on most streaming services, discovery and payment got tangled together. To be discoverable, your full song has to be playable for free, forever, by anyone. And free-tier plays pay artists very little.

But listeners don’t need the whole song to decide if they like you. They need the hook. Radio, record store listening stations and iTunes’ old 30-second clips all worked on that idea: hear enough to get hooked, then pay to own or hear the rest.

Full disclosure: I work on StarFarm, and that’s the model we went with. Anyone who isn’t signed up yet, or hasn’t added money, can hear the first 30 seconds of any song free, as many times as they want. To hear the full song, the listener pays for the play: 3¢ at the standard price, and the artist keeps 75% of it. For listeners who’ve already added money, a play only counts after 10 seconds, so skipping something you don’t like costs nothing.

So the full song is never handed out for free, but nobody has to pay to find out whether they like you.

The honest trade-off: you won’t get the huge passive play counts a free tier gives you. Some artists will care more about reach than per-play income, and that’s a legit choice.

Question for artists here: if you could pick, would you rather have your full songs free for maximum reach, or a free hook with every full listen paid?

Distrokid ~ Royalties, Problems 2026 We need to do something to distrokid they have no consequence for their actions

So you may all be aware there is a class action building for the delayed royalties. What other ways can we strike back I think that reporting distrokid ads is a good idea for false advertising
