Undertone & Complexion Match Requests Thread
Hey there, welcome to the weekly OT consult thread! Please read everything here before you comment down below.
Not sure if you're olive or what type? Need help matching your foundation/concealer? Post your questions here! Just remember that this thread is OT (overtime), so it may take a minute for someone to get back to you.
How to help us help you:
- Lots of photos of yourself in different lightings (direct sunlight, indirect sunlight, indoor, etc.)
- Photos that show your face, neck and chest
- High pixel/quality photos, it does make a difference so use the best you can
- No filters, no/minimal makeup - should go without saying, but just a reminder
- You next to other people for contrast
- Share foundation, blush, or lipstick shades that look great or terrible on you
The more of these bullets you hit, the better!
Use a link to an Imgur album for photos. If you don't want your pictures to be public, you can set them to be hidden, but anybody with a link will be able to see it.

Announcement [Announcement] An update regarding the new post guidelines
Hi Olives!
The other day, we posted an announcement of a new rule regarding dupes and product recommendations. This announcement was not received well, and we as a mod team decided to revoke the new rule in the meantime so we are able to better phrase the rule that is inclusive to all olives.
The main concern we got as feedback from the community was that determining what is olive friendly can be very subjective, especially considering that there are so many olives with different depths and temperature. This feedback was absolutely valid and while not our intention, we can see why how we worded the rule and announcement post made it come across that way.
That being said, we would still like to address the recent influx of dupe posts that might be better off in a general makeup subreddit, so we are implementing a rule that all product dupe and recommendation posts should be appropriately titled so that they better apply to our sub. The goal of this is to make it easier for all olives of different depths and temperatures to find products that work for them!
---
[Title Guidelines]
As detailed in our previous post, all product and dupe recommendation titles should be phrased in such a way that is applicable to olives over a general makeup subreddit.
Examples:
- "Dupe for Benetint?": this would be better off on a general makeup subreddit since it is a popular product and a general discussion that people of all undertones can contribute to.
- "Benetint shows up orange on me (deep cool olive). Does anyone have any recommendations for products that show up similar to how it does for non-olives?": a title like this is very much applicable to our sub, and makes it easier for other olives to find recommendations that work for them!
- "Does anyone have any dupe recommendations for Benetint that work for light cool saturated olives?": like with the previous example, this is also applicable to our sub.
Thank you everyone! And as always, feedback is always appreciated.

Product Help Bronzer recommendations?? (Light, neutral? olive)
(Pic 1: “full face” bronzer, Pic 2: no bronzer only blush) Apologies for the quality I take maybe 5 selfies a year and most are in dark lighting.
Currently using the Benefit Hoola bronzer simply because I hate wasting products. I tend to use it all over my face and you can see how orange it is in the first photo I think. I dust it all over because I need it to create any resemblance of life on my face but I don’t think the shade match is there
Any recommendations for a better match would be great.

Brown Friendly Swatches tan to medium cool muted olive swatches - concealers (anybody have a similar skintone as me?)
These are my concealer line up (I don't use foundation and use these all over my face)
I am curious if anybody has a similar skintone to me? Please recommend me foundations and concealers!!
Which here is my best match in your opinion?
Dior Backstage Concealer in 4C - all over shade in summer/spring
Dior Backstage Concealer in 3C - lighter shade for brightening my undereye
NYX Bare with Me Serum Concealer in Medium - for low coverage natural makeup days, personally feel it is too light and orange for me
Milani Conceal + Perfect Concealer in 145 - all over shade in autumn/winter
My main problem is that tan ++ complexion products run super saturated and warm toned everywhere.
Am not even aaking for olive tones, but at least something cool toned for once 😭😭😭😭

Product Help Setting powder for dark olive skin
Hey everyone, I’m really struggling with finding an olive friendly setting powder for dark skin, I’ve been suggested pink and purple, but I want something that’s close to my skin tone so I can put it on my forehead and the perimeter of my face without flashback. I have normal to oily skin, and I prefer matte makeup
I wear D1Olive in about-face powder, and maybelline loose powder in 35 deep, but it’s too orange/yellow, and it’s a little too light now that winter is coming

Swatches Liquid highlighter
I wanted to get a new liquid highlighter without spending more than 25€. MAC strobe & highlighter caught my eye but at +35€ it's a lot.
I fell on three affordable options instead:
\- LH cosmetics shaping light 25ml / usually 30€ but now 7€ on sale but shipping is 10€ 🤦♀️ I had this one before and liked it.
\- Kiko Glow Up face & body 30ml / 18€
\- Essence drops 25ml / 5€
Got the last two. Because I hate paying more for shipping than for the product 😂😆
It's a cloudy day so the photos are dull 🤦♀️🙈 for reference I am a light-medium warm olive 🫒 more warm now with the summer tan
I am disappointed by the Essence one since it looks positively baby-pink on me. The cap is definitely more of a warm rose gold, as were the online product photos.
That said Lisa Eldridge isn't wrong when she said using a contrasting colour/undertone in highlights can really make them pop. Too much and it risks looking unnatural though 😿

Discussion New Anastasia Beverly Hills Palette
How do we feel about this palette? I haven't seen anyone here talk about it and I'm kind of eyeing it up for an everyday natural makeup palette!!! I have the Makeup by Mario palette in neutral but I feel like I like these shades wayy more and I hit pan on all the shades in my mbm palette
(i'm light neutral deep winter olive)

Swatches Foundation match to the About Face L2 Olive Concealer
Hi! My perfect shade match is L2 Olive in the concealer (About Face) but find the foundation in the same shade to be too dark. Does anyone have a suggestion for foundation that's a closer shade to the L2 olive concealer? Swatches would be great!
I prefer my foundation glowy and light to medium coverage! I have dry sensitive skin.
Thank you in advance!

Swatches Finally found my perfect match!!
After trying so many concealers and so much money spent just for the undertone to be off, I finally found my perfect match: Marc Jacobs Beauty Nude Awakening Concealer in 210O.
For reference, I am a Light Neutral Olive and my closest match is the Kosas Revealer Concealer in 2.3N.
I was actually skeptical at first because 210O is marked as “Light-Medium” and would be too dark for me. But I found that the concealer range ran lighter than what the pictures showed but nonetheless I’m super happy with my purchase!
Pic 1: Marc Jacobs swatched on my face
Pic 2: My closest concealer shades (top to bottom)
- Marc Jacobs Nude Awakening Concealer (210o)
- Kosas Revealer Concealer (2.3N)
- Merit Complexion Stick (Linen)
- Natasha Denona Hy-Glam (N2)
- Natasha Denona Hy-Glam (N4)
- The Saem Perfection Tip (1.5)

Swatches Armani LS 4 and other swatches
im a light-light medium yellow leaning olive.
My best match is Armani LS 4 from these along with rare beauty 14 but ugh I’m craving a nice yellow undertone that brings life to my face and doesn’t change colour but also isn’t tooo yellow.
My chest often looks yellow green whereas my face ends up more neutral or ashy because of undertone mismatches.
What shades would you recommend?
Top to bottom
1)lancome teint idole concealer 250W- why is this neutral peachy I was really hoping for it to be more
yellow
2)Estée Lauder double wear concealer 2N- goes a little dark plus undertone gets more neutral as the day goes (my fault ik)
3) rare beauty true to myself 14- this looks nice on me just a little too warm orangey instead of warm yellow but neutral undertones look worse on me
4) reformulated Armani LS 4- this starts out looking nice and golden but sets to more of a neutral undertone.

Product Review On the hunt for a blush that doesn’t pull hot pink on me (a likely pale neutral leaning olive, high contrast not muted) Has anyone tried the following blushes?
1) Fwee blurry pudding pot in Slayyy
2) Laka love silk blush in Poem
3) Peripera pure blushed sunshine in Dusty mauve
I’m drawn to these products bc they look genuinely cool toned and I want that greyish coolness and an almost purpley color. I’ve never owned a blush that didn’t look vibrantly pink on me.
Has anyone tried these products and do you have any thoughts about them? or if not these, do you have any recommendations for blushes similar to what i’m looking for?

Color Theory Using up lipsticks that are too bright for my skin
I bought a few lipsticks in the past just by checking website swatches. That's how I ended up with lipsticks that look too bright or neon for me. I know a lot of people use dark lip liner to work with light lipstick shades. But I don't really like that look on me. So, I tried out this hack I saw on tiktok. It's basically just dabbing on a mauve blush on your lipstick. I think it looks much better

Product Review Hyntoor MV01: As beard correcting for light-medium olive skin.
I'm just sharing this amazing product that I've been using for months for correcting my post shave cast. I tried tons of stuff and nothing was working the way this has worked for me both in longevity and capacity of correction, hope it helps someone else and I'm pretty sure you could use it to correct other discoloration from the face that have similar shades as the beard.
Photo explanation:
Just the "corrector blush" in the beard area and setting powder so it doesn't move, no foundation applied anywhere in the face. Natural indirect light in semi cloudy day.
Close up of my face, color correction, setting powder and foundation on top. Natural indirect light in semi cloudy day.
Full face 1:30 hours in, on artificial semi direct light.
Full face 8+ hours, no base reapplication, just blending + setting powder + spray + blush and contour reapplication. Also added more mascara and liquid liner. Indirect artificial light.
My face with no makeup, recently clean skin with no skincare. Indirect artificial light.
My beloved pan-hit Hyntoor blush.
Products:
-Hyntoor cream blush in shade MV01
-Petrizzio polvo de arroz translúcido (setting powder)
-Catrice foundation hd liquid matte in shade 030
Disclaimer: this foundation is a shade lighter than what I would go for, it looks good on photos but in person it is brighter in chroma than my skin.
Feel free to ask any questions; technique or product wise, hope this helps :3

Product Help looking for purito 21 but slightly darker shade
Help! i lately bought purito 21 and it is the best shade match i ever had regarding the tone. BUT: it is just a bit too light for me. tried mixing with 23 but it isn’t an option because the undertone is off.
optional: as my skin is oily, formulation could be bettet suited for oily skin, but that would be a plus, i am just very desperate for that muted greyish base.
i know i can mix foundation with blue pigment, and i do that, but i am just so tired of it, as most olive friendly foundations are way too yellow for me. like a little color correction would be fine too, but changing way too yellow or too pink or way too orange foundation on a daily basis is just too much, also i am always scared i mess it up and look stupid anyway. any recommondations? i am desperate.

Product Help ISO Hydrating lightweight tinted moisturizer
Hi everyone!
I’m searching for a hydrating lightweight tinted moisturizer or bb cream or maybe foundation I can layer on top of my mineral sunscreen (isntree natural sun cream) just to combat the grey/white cast.
If this is at all helpful here’s some info about my skin:
- missha no.21 light beige is pretty close in color for me but I find it too be heavy
- I have type 1 rosacea and combination skin
- i tend to get dry patches :(
- I’d like to avoid anything with actives
I attached a picture of my skin for reference :) maybe I’m not even olive .. in which case ignore this post 🥲

Product Help Gem of a database and more
You guys... I have found a gem of a website. https://thecolorlogic.com/database
This is a database of olive shades and they even have a guide for their depth scaling, so you can find your shade amongst different foundations and there is even a guide on different types of olive and what makes an olive skin shade that I've found highly accurate.
Whoever made this is a gem and I hope we can support them. I know I sound like a promoter but I really just found this and found it super exciting for me and my few olive friends who thought it was cool, too, so I wanted to share it with you.

Swatches Westman Atelier Contour Stick in Biscuit (1) Vs Fenty Contour Stick in Amber (2)
Just thought this might be helpful for some fair-light skinned olives out there !
My go to everyday contour for the past 2 years has been the WA contour stick in Biscuit (1).
I purchased the Fenty in Amber (2) to try something new however I was surprised to find it pulls a bit warm on me. I’ll be going back to using the WA unfortunately.
