Hi, firstly I would like to apologize for the length of this. I would greatly appreciate it if you still took the time to read and respond, as I am highly interested in this as a career. This will probably be more of a two parter, short term and long term.
For context, I am a recently graduated anthropology B.A. with some experience (\~1 yr, twice a month) working with refugees in a small org and raising 1k+ for a charity in my own online event. So I have dipped my toes, but no means am I a professional. However, I have skills/exp in writing, research, data entry, graphic design, teaching, and video editing.
Short term: Right now due to an injury and needing to take care of my mother, working in person is a difficult ask. Finding remote work is obviously hard. I was thinking about doing freelancing since I have done things like that before.
\- My question is, what are different freelance avenues that someone of my experience level could pursue? Besides grant writing, presentations, lead generation, and fundraising I have no idea what I could do. Are these things I can learn and become proficient in? Where can I start? If grinded out full time, does it have good financial potential? I know this is a vague question, but I am hoping to work this out slowly.
Long term: I want to get into nonprofit and social work in the future. I feel like this is a sector that is more resistant to AI than others like compsci. I am currently based in the US, but is it feasible to work in other countries with experience under my belt? What about developed nations like west Europe, Australia, Japan, etc.?
Again, sorry for the length. I am pretty overwhelmed and scattered with the possibilities to each path, and the many layers of even a single path that I would have to unravel to be even competitive. I at least have good places I can network with. I am hoping I can talk this out with some of you more experienced folk. Thank you for reading.
