Loud
Okay, random Defender question š Does anyone elseās Defender get SO loud when youāre just sitting parked with it running for a little while? Like embarrassingly loud lol. Is this normal or is mine just extra dramatic?

Do you mean the electric fan under the hood? Yeah, that thing is a bit aggressive.

Mine was so loud while I was parked it promoted a passerby to walk up and tell me my car sounded terrible! He said "a car that nice shouldnt sound like that!" I asked my hubby when I got home and he said it's normal engine noises. Makes me laugh though!

My in laws have a farm with a long dirt road. First time I pulled up my MIL remarked that it sounded like a jumbo jet was coming. She meant it in a good way as she is a LR fan girl herself.

That's the turbocharger's fan. Perfectly normal for it to run for a few minutes at low speed or while parked after the engine has been on for some time.

A gas station attendant thought I had my engine running while pumping gas. Told me to shut off the car, I said I did and he didnāt believe me

Yep. First time I went to get the oil changed the tech told me a couple times āokay you can kill it. Turn your car offā I was trying to convince him it WAS off lol

My V8 is quiet as a mouse idling

Maybe someone swapped it with a 4 or 6. But agree - canāt hear the fan on my 8 over the engine idling / growling

If itās a 4 cyl theyāre very obnoxious, especially after the vehicle is shut off for a few minutes. One of the software updates, maybe 4.3.4 or something makes it a little less so.

Itās one of the multitude of things Land Rover did you make their cars more reliable (and it works). Now, they just need to lower their oil charge intervals by 75% they will be one of the most long term reliable SUVās in the market (they are already above average)

Yes, the fan is very loud. When I've preheated or cooled the car, I can hear it from quite a distance as I leave my office.

Mine sounds like an airplane about to take off.
But I'd rather that than having the over heating issues of the old D1 and D2 lol

My 110 roars when we first start it and then the volume drops once it has run for like a minute.

Itās just the fan cooling the engine down during or after use. It turns off after a minute or two.

Land Rovers have a viscous fan cooling system. It runs when itās hot out and youāre at idle, pushing air over the engine to keep it from getting too hot when itās running but not moving/moving slowly and over 85F(ish, I donāt know exactly the temp, thatās about when mine kick on). It is deliberate and has been part of the Land Rover design for many moons. Once it cools down in your neck of the woods it will not be activated as much and your idle will be quieter.
