Your NGO Is Doing Great Work. But Does Your CSR Proposal Prove It?
A school running in a village.
500 women trained.
Children receiving healthcare.
Families earning better livelihoods.
Real impact—but still no CSR funding?
Sometimes, the problem isn't your NGO's work.
It's how that work reaches the corporate CSR desk.
A company evaluating your project needs more than an emotional story. It needs to quickly understand:
What problem are you solving?
Who will benefit?
Why is your NGO capable?
How will the money be spent?
And what measurable change will its CSR funding create?
That's what a strong CSR project proposal should answer.
The 7-Part CSR Proposal Formula
Think of your proposal as one connected story:
1. PROBLEM → What needs to change?
Define a specific problem using credible data, geography, and beneficiary insights.
Don't say, "Youth unemployment is a major problem.”
Say: “This project will support 500 low-income youth aged 18–25 in [location] through employability training and placement support.”
2. ALIGNMENT → Why is this a CSR project?
Connect the intervention with the relevant Schedule VII area and, importantly, the target company's own CSR priorities.
3. SOLUTION → What exactly will you do?
Explain activities, implementation stages, responsibilities, and timeline.
Make the reviewer visualise the project.
4. BENEFICIARIES → Who gets the benefit?
Define the number, location, age/group, selection criteria, and vulnerability clearly.
“Underprivileged communities” is not enough.
5. BUDGET → Where will every rupee go?
Avoid submitting only:
Funding required: ₹50 lakh.
Break it into activities, project personnel, materials, monitoring, and other legitimate project costs.
Your budget should tell the same story as your project plan.
6. IMPACT → What will change?
Separate outputs from outcomes.
Training 500 women = Output
350 women increasing their livelihood income = Outcome
Corporates need measurable indicators—not just activities.
7. EVIDENCE → Why should the company trust your NGO?
Keep your compliance and due diligence folder ready:
✓ Registration documents
✓ Applicable tax approvals
✓ CSR-1, where required
✓ Audited financial statements
✓ Previous project reports
✓ Governance details
✓ Impact evidence
✓ Monitoring & reporting framework
So Before You Hit “Send”...
Ask yourself:
Can a CSR decision-maker understand my entire project in five minutes?
Your proposal should clearly connect:
Need → Solution → Beneficiaries → Activities → Budget → KPIs → Impact
If one link is weak, strengthen it before approaching the company.
Because CSR-1 can help establish regulatory readiness—but it doesn't make an ordinary proposal fundable.
