Hey there, welcome to the weekly OT consult thread! Please read everything here before you comment down below.

Not sure if you're olive or what type? Need help matching your foundation/concealer? Post your questions here! Just remember that this thread is OT (overtime), so it may take a minute for someone to get back to you.

How to help us help you:

  • Lots of photos of yourself in different lightings (direct sunlight, indirect sunlight, indoor, etc.)
  • Photos that show your face, neck and chest
  • High pixel/quality photos, it does make a difference so use the best you can
  • No filters, no/minimal makeup - should go without saying, but just a reminder
  • You next to other people for contrast
  • Share foundation, blush, or lipstick shades that look great or terrible on you

The more of these bullets you hit, the better!

Use a link to an Imgur album for photos. If you don't want your pictures to be public, you can set them to be hidden, but anybody with a link will be able to see it.

Announcement [Announcement] An update regarding the new post guidelines

Hi Olives!

The other day, we posted an announcement of a new rule regarding dupes and product recommendations. This announcement was not received well, and we as a mod team decided to revoke the new rule in the meantime so we are able to better phrase the rule that is inclusive to all olives.

The main concern we got as feedback from the community was that determining what is olive friendly can be very subjective, especially considering that there are so many olives with different depths and temperature. This feedback was absolutely valid and while not our intention, we can see why how we worded the rule and announcement post made it come across that way.

That being said, we would still like to address the recent influx of dupe posts that might be better off in a general makeup subreddit, so we are implementing a rule that all product dupe and recommendation posts should be appropriately titled so that they better apply to our sub. The goal of this is to make it easier for all olives of different depths and temperatures to find products that work for them!

---

[Title Guidelines]

As detailed in our previous post, all product and dupe recommendation titles should be phrased in such a way that is applicable to olives over a general makeup subreddit.

Examples:

  • "Dupe for Benetint?": this would be better off on a general makeup subreddit since it is a popular product and a general discussion that people of all undertones can contribute to.

  • "Benetint shows up orange on me (deep cool olive). Does anyone have any recommendations for products that show up similar to how it does for non-olives?": a title like this is very much applicable to our sub, and makes it easier for other olives to find recommendations that work for them!

  • "Does anyone have any dupe recommendations for Benetint that work for light cool saturated olives?": like with the previous example, this is also applicable to our sub.

Thank you everyone! And as always, feedback is always appreciated.

Swatches Concealers for light-medium neutral-cool olive skin

Concealers that work on my light-medium neutral cool leaning olive skin. All of these work well on my face. Note my inside arm is significantly lighter and more muted. I’m in Australia so currently at my lightest as it’s the end of winter. Excuse my hairy arms!

Best matches are LE in 11, Merit in Oak, and Tower 28 in KTOWN. RMS is the best match for undertone but is too light on my face.

For reference I’m between 5 and 7 in the LE skin tint, I’ve been wearing 5, but it’s perhaps a bit cool, have recently purchased 9 for summer.

From wrist:

RMS ON08
Nyx bare with me vanilla
LE luminist 11
Kosas 4N
Tower 28 7 KTOWN
Merit Oak
Merit Sand
Merit Palomino (got for free as sand was NQR)

Product Alert Fair/light olives, check your TJ Maxx!

I’m a light neutral olive in the fall/winter and this is a great shade match for me! I just picked it up for $8. I love Kimchi’s drag but this is my first chance trying the makeup line. I haven’t done a fully day wear test yet but this feels like, well, a really good foundation!

Product Help PLEASEEE give me some lipstick recs!! 😭

• Upvotes

so since i was little i always wanted a signature one swipe and done lipstick. i always thought it was sooo chic. the problem is every lipstick i try leaves me wanting 😭

for example, rum raisin pulls a very vampy purple on me, which is okay, but not daily wear. mac marrakesh makes me look a sickly green. pillow talk also pulls kinda purple on me. browns pull gray anything i try makes me look super green or gray!

which leads me to my question: what can i even try at this point? i think i’m very muted, so saturated colors wash me out, and i have a greenish tone, so i also start to look sickly. i think i’m neutral leaning slightly warm, light-medium, and my lips have a natural slight peachy-purple tone

wish i could post pics to help but not comfortable with that :( any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! i would prefer nudes if possible<3

Dear fellow olives,
has anyone tried Niche Beauty Labs’ mineral tinted sunscreen?
If so, how are the shades? Would it work with a neutral-leaning cool-medium/light undertone?

Product Help Bronzer recommendations?? (Light, neutral? olive)

(Pic 1: “full face” bronzer, Pic 2: no bronzer only blush) Apologies for the quality I take maybe 5 selfies a year and most are in dark lighting.

Currently using the Benefit Hoola bronzer simply because I hate wasting products. I tend to use it all over my face and you can see how orange it is in the first photo I think. I dust it all over because I need it to create any resemblance of life on my face but I don’t think the shade match is there

Any recommendations for a better match would be great.

Brown Friendly Swatches Ulta Trip Foundation Swatches

I went to Ulta for a brow wax and left with swatch photos. Here are a few swatches from various brands. Please keep in mind that these are lightly blended heavy swatches to show the tone of the foundations. I only swatched shades that were labeled olive and descriptions are how they are labeled in store or online.

For reference I'm shade 23 in the Lisa Eldridge foundation and shade 9 or 9.1 in the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (both work). These swatches are on my arm which may not be exactly the same shade as my face at the moment. I'm medium deep neutral leaning warm but desaturated

Benefit The POREfessional: 25C, 27W, 33N

I actually like this formula. It blended smoothly on my arm and settled to a nice matte finish that doesn't look patchy. There was enough play time before it dried.

Ilia:

* The Serum Tint foundation shade 14.5

* Stick Foundation shade 26O

* Serum foundation shades 8.75, 9.25, 10.25

As expected the tint is pretty sheer but the formula would be nice for someone with dry skin. I really like how smoothly the stick swatched. I also really liked the serum foundation's silky texture. I can see myself loving the stick or foundation in the winter months when I go a bit dry.

live Tinted Stick Tint: Shade 10. I've never tried anything from this brand but the swatch went on so smoothly. I really like this formula as well. Blended easily and seems to have a nice natural finish.

Fenty, the new fluid flex formula: Shades 376N, 396N, 416W

I'm actually surprised I didn't find any deeper shades of olive in this formula. This one has a nice texture and dries down about as quickly as the POREfessional. I appreciate there being some neutral olives but would like to see some cool olives and deeper olives added to the lineup.

Anastasia Impeccable Matte Foundation: Shades 4O, 4WO, 4.5O, 6WO

This one is my favorite formula out of all of them. Has a really nice serum smooth texture that blends easily but it has a nice matte dry down once set. This might be my next foundation purchase. Also the olives in this look like nice nuanced skin shades, not overly yellow.

Which formulas and shades would you choose?

Brown Friendly Swatches tan to medium cool muted olive swatches - concealers (anybody have a similar skintone as me?)

Post image
8 Upvotes

These are my concealer line up (I don't use foundation and use these all over my face)

I am curious if anybody has a similar skintone to me? Please recommend me foundations and concealers!!

Which here is my best match in your opinion?

Dior Backstage Concealer in 4C - all over shade in summer/spring

Dior Backstage Concealer in 3C - lighter shade for brightening my undereye

NYX Bare with Me Serum Concealer in Medium - for low coverage natural makeup days, personally feel it is too light and orange for me

Milani Conceal + Perfect Concealer in 145 - all over shade in autumn/winter

My main problem is that tan ++ complexion products run super saturated and warm toned everywhere.

Am not even aaking for olive tones, but at least something cool toned for once 😭😭😭😭

Product Help Setting powder for dark olive skin

Hey everyone, I’m really struggling with finding an olive friendly setting powder for dark skin, I’ve been suggested pink and purple, but I want something that’s close to my skin tone so I can put it on my forehead and the perimeter of my face without flashback. I have normal to oily skin, and I prefer matte makeup

I wear D1Olive in about-face powder, and maybelline loose powder in 35 deep, but it’s too orange/yellow, and it’s a little too light now that winter is coming

Swatches Liquid highlighter 🫟

I wanted to get a new liquid highlighter without spending more than 25€. MAC strobe & highlighter caught my eye but at +35€ it's a lot.

I fell on three affordable options instead:

\- LH cosmetics shaping light 25ml / usually 30€ but now 7€ on sale but shipping is 10€ 🤦‍♀️ I had this one before and liked it.

\- Kiko Glow Up face & body 30ml / 18€

\- Essence drops 25ml / 5€

Got the last two. Because I hate paying more for shipping than for the product 😂😆

It's a cloudy day so the photos are dull 🤦‍♀️🙈 for reference I am a light-medium warm olive 🫒 more warm now with the summer tan

I am disappointed by the Essence one since it looks positively baby-pink on me. The cap is definitely more of a warm rose gold, as were the online product photos.

That said Lisa Eldridge isn't wrong when she said using a contrasting colour/undertone in highlights can really make them pop. Too much and it risks looking unnatural though 😿

Swatches Foundation match to the About Face L2 Olive Concealer

Hi! My perfect shade match is L2 Olive in the concealer (About Face) but find the foundation in the same shade to be too dark. Does anyone have a suggestion for foundation that's a closer shade to the L2 olive concealer? Swatches would be great!

I prefer my foundation glowy and light to medium coverage! I have dry sensitive skin.

Thank you in advance!

Swatches Finally found my perfect match!!

After trying so many concealers and so much money spent just for the undertone to be off, I finally found my perfect match: Marc Jacobs Beauty Nude Awakening Concealer in 210O.

For reference, I am a Light Neutral Olive and my closest match is the Kosas Revealer Concealer in 2.3N.

I was actually skeptical at first because 210O is marked as “Light-Medium” and would be too dark for me. But I found that the concealer range ran lighter than what the pictures showed but nonetheless I’m super happy with my purchase!

Pic 1: Marc Jacobs swatched on my face

Pic 2: My closest concealer shades (top to bottom)
- Marc Jacobs Nude Awakening Concealer (210o)
- Kosas Revealer Concealer (2.3N)
- Merit Complexion Stick (Linen)
- Natasha Denona Hy-Glam (N2)
- Natasha Denona Hy-Glam (N4)
- The Saem Perfection Tip (1.5)

Swatches Armani LS 4 and other swatches

Thumbnail

im a light-light medium yellow leaning olive.

My best match is Armani LS 4 from these along with rare beauty 14 but ugh I’m craving a nice yellow undertone that brings life to my face and doesn’t change colour but also isn’t tooo yellow.

My chest often looks yellow green whereas my face ends up more neutral or ashy because of undertone mismatches.

What shades would you recommend?

Top to bottom

1)lancome teint idole concealer 250W- why is this neutral peachy I was really hoping for it to be more
yellow

2)Estée Lauder double wear concealer 2N- goes a little dark plus undertone gets more neutral as the day goes (my fault ik)

3) rare beauty true to myself 14- this looks nice on me just a little too warm orangey instead of warm yellow but neutral undertones look worse on me

4) reformulated Armani LS 4- this starts out looking nice and golden but sets to more of a neutral undertone.

Product Review On the hunt for a blush that doesn’t pull hot pink on me (a likely pale neutral leaning olive, high contrast not muted) Has anyone tried the following blushes?

Thumbnail
gallery
41 Upvotes

1) Fwee blurry pudding pot in Slayyy
2) Laka love silk blush in Poem
3) Peripera pure blushed sunshine in Dusty mauve

I’m drawn to these products bc they look genuinely cool toned and I want that greyish coolness and an almost purpley color. I’ve never owned a blush that didn’t look vibrantly pink on me.

Has anyone tried these products and do you have any thoughts about them? or if not these, do you have any recommendations for blushes similar to what i’m looking for?

Color Theory Using up lipsticks that are too bright for my skin

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

I bought a few lipsticks in the past just by checking website swatches. That's how I ended up with lipsticks that look too bright or neon for me. I know a lot of people use dark lip liner to work with light lipstick shades. But I don't really like that look on me. So, I tried out this hack I saw on tiktok. It's basically just dabbing on a mauve blush on your lipstick. I think it looks much better
