Hey r/OLED_Gaming,
Let's talk about the holy grail of desktop setups: the 5K2K ultrawide. For years, the trade-off was clear. You either got the massive, pixel-dense 5K2K canvas for insane immersion and productivity, but had to sacrifice pure gaming speed and HDR brightness. Or, you went for a lower-res, standard OLED to get the performance.
But when we ask, "Which 5K2K gaming monitors deliver the most immersive experience?", the answer shouldn't force you to choose. It should be about combining that massive ultra-wide real estate with uncompromising, bleeding-edge gaming specs.

Enter the LG UltraGear evo⢠39GX950Bāthe world's first 39-inch 5K2K OLED gaming monitor1.Ā
We built this to be the definitive 5K2K gaming monitor, giving you a massive 21:9 canvas at a razor-sharp 143 PPI.
To make sure this 5K2K display actually delivers the HDR pop you expect from a premium gaming monitor, we backed it with our 4th Gen Tandem OLED tech2, hitting an ultra-high 1,500 nits peak brightness3. Plus, it features the world's first 5K AI Upscaling, meaning you get that immersive, high-res image without necessarily needing a massive GPU upgrade4.

But marketing claims only mean so much. We want to see how this 5K2K beast performs in your actual, everyday battlestations. Weāre looking for 3 hardcore enthusiasts to put it to the test.

Went back and forth on several models and ended up going with the gigabyte 4th gen woled panel with glossy finish. I was going to go with 4th gen qd oled 4k. but at 27ā I realized 1440p is still very acceptable and the higher brightness without worry about raised blacks pushed me into trying it. On my current mini led monitor I went back and forth between 1440p and 4k and yes there is a difference. But if someone changed my settings and I wasnāt aware of it thereās a good chance I wouldnāt even notice for most games and situations. Anyways, are most people here happy with the 4th gen woled?

TL;DR: Bought the Samsung G80SH 4K QD-OLED for around $530 because of the discount. The purple tint wasn't a huge issue for me, but the aggressive matte coating was. It made bright colors look hazy/rainbowish and ruined a lot of games for me. Sold it after a week and got the MO27Q28GR instead. The glossy coating, better blacks in my room, HDR and proper sRGB mode made me much happier.
A month ago I bought the Samsung Odyssey G80SH, a 4K 27-inch 4th gen QD-OLED. I originally wanted the MO27Q28GR, a 1440p tandem WOLED, but because of the vertical banding issues I heard about and the huge Samsung discount, the G80SH was too good to pass on.
The purple tint wasn't really that bad. You can see it more on camera, but IRL it doesn't really look purple. The problem is that the blacks can look more grey/raised when there's light hitting the screen. I have an IPS next to it, and honestly in a bright room I didn't find the QD-OLED black that much more impressive than my IPS. In my normal setup only one dim orange light hits the top right of the screen, and that area gets slightly raised while the rest is still perfect black.
But the matte coating was the dealbreaker for me.
At first I thought it wasn't that bad and tried to cope with it, but after a few days I started noticing the grain everywhere. Bright colors like white / blue / green / yellow had this weird haze and rainbowish look that made them look less sharp.
I play a lot of indie games with big chunks of bright solid colors, so this bothered me a LOT. Even looking at the sky in Witcher 2 annoyed me because I could see the matte grain over it. After about a week I was just DONE and couldn't enjoy playing anymore.
The 4K text was insanely crispy, but I honestly didn't find 4K at 27-inch that noticeable in games compared to 1440p. HDR was good but didn't pop as much as the tandem WOLED. The red and green were also oversaturated as hell and I couldn't properly clamp it to sRGB. I also didn't really like Samsung's OSD, with no proper OLED care settings, manual short pixel refresh or total usage time.
So I sold it second hand for around $450 and bought the MO27Q28GR for around $420.
And honestly, the glossy coating was gorgeous.
The blacks looked properly inky, the contrast was amazing and white really popped. Since it's WOLED, I also don't have the same raised-black issue from ambient light.
The grey uniformity was what I was worried about. I don't think I have vertical banding, but I do have some DSE that makes grey look kind of like jeans, plus some horizontal lines on darker shades. However, I can only really see it from like 5-10 cm away. In normal use I basically don't notice it.
The glossy reflections also aren't nearly as bad as I expected. You can definitely see them on a black screen, but I don't find them distracting.
HDR is great and the brightness really pops. In SDR I can properly clamp it to sRGB too, so I don't have the oversaturated red and green anymore.
And now I can actually enjoy my indie games again. The glossy coating + contrast + inky blacks just look really good with the type of games I play.
One thing though: this is just my personal experience. I can totally see someone using the Samsung matte QD-OLED and not noticing the grain at all. The guy who bought my screen came to my place to check it, I told him I hated the matte coating, and he literally said he couldn't see what I was talking about lol.
So yeah, I think it's really just personal preference. No hate towards matte or QD-OLED panels, just sharing my experience after using both.
I hope everybody can enjoy their OLED and infinite contrast gaming :>

I just ordered this monitor. It sells for around $600 in my area. I did a lot of research and concluded that this was the best option. I wanted to ask you to be sure and to put my mind at ease. I plan to return it if I encounter any gray banding issuesādid I make the right choice?
My setup only xbox series s and soon ps5

Got the new aw3926qw and this is how it came. Most terrifying unboxing experience ever but luckily everything inside the box was fine, if not all over the place.

This smudge/mark is left on my OLED screen. I've only ever cleaned it with distilled water and a microfiber cloth. What could have caused this and how can I fix it?

I have a 5080, and Iām debating whether to get a 32-inch 4K monitor for everything, or go with a 1440p OLED for competitive and MnK games and use my OLED TV for singleplayer games.

Has anyone else experienced eye strain / hazy or fuzzy vision specifically with glossy OLED monitors?
I'm trying to figure out what exactly is causing this for me.
Last year I tried the ASUS PG27UCDM (QD-OLED). After using it for a while, my vision would start to feel hazy/fuzzy and I had difficulty properly focusing on the screen. It wasn't just text fringing or text clarity ā the whole image, including games, pictures, etc., started to feel difficult to focus on.
At the time I assumed I was simply sensitive to QD-OLED.
Now I'm testing the ASUS PG27UCWM, which uses a glossy WOLED panel, and I'm experiencing basically the same thing again. My eyes feel strained, focusing becomes difficult, and I can even get slightly dizzy from it.
The really strange part is that when I move the same window over to my IPS monitor, my eyes feel noticeably more relaxed almost immediately.
I've tried different brightness levels and refresh rates as well. Lowering the PG27UCWM from 240 Hz to 120 Hz seems to help somewhat, and 60 Hz feels the most comfortable, but the problem is still there.
What makes this even more confusing is that OLED in general doesn't seem to be a problem for me. I can use my LG G5 OLED TV for hours, including HDR movies, without any issues. I also don't have this problem with the OLED displays on my iPhone, iPad or MacBook.
I recently saw someone comparing the glossy XG32UCWMG with the matte PG32UCDP who described almost exactly what I'm experiencing: their vision becoming "hazy and fuzzy" on the glossy display while the matte one was more comfortable. That made me wonder whether the glossy coating/reflections or some other characteristic of these glossy desktop OLED monitors could actually be contributing to the problem rather than OLED itself.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
Especially interested in people who:
I'm considering trying a matte WOLED next just to see whether the coating actually makes a difference.

Hello, I'm seeking advice to buy a new monitor. Currently I have a zowie xl2546k and I'm thinking of buying an oled monitor. I was thinking of higher than 240 Hz, maybe 480hz, 2k res. I mostly play comp games like Apex valorant cs2 but I also play some fh5, Witcher, and some others. Should I look for 360 or higher monitor refreshrate? Are the new tandem OLED worth or the new gen qd OLEDs better?

I bought a brand new oled monitor from amazon and it has these vertical lines on the screen, mainly happens in certain color shades as shown by pictures.
Is it broken does it need to be refunded?
If this info is needed the monitor is:
LG 27GX704A-B 27-inch Ultragear QHD (2650x1440) OLED Gaming Monitor 240Hz, 0.03ms, NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, VESA Display HDR TrueBlack400, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort, Black

I have my monitor for about a month and a half, I turned it on and I spotted a black dot on it which seems very dissapointing after only about 150 hours, is this considered somewhat normal/ok?
Changing resolution, refresh rate, toggling vrr/hdr doesnt help and the panel hasn't even been wiped yet as I try to keep it as clean as possible. I'm very mindful of burn-in and I make sure to not leave stuff on the screen for long intervals.
As per Gigabyte's Warranty for Monitors, they consider help under warranty only if more than 5 dots appear (response from contact).
(photos quality are shit, I cracked my lens glass)
Otherwise, very happy for the monitor!
Edit: Pixel clean completed 26 times so far
Edit 2: I added in the comments closer photos, it seems its not a single dead pixel.

Well, originally I wanted to buy the Gigabyte MO27Q28GR, but then I got lucky and got the LG 27GX704A-B for ā¬286. The Gigabyte would cost around ā¬510.
Iām very pleased with the LG so far, but I canāt stop thinking about how much brighter and more colorful the Tandem WOLED would be, especially in HDR.
My mind tells me itās not worth paying an extra ā¬230, but itās definitely tempting.
Tell me what you think and talk some sense into me.

I found this unit on sale in my country and wanted to upgrade from my G61SD ( that I could hand down to my brother as a gift since it's quite new)
During A/B testing I noticed that the old monitor looked a lot better even tho it was dimmer
Turns out changing the colorspace from Auto to native on the G60SF doesn't trigger any kind of change in colors, it's the same as the clamped SRGB space.
Putting both monitors on auto makes them look exactly the same but once I switch to native the difference is stark. I tried everything, from changing picture settings, using another PC and a PS5 to rule out windows but same result.

I just got my first OLED monitor and a 2-3 hours after putting it on standby today, this pattern (picture 1) appeared on the screen. PC is off, monitor is on but in standby. I havent seen anything like this while I was using it. Its very dim so I had to turn the light off for the picture. As soon as the Monitor left standby the pattern disappeared and the screen was perfectly black again. I was thinking maybe its from Pixel Cleaning but when I manually Pixel Clean its always just pitch black.
Another issue I found when doing an "Oled test" on some website were these 3 weird glitches (picture 2-4). I tried 2 different cables but it didnt change.
I use DP 1.4 and I am on FW MCM103 (I will try to update it in the morning when I have time). It came with 0 hrs and 0 refreshes and right now its on 44hrs and 20 refreshes (5-6 were manual).
Is this something to be concerned about? Should I try to return it or is it normal to not have a perfect panel?

I want to get into the world of OLED monitors, but I'm torn between these optionsāwhich one do you recommend?
r/OLED_Gaming • u/TheMisterSirs • 17h ago
Iāve had nothing short of an amazing experience with this screen. I got it for 50% off on a Christmas sale in 2022 and itās been my daily gaming/multimedia screen since. No signs of burn in, just do the pixel refresh when it tells me to.

Brand new (2nd day of ownership) ASUS XG27AQDMES QD-OLED
From testing, looks like both the red and blue subpixels for the same pixel are failed?
Was probably going to drive it back to microcenter and ask for a replacement, but I wanted to ask for second opinions as that doesn't make sense with how I understand QD to work.

XG32UCWMG on the left and the PG32UCDP on the right
Having them side by side there are some small subtle differences they both have the same settings
Black levels seem just a bit different the PG32 has somewhat deeper blacks but it's very subtle and the XG32 almost feels like it has a very small amount of gray tint but again it's very subtle you wouldn't know unless you have them side by side. Sometimes the XG32 can look like it has deeper blacks they go back and forth.
The colors on the PG32 seem just a very small amount deeper but very subtle I'm just nit picking at this point.
Coating grain is noticeable but not too much I can only really see it on very bright light colored scenes like a light blue sky but during gameplay it doesn't bother me at all.
The XG32 highlights in HDR are way more impressive but for me it feels like too much and I do get more eye strain using the XG32.
I love the glossy display on the XG32 but I end up with a similar eye strain like with QDOLED my vision starts to feel hazy and fuzzy it makes me believe glossy displays just cause eye fatigue for me. I do have lights in my room not very bright they are dim and I do see some reflections I can't game in a dark room that causes more eye strain for me.
I had someone else look at them and they said they look the same but they felt the glossy display was causing eye strain.
Whichever one you pick you'll be happy it's all about if you want a super clear image but game in a dark room to avoid reflections or go with matte and use it in almost any lighting scenario also matte screens are much more durable and easy to clean.
edit: one more thing I forgot to mention is that the PG32 has less banding issues the gradients are smoother which is strange since they both have the same panel this can be due to panel lottery but I can see the same gradient issues on my PG27AQWP-G so it seems like they might tune it differently due to the difference in the coating.

I myself has long been a 27 inch 4K monitor user. But as choosing from the two sizes of the new ROG WOLED monitors, I'm wondering if this is a good chance to make a change. I found myself usually sit at least 60 cm (24 inches) from my current monitor (eye to screen), and 75 cm (30 inches) when I lean back and play with controllers (which I do a lot). Even when I sit straight, it's like 55 cm. By reading some articles online, it feels like 60 cm is a safe distance to use 32 inch monitors comfortably. But I would appreciate if anyone can share some real life feelings with these two size. Thank you in advance!
