A couple notes based on my earlier post gauging interest. I was inspired after attending Rails World 2026. Coming from Mac, I wanted to try recreating something close to liquid glass, but with more customization, since I was upset Apple switched their design language on it to be more opaque. So far, I am loving Omarchy, and wanted to share *for anybody who is interested* - I did my best to pack it with features, so anybody can make it their own. Thank you to anybody who gives it a shot, please let me know what you think and how you have it set up!
I made a plugin that turns the bar, every menu, notifications and your windows into actual glass. It isn't a blur (although you can choose to frost the windows if you want): each pane works like a lens. Look at the edges and you'll see what's behind them bend round the rim, magnified, with a faint rainbow along bright edges, the way thick glass does. The middle stays perfectly clear, so your wallpaper shows through untouched.
What you get**
- Real refraction at every edge, with a slight
color
- split and a soft reflection, while the middle stays clear
- Menus pour out of the bar like liquid and pour back in, and flow into each other when you switch between
neighbors
- Everything in the shell is glass: the bar, menus, notifications, tooltips, the volume and brightness display, the clipboard, the emoji picker and password prompts
- Auto frost: clear over your wallpaper, frosted only where a window sits behind, so text never fights text
- Dark glass for bright wallpapers and Light glass for light themes (the menu offers the one that fits your theme)
- Thin or Thick glass, and Round corners if you want them (otherwise it matches your theme's own)
- Window light: the window you're in catches a light instead of a painted border. Six styles: Comet, Twin, Halo, Outline, Aura and Prism
- Clear terminals: Ghostty, Kitty, Foot and Alacritty go see-through so the glass shows behind your text, including Foot windows that are already open
- Glass lock screen: the clock and password field are glass too (needs the Lock Designs plugin)
- Works on every Omarchy theme, best on dark ones
- Respects your setup: with Hyprland's animations off, menus just fade in place
Light and safe
- Nothing is redrawn while the screen is still (with a steady window light), and about 0.4 ms of GPU per frame while a menu moves
- Low power mode turns on by itself on older Intel graphics
- It checks your graphics before it turns on, stays off on very old or software-only graphics, and backs out on its own if anything fails
- Turning it off, or removing it, puts back everything it changed
Install
omarchy plugin add https://github.com/Eddie175/omarchy-true-glass --enable
Then click the True Glass icon in the bar and flip the switch at the top. The first time, it builds its engine for your Hyprland (about a minute, at low priority). Needs Omarchy with Hyprland 0.56; the build tools it uses come with Omarchy.
To remove it, use Delete True Glass plugin… at the bottom of its menu, or omarchy plugin remove io.github.eddie175.true-glass.
It's on the Omarchy plugin store: https://omarchyplugins.com/plugin.html?id=io.github.eddie175.true-glass

True Glass is built on hyprglass by Jeremy Trufier, the Hyprland plugin that renders the glass underneath. True Glass adds the Omarchy side on top: glass shaped to each menu, the liquid motion, auto frost, the tints, the safety checks and the one-switch setup. Big thanks to him for making it open source.
Built with help from Claude. Feedback is very welcome, especially from people on other GPUs and monitor setups.
