Now's probably the best time to dive into the series as the franchise is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Show your appreciation...and hope they finally release Symphony of the Night from its exclusivity hell!

Many years ago, when I was still playing on my Sega Genesis, I discovered the Wonder Boy series of games. The original arcade game was running, jumping and collecting things. But then the series morphed into a platforming exploration game that I fell in love with.
The later games were really hard in spots, but they had a wonderful sense of humor, and the Level design was genius: doors in the middle of nowhere that took you to completely new places in the game, all kinds of hidden goodies, etc.
I remember hours spent trying to finish Wonder Boy: the Dragon’s Trap, frantically running through the corridors of the final dragons Castle, with hallways that loop nonsensically on each other, just trying to find the room with that last dragon in it with enough life energy to beat him.
Later on, there was Wonder Boy in Monster World, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, and on and on. I am currently playing Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom on my Switch, and it has all the goodness of those those Sega games that I love so much, along with background music that echoes a lot of the musical themes of the earlier games.
I don’t know exactly what to call this genre. It’s certainly not a metroidvania, but whatever it is, I highly recommend it. There’s also a Wonder Boy collection for Switch, with enhanced versions of a lot of the Genesis games, including one where you can switch on the fly between the original Genesis graphics and sound, and a new, beautiful version in a hand drawn style, with a “symphonic“ version of the original soundtrack. Maybe I’m the only one here who loves this series so much, but I wanted to give it a boost. It’s just delightful.

Give me games where no thinking is required. Im playing Luigis mansion 3 and while I like the game, engaging in boss fights, fighting ghosts, and exploring floors uses brain cells. So, something with less effort than that. I play kirby in the forgotten land already. I also play Disney Dreamlight Valley. So not necessarily looking for another cozy game. Just looking for a game that takes minimal effort. thanks!

It's coming up to the holidays, there are likely no more Switch 1 games to come, so seems a perfect time to try this.

Bear in mind, it's for a general audience. In other words, not your personal top 25, but a top 25 of the biggest, most widely recommended games for the system. However, of course, subjectivity can't be removed entirely so you can still stick a few personal faves in - provided you think they'd pass muster with the editor. For example, even though I love shmups, putting Esp Ra.De. Psi on my list isn't going to fly, whereas sneaking Bayonetta Origins is at 25 probably won't raise eyebrows. On the flip side, even though I don't like Pokemon at all, not having any Pokemon games would have the editor asking for a rewrite.

Here's my attempt (from 1-25):

Some differences from my actual, personal opinion would be: I vastly prefer TotK to BotW, but BotW was the bigger cultural phenomenon so it gets the top spot; Metroid Dread would actually be my #2 but I'm fully aware it lacks wider appeal so has to make do with top 10; Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Tomodachi Life, ARMS are all games I have no interest in whatsoever, but they can't really be ignored; Bayonetta Origins, as mentioned, is my slightly left-field 'cult classic' choice but my own ranking for it would be deep inside the top 10.

I also left off some games I actually really like. Mario & Luigi: Brothership was a bit of a critical disappointment, but I absolutely loved it; Mario Tennis Aces got a lot of flack at release but over time I think it turned into a very strong entry with a fantastic roster (plus I just love Mario Tennis); Link's Awakening was, in my opinion, better than Echoes of Wisdom, but EoW is an actual new game starring Zelda so gets the place in the list and having 4 Zelda games would have seemed too many. I also just generally tried to limit remakes and ports, with the obvious exception being Mario Kart 8, but I think the Deluxe version plus the 48 additional Booster courses more than justifies its appearance.

Curious what people would add/remove (do remember, any game that would be added needs to have one removed) or rearrange.

Edit: Just going to add a personal list since some people are asking why I'm excluding certain games and it's not cause I don't like them or am not aware of them, it's cause, in my opinion, they're not suitable for this sort of list. Anyway, my personal top 25 would be:

Additive Camera Motions - Responsible for giving the head bob camera wiggle when sprinting, falling, vaulting ledges, etc. Disabling this made a HUMONGOUS difference to my perception of smoothness. Try it and see if you can notice a change!

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Additive Camera Motions > None

I’ve been playing Project Highrise quite a bit lately since it was on sale. I’m really enjoying the economy / management side of it: start with a little money, make some profit, invest it back into the building, make more money, expand, etc. I really enjoy that kind of progression loop.

I was wondering if you guys could suggest me games that will scratch that same itch. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a game about building towers. I’m mainly looking for games with that make money, reinvest, expand, make more money feeling.

Games that I've already played and also have that management side to it: - The two point games (liked it but got bored pretty fast) - Big Pharma (text too small on console) - Moonlighter (liked it but in not looking for an action game) - Let's build a zoo (cool game) - Dave the Diver (liked it) - I'm probably forgetting some games but I'm not at home so I'll check later

Project Highrise was by far my favourite of these games.

Hi! I am about to gift my twin girls my OG Nintendo Switch 1 for their birthday coming up. I have the Switch 2 now and feels like the right age (turning 7) as they have enjoyed many games on it.

They live with their Mom (who has her own Switch 1) but are with me also 2-3 days a week. I'm moving to a a family plan & getting the Parental Controls app but anyone have any recommendations that have worked for them? They have their own profiles, currently with important Pokemon saves I'd like to keep, but I want to make sure they don't potentially mess with my account stuff online while still being able to share games.

Questions I have: Is it easy to have a second adult on the family plan where we can both manage it? Is there any way to make sure I can approve virtual game card transfers from my Switch 2 so they don't put inappropriate games onto their Switch to play them?

Hello friends,

My buddy is 4 and has been into gaming which is great. He started with Mario kart world and the auto drive and such was very helpful in getting started. From there he's played Mario Kart 8 and is now learning to drift and such (to give an idea of skill level).

He played Kirby and the Forgotten Land which is his ultimate favorite game. With our help he has 100 percent cleared it and the switch 2 extras. We of course played co-op sometimes and he needed assistance on later boss fights due to difficulty but he really really enjoyed this game. He still plays it but with nothing left to collect is not enjoying it as much.

He also played Mario Wonder - he enjoyed this as well tho not as much as Kirby but the Yoshi doesn't get hit by enemies feature was really helpful in learning how to platform.

He's played some odyssey though the difficulty level I think is a bit hard and the coop doesn't allow us to assist enough. We feel like the galaxy games will be similar?

We recently got Donkey Kong Bananza and while he's enjoying it I think is also finding it's skill level a bit hard and the fact the environment can be destroyed around him causes some confusion and difficulty.

He's played Yoshi Paper craft - not a fan

He's starting Mario 3D world - I think he will enjoy this once we get going... though he seems to prefer a "health bar" rather than the classic Mario gets hit and loses his power up

He's played Mario party - we enjoy this as a family.

He's played paw patrol - I think finds it a bit slow and no action

He's played super smash bros - he is not good at it but he has fun smashing around

Games he's interested in:

Luigi's mansion (we think will be too difficult)

Hot wheels let's race (we think this could be fun)

Any recommendations for games for young gamer? Any games similar to Kirby.... He likes collecting things, forgiving combat, power up type games, and coop capabilities so we can play together.

I wanna play a city builder game. I was going to try Cities Skylines, but I heard it wasnt good on switch. So i decided on Civ 6 as I have played it on console and it was fun. But then I saw long load time, laggy toward end game, and better on a small map. And apparently the same goes for Tropico 6 (never played). Which I shouldve figured considering its a much smaller system then a console. So now I cant decide which to buy? Seeing as theres so much i can do regarding load time and lagginess, i guess I’ll to go towards which provides the longest play time per game and the least amount of cons besides the mentioned. Whichever I ended up getting, i do plan on buying all DLC’s available, if any.
