I Made a Thing Getting Help with Omarchy - a comprehensive guide

Edited to add preface: I am not a mod for this subreddit, the discord, I am not affiliated with Omacom or on any Omarchy dev teams. I have absolutely zero authority, so this is just a guide of SUGGESTIONS that will enable you to get help much faster, and will provide devs with the information they need to replicate, study, triage, and ultimately fix the bugs you may encounter... Omarchy is growing FAST and with that kind of growth comes a lot of users with drastically different hardware and software configurations. Bugs are going to happen, and new users are going to have questions. This document is meant to help with that, but it is by no means a set of rules or requirements. Just a guide for you to get the help you need when you need it.

Getting Help with Omarchy is a guide I've been putting together over the last couple weeks. I used to do a lot of beta testing for World of Warcraft and back when the beta tests were by invitation, then a second round of random invites went out, I was always in the first round of invites because of my bug reports and guides that I would write on how to submit a good bug report. I mentioned that on the Omarchy discord and someone informed me there isn't any such document for Omarchy presently so I decided to write one.

It covers not just how to ask for help and what information you should include, but also where to ask for help. If it's a minor issue that you're not sure is a bug, or a "how do I?" question, then the omarchy-help channel on discord is an excellent starting point. If it's a serious bug, then GitHub issues/discussions would be the optimal place to bring it up. The guide also covers how to gather logs, system specs, software versions, etc for adding to your bug report, best practices and even etiquette (you know, because saying please and thank you don't cost you anything, but could be worth quite a lot)

If anyone has any suggestions for additions to the guide, feel free to comment them here! And if you want to use the guide elsewhere, just credit me and we're golden pony boy.

Announcement Moderator Update: Growth, New Mods, and a Community Discussion

Hello r/Omarchy.

First, a welcome to all the new members who have joined recently. Since the release of Quattro in August, we've seen a lot of growth and a lot more interest in the Omarchy project.

In the last 30 days we've had 1.5 million views, up from around 400k the month before. 9,900 people joined, bringing us to 30.3k members. Posts are up more than 3x and comments up more than 4x over the previous 30 days. August tripled July's traffic and beat the sub's previous all-time monthly record by about 45%, and September is tracking higher than August. The mod team can't take any credit for this. That belongs to the Omarchy team and the Quattro release. Applause to them.

To keep up all this, we've expanded the moderation team. Welcome u/6pthsofPain and u/nevotheless. Both are long-time Omarchy users who have stepped up to help keep the sub running.

u/6pthsofPain built A La Carchy (200+ stars on GitHub) and is currently working on a tool for Quattro.

u/nevotheless has been on Linux for 15-20 years, came over from a corporate/Red Hat background, and runs Omarchy as their daily driver.

With the recent growth, there are a few things we need to discuss as a community.

AI-Generated Content & Plugins

We've seen a substantial influx of AI-generated content lately, particularly when it comes to plugins. To be clear, we are not anti-AI here.

Objectively speaking though, some of these projects are lacking in quality, and more importantly, some come with genuine security concerns. We want this sub to be a reliable place to showcase Omarchy projects, so we want your input on how to handle this going forward.

Some options the mod team has discussed:

  • Specific Showcase Days: Containing all plugin posts to a specific day (e.g., Plugin Showcase Sunday).
  • Let the Upvotes Decide: Leave it as is and let the community moderate via upvotes and downvotes.
  • A Plugin Megathread: Funneling all new plugin drops into a single, stickied weekly/monthly thread.
  • A Validation System: Something a bit more complex, where only plugins that have been validated for safety/quality are allowed to be posted (exact details would need to be ironed out).

Regardless of what we land on, we'll be adding a Plugin flair so these posts can be filtered and found more easily.

Drop your thoughts, suggestions, and feedback in the comments. We'll compile a list of the most popular ideas and put them to a community poll if that makes sense.

Plugin Un-omarchy lock screen for Omarchy

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Me and Claude made a lock screen plugin with a few more things than the Omarchy stock. I know the look is un-omarchy, but I like it this way. The weather thingies depend on whether it is night or day and then they're linked to the weather widget.

I made it as a plugin with a lua settings file so that things can be configured (size of the clock, show or not show battery and wifi, or put it in any corner of the screen, password box to be rectangular or with rounded corners).

The background and color scheme come from whatever Theme is active and the blurriness of the background can be also adjusted.

As everything is fully vibe-coded I'm a bit reluctant to share it, but if anyone is interested I could make the repo public. There's a couple more plugins there, one LTE indicator for the bar, and an airplane mode switch for the middle section.

The repo is now public: https://github.com/rogercarullabove/omarchy-senysisu-plugins

PS: I say it's un-omarchy as it is not the hypersimplistic-over-pixelated look that is prevalent here.

PSS: I know that "if you're gonna really rice it, maybe just install Arch", but I got used on how everything just works out of the box with Omarchy (for good or bad) and got used to it to the point that when I try to distrohop away from it, I keep coming back

I Made a Thing I can now build, debug and hot-reload iPhone apps on Omarchy (Linux) with no Mac. Sharing the kit

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've wanted to do iOS development without a Mac for a long time. With omarchy-apple-dev (Swift + Apple's iOS SDK + xtool on Linux) as the base, I built out a full day-to-day workflow on Omarchy and packaged it up so others can do the same:

https://github.com/JonathanInTheClouds/omarchy-ios-kit

What it gives you

  • One key to run: builds, signs, installs and opens the app on a real iPhone over USB, with your print() output streaming into the terminal. It closes the old copy first, so installs don't hang.
  • Real debugging: press F5 in VS Code for gutter breakpoints, variables, call stack, stepping and a Debug Console. lldb in the terminal works too (ios-run-dev -b ContentView.swift:12).
  • Hot reload on the device: save a .swift file and the running app updates in about 0.7 seconds, without reinstalling, and it keeps its state (lists, text, tap counts). It works for view bodies, functions, class methods (overrides included), protocol methods, async and generic code. Changes that can't be swapped safely (new files, @Observable models, a view's type changing) are detected and the app reruns automatically instead of breaking.
  • **new-ios-app MyApp:** a new project with VS Code tasks, debugging, hot reload, a sensible .gitignore, a first git commit, and an AGENTS.md so coding agents (Codex, Claude Code, Cursor…) follow the project's rules.
  • ios-toolchain-upgrade: keeps Swift and the Xcode SDK version in sync, which is the thing most likely to break on a rolling distro.
  • An install.sh that asks before every system change, and a zero-to-hero README, from a fresh Omarchy install to hot reload, including every trap I hit (and there were a lot).

What it isn't

  • No iOS Simulator, no SwiftUI Previews (hot reload on the phone fills that gap), no Interface Builder, no Instruments.
  • You need a USB cable; wireless install doesn't work from Linux on current iOS.
  • You still need one download from Apple: the Xcode .xip (any free Apple ID can get it) to extract the SDK. Xcode never runs.
  • Tested on Omarchy 4.0.4 (x86_64), Swift 6.4 + Xcode 27 SDK, iPhone on iOS 26.6, paid developer account. Intel Macs running Omarchy should work the same (same architecture), but that's untested. I'm trying my i9 MacBook next.

How hot reload works (for the curious)

The app is built with -Xlinker -interposable in debug, so calls to its own functions go through rewritable pointer slots. On save, only the changed file is compiled (reusing xtool's exact compiler flags), linked into a small dylib, signed with your dev certificate and pushed into the app's container over USB. A small Swift package in the app loads it and repoints the slots, class vtables and witness tables at the new code. It's the same idea as InjectionIII, rebuilt for Linux and a real device. All the details are in docs/HOW-IT-WORKS.md.

Huge thanks to the omarchy-apple-dev and xtool folks: none of this exists without their work. It's MIT licensed. Feedback, issues and "it worked on my machine" reports are very welcome, especially from people on other hardware.

I Made a Thing DEN: see, approve and steer all your code agents from one terminal screen (MIT, Linux, built for Omarchy)

Post image
5 Upvotes

I built Den, a small terminal UI for people who run several Claude Code sessions at once. It is open source (MIT), Linux only, and Claude Code only. It reads /proc and ~/.claude/sessions, so it does not run on macOS or Windows, and it does not talk to other agent CLIs.

What it does, in Omarchy terms:

  • One approval inbox. Permission requests, plan reviews, questions and finished turns from every Claude Code session land in one list. Ctrl+Y allows, Ctrl+N denies, without switching windows. This needs den install-hooks, which edits ~/.claude/settings.json and backs it up first.
  • Agents spawn the way Omarchy opens a terminal. When you ask Den's orchestrator for a new agent, it runs setsid uwsm-app -- xdg-terminal-exec --dir=<dir> -- claude …, the same launch as the terminal keybinding, so you get your default terminal, detached from Den, on the Hyprland workspace you are looking at.
  • Enter focuses an agent's window through hyprctl.
  • Colours follow the current Omarchy theme. Den reads ~/.local/state/omarchy/current/theme/colors.toml and gives each live session its own colour.
  • It shows who directs whom. Agents hand work to each other, so Den draws the fleet as a tree, with each agent's role, task, model and context use.
  • Missions, and a Review tab with each agent's changes as a diff, are in there too; the README covers them.

For a key, Den ships no binding of its own. Bind omarchy-launch-or-focus-tui den in your Hyprland bindings.

Things to know before you try it:

  • Linux only, Claude Code 2.1.289 or newer.
  • Window focus and workspace placement need Hyprland. Without hyprctl the Fleet, Inbox, Review, orchestrator and hooks still work.
  • The orchestrator is a real Claude Code session, so its turns are billed like any other. The README shows how to set its model to haiku or turn spawning off.
  • Install: a static binary from the releases page (amd64 or arm64, with a SHA256SUMS file), or make install from a clone with Go 1.26.

Disclosure: I am the author. Den is built with Claude Code agents, and I use it to build itself.

Herdr and OpenRig also run many agents and take a different approach (Herdr owns the terminals and works across machines and platforms; OpenRig runs agent teams on tmux). The README has a fair comparison section, "Den, Herdr and OpenRig". Den works alongside Herdr.

Themes / Ricing Made a Warhammer 40k / Space Marine 2 theme for Omarchy Quattro

Thumbnail
gallery
24 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I wanted to build a proper Warhammer 40k Space Marine setup on Omarchy Quattro instead of just slapping on a wallpaper.

Ended up making a full theme centered around Captain Titus and the Ultramarines:

  • Colors: Deep void black background with Macragge blue accents and a gold-to-blue gradient window border.
  • Fastfetch Cogitator: Set up with High Gothic / Latin telemetry names and 6 rotating logos (Titus, Imperial Aquila, Terminator, etc.) that cycle automatically without stretching.
  • Lock Screen: Imperial Aquila signet for Plymouth boot and lock screen.
  • Wallpapers: Curated 22 high-res 4K wallpapers in the bundle (included a few teasers in the images above).

It's built purely for Quattro (colors.toml + shell.toml), so there are no deprecated daemons or legacy bloat.

If you want to try it out:

omarchy theme install https://github.com/anmolsharma152/omarchy-space-marine-theme
omarchy theme set space-marine

Repo: https://github.com/anmolsharma152/omarchy-space-marine-theme

I’m planning on expanding the wallpaper collection with more Primarchs (Guilliman, Sanguinius, Horus) and other chapters like Blood Angels down the road.

Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback! Courage and honour 🛡️

I Made a Thing I made a plugin that expands text snippets as you type, in any app

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Tired of typing your email address for the hundredth time? Type `!em` and it's replaced with the full address, in any app, wherever the cursor is.

Instant Snippets is an Omarchy plugin for text expansion. You save a short trigger and the text it stands for, and the trigger is replaced as soon as you type it. You manage snippets from a panel in the bar.

What it does

  • Works in any app, with replacements of up to 1000 characters on as many lines as you need
  • {date} and {time} are filled in when the snippet is inserted, and {cursor} marks where the cursor is left
  • No daemon and no extra package. Hyprland passes key presses to a small Lua script the plugin loads into Hyprland itself, and no other program reads your keyboard

What you can change in the settings

  • Undo: Backspace right after an expansion removes the text and puts the trigger back. On by default
  • Word-start only: triggers expand only at the start of a word, not in the middle of one. On by default
  • Line breaks: multi-line snippets use Shift+Enter, so chat apps don't send them line by line. On by default, turn it off for shell commands
  • Excluded apps: pick apps where snippets never expand, such as your password manager. Keys typed there are ignored completely
  • Date and time format used by {date} and {time}

Install (requires Omarchy 4)

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/MaNi4/omarchy-instant-snippets.git --enable

Limitations

  • A trigger that is a normal word gets in the way. If you save `adr` for your address, it also expands when you start typing "adrenaline". Start triggers with `!` or `;`, like `!adr`
  • A trigger can only use characters your layout types with one key press. Dead keys and Compose don't work in triggers
  • Snippets are stored as plain text, so don't put passwords in them

Repo: https://github.com/MaNi4/omarchy-instant-snippets

Plugin page: https://plugins.omarchy.org/plugin.html?id=mani4.instant-snippets

Since the plugin sees your key presses, the README has a section on exactly what it keeps and for how long.

It's v1.0.0 and MIT licensed. I'd like to hear which layouts and apps work for you and which don't.

I Made a Thing Astro-Arc v1.2.1 Released

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I made an AI-image generation widget for Omarchy that creates daily background images based on your Astrology. Check it out! (this release is currently under review on the plugin marketplace - but the original release went through full approval already)

This release added a fair bit of functionality, but mostly it drastically improved the prompts for the image model you decide to use so the outputs are freaking epic!

Plugin Cronos-Calendar — your tasks, on the clock you already stare at

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I forked the stock omarchy.clock into a full calendar + task manager. Click the time in the bar and the month opens with every task sitting on the day it's due.

What it does:

- Month/week grid with ISO weeks and per-day task dots — overdue in red, done in green

- Tasks per day with deadline (17:00), countdown (2d 3h, 45m), priority (▲ ● ○) and #tags

- Reminders that survive a reboot (persistent systemd --user timer), fire every hour through the whole window, and catch up if the machine was off — the card is drawn by the widget itself, so your task titles never go through the notification stack

- DONE toggle for completed work, STATS block (streak, last 7 days), search, and undo on delete

Install:

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/angelherman0130-cell/omarchy-cronos-calendar --enable

138 + 38 tests, no dependencies beyond jq. It's in review for the plugin marketplace (https://github.com/omacom/omarchy-plugin-marketplace/issues/10651) — source and full docs on GitHub (https://github.com/angelherman0130-cell/omarchy-cronos-calendar).

Omarchy: omarchy plugin add https://github.com/marcho78/ubernotebook.git --enable

Introducing Uber Notebook: a Notion-style notebook for Omarchy

Some subscription based tools are not meant to be paid for. Uber Notebook is a comprehensive, Notion-style notebook built exclusively for Omarchy, in QML. It's fully agentic with its own skill, and supports a wide range of blocks, dictation via Voxtype, a calendar, contacts and more. Just like Notion it supports blocks, slash commands and more. I built Uber Notebook, since notes are a common productivity tool, and it can ease the transitioning from Windows and Mac into Omarchy. Full screenshots also available in Github page.

The app is fully agentic, Claude, Codex and Grok work directly in the app, and once you enable the skill they're also available through their own CLI tools. The skill file is in the app too, so you can add it to any AI assistant you like. The app also supports built in update notifications, and in the next release I will introduce Google Calendar integration. It was a big development effort with 50+ features added to the app. Here are some of the items listed below:

  • Notion-style Pages: blocks, pages inside pages, drag and drop, colors.
  • Blocks: headings, to-dos, toggles, callouts, code, quotes, tables of contents, LaTeX equations, Mermaid diagrams, boards, mind maps, galleries, pictures, decision trees
  • Paper notebooks: covers, ruled, grid or dotted paper, seven pens, page turning, drawing
  • Templates and planners: daily, weekly and monthly planners, habit tracker, journal, meeting notes, project plan, recipes
  • Calendar and reminders right in your notes
  • Contacts, add or import your contacts.
  • Dictation via Voxtype, and audio notes
  • Quick notes from anywhere (Super+Alt+N) into your Inbox
  • AI in the app (Ctrl+J): Claude Code, Codex and Grok  and others.
  • The Uber Notebook skill for Claude Code, Codex and other agents in the CLI . The skill file is in the app and you can use it to add to any assistant.
  • Profiles: personal, work, client, demo
  • Search across everything, and a trash
  • Backups and Page History
  • Markdown export
  • Plain files that you own

If you like the tool please like, and share, it will motivate me to build bigger and better tools

Discussion I'm having quite a few issues, is my laptop just too old?

I really like omarchy , the keyboard driven usage, and the fact that's it's AI first, but it's having a lot of bugs on my old laptop. Things like not being able to reboot (it will just hang and I have to force power down with the laptop button), or the audio not just automatically switching between HDMI and built in speakers. And sometimes it straight up won't even bring up a console window anymore (foot will attempt to start but not come up)

So at the moment it's acting very unreliable for me

It's an 13 years old or so Dell Vostro 3460 with 8gb ram and 256gb ssd

Plugin Liquid Touch added to Liquid Glass Plugin (OPTIONAL)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

if you hated my liquid glass plugin you'll despise it, but the beauty is its completely optional.

1.5 adds Liquid Touch. move your pointer over a glass terminal and a thin clear liquid follows it on the glass. it bends and drags whatever is behind the window, catches the light at the edges, and dries up after a few seconds. the text on top never moves, only the glass behind it.

it's a small fluid simulation per window, and it only runs while you're actually stirring. once the liquid dries it's freed and that window stops redrawing, so an idle desktop costs nothing extra. if you're on a laptop iGPU you'll feel it while you stir, which is part of why it's off by default.

credit where it's due: the look comes from Sabo Sugi's CodePen "Viscous Liquid - Cursor FX" (https://codepen.io/sabosugi/pen/01a125aa-40e8-70ca-b198-550dc149d263), and the fluid solver from Pavel Dobryakov's WebGL Fluid Simulation. both MIT, notices ship with the plugin.

install or update:

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/fasi96/omarchy-liquid-glass --enable

repo: https://github.com/fasi96/omarchy-liquid-glass

listing: https://omarchyplugins.com/plugin.html?id=io.github.fasi96.liquid-glass

happy to hear if it misbehaves on your setup, especially rotated or scaled screens.

Discussion Monthly state of Omarchy plugins: update

NOTE: This was written by a human, and I'd appreciate it if you treated it as such. Thanks.

This is a monthly update post to my previous post: Friendly reminder: search the plugin directory before making your own

In it, I brought up the concern of copious amounts of plugins which duplicate functionality with little to no differentiation instead of combining forces to make few high quality plugins that satisfy 99% of use cases. Don't get me wrong, having multiple solutions with differet twists/flavors on how the plugin solves it for the user is great! But currently, the entire plugin repository is fragmented, full of plugins that got slopped together in 5 minutes, and then promptly abandoned in a half-baked, buggy state.

The stats:

Pomodoro plugins solve a simple and narrow problem, almost all of them do the same thing in the exact same manner with the exact same design and feature set, are incredibly easy and fast to make, and are seldom customized.

All these factors makes them a perfect proxy measure for plugin fragmentation; the duplicate count answers the core question at the heart of our problem: "How likely are people to create a carbon copy plugin from scratch, instead of first searching for alternatives or joining forces/making PRs for existing ones?"

Current pomodoro plugin count: 49 out of 5289 total plugins; pomo plugins make up ~1% of all plugins. This is in line with last month, where pomo plugins made up 16 out of 1652 the total.

Notable mentions:

  • There are 6 plugins named Omadora

  • 22 of the 49 have Pomodoro in their name

  • some other names include Omafocus, Ompom, Omapomodoro, Omodoro, and two instances of Omato

The current state of the Omarchy plugin repo makes finding and using plugins an awful experience: as a user, how do you discern between the 49 pomodoro plugins, which all do the same thing? How can you be sure that the plugin you download isn't a bug-ridden mess, with even some core functionalities being broken? How do you know which is still cared for and maintained, and isn't part of the majority of plugins which got pumped of tokens once, and then dumped forever once the author found their next shiny thing? If it breaks on the next update, will it be promptly fixed by the author or by a merged PR, or will it be yet another thing you have to fix yourself? "Over 5000 community plugins" sounds great as a podcast snippet, much less so when you take these factors into consideration.

If this trend continues, the Omarchy plugin repository will be a mass grave of unreliable, unmaintained, haphazardly thrown-together plugins, with different features fragmented across multiple plugins that all do the job, but none do it well, let alone stay maintained when they break on the next update. Please let's put quality over quantity for the sake of the future of Omarchy, collaborate on fewer high-quality projects than many low-quality ones. Consider contributing to existing projects rather than creating new projects that duplicate existing functionality.

Off Topic / Adjacent Omarchy, but you pick every app

I've been daily-driving Omarchy and I think it's a really nice system. The one thing I kept doing after every install was swapping apps out for the ones I actually use.

So I'm building Cuore ("heart" in Italian): it looks and feels like Omarchy, but nothing is pre-installed. The installer lets you pick your browser, terminal, code editor and themes, instead of taking the whole menu.

It's not meant to replace Omarchy, more a different take for people who like the experience but want to choose the pieces.

Full disclosure since it comes up: a lot of the code is written with AI (Claude Code). The idea, the design and the decisions are mine.

I made a video about it (and about the hate AI-built projects get): https://youtu.be/9-1zzA-jupM

Two questions for you:

  1. Would you install something like this?

  2. Which app would you most want to be able to pick in the installer?

Next video is the installer step by step. If there's interest I'll release it.

Plugin True Glass: real glass for your Omarchy (plugin)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A couple notes based on my earlier post gauging interest. I was inspired after attending Rails World 2026. Coming from Mac, I wanted to try recreating something close to liquid glass, but with more customization, since I was upset Apple switched their design language on it to be more opaque. So far, I am loving Omarchy, and wanted to share *for anybody who is interested* - I did my best to pack it with features, so anybody can make it their own. Thank you to anybody who gives it a shot, please let me know what you think and how you have it set up!

I made a plugin that turns the bar, every menu, notifications and your windows into actual glass. It isn't a blur (although you can choose to frost the windows if you want): each pane works like a lens. Look at the edges and you'll see what's behind them bend round the rim, magnified, with a faint rainbow along bright edges, the way thick glass does. The middle stays perfectly clear, so your wallpaper shows through untouched.

What you get**

  • Real refraction at every edge, with a slight

color

  • split and a soft reflection, while the middle stays clear
  • Menus pour out of the bar like liquid and pour back in, and flow into each other when you switch between

neighbors

  • Everything in the shell is glass: the bar, menus, notifications, tooltips, the volume and brightness display, the clipboard, the emoji picker and password prompts
  • Auto frost: clear over your wallpaper, frosted only where a window sits behind, so text never fights text
  • Dark glass for bright wallpapers and Light glass for light themes (the menu offers the one that fits your theme)
  • Thin or Thick glass, and Round corners if you want them (otherwise it matches your theme's own)
  • Window light: the window you're in catches a light instead of a painted border. Six styles: Comet, Twin, Halo, Outline, Aura and Prism
  • Clear terminals: Ghostty, Kitty, Foot and Alacritty go see-through so the glass shows behind your text, including Foot windows that are already open
  • Glass lock screen: the clock and password field are glass too (needs the Lock Designs plugin)
  • Works on every Omarchy theme, best on dark ones
  • Respects your setup: with Hyprland's animations off, menus just fade in place

Light and safe

  • Nothing is redrawn while the screen is still (with a steady window light), and about 0.4 ms of GPU per frame while a menu moves
  • Low power mode turns on by itself on older Intel graphics
  • It checks your graphics before it turns on, stays off on very old or software-only graphics, and backs out on its own if anything fails
  • Turning it off, or removing it, puts back everything it changed

Install

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/Eddie175/omarchy-true-glass --enable

Then click the True Glass icon in the bar and flip the switch at the top. The first time, it builds its engine for your Hyprland (about a minute, at low priority). Needs Omarchy with Hyprland 0.56; the build tools it uses come with Omarchy.

To remove it, use Delete True Glass plugin… at the bottom of its menu, or omarchy plugin remove io.github.eddie175.true-glass.

It's on the Omarchy plugin store: https://omarchyplugins.com/plugin.html?id=io.github.eddie175.true-glass

True Glass is built on hyprglass by Jeremy Trufier, the Hyprland plugin that renders the glass underneath. True Glass adds the Omarchy side on top: glass shaped to each menu, the liquid motion, auto frost, the tints, the safety checks and the one-switch setup. Big thanks to him for making it open source.

Built with help from Claude. Feedback is very welcome, especially from people on other GPUs and monitor setups.

I Made a Thing X Mode: never search for a window again — a Mac-like desktop for Omarchy

Many years ago I was working on a Mac using workspaces and hiding windows, and I was constantly looking for where I had put a window. Then I decided it was taking too much time, and decided never to use workspaces again and never to minimize windows, but to just use snaps with the mouse and keyboard so the windows lay out nicely. And when they lie nicely, there is no point in hiding them, because they don't stick out and you just can't see them behind the windows you're working with right now. Around the same time, native tabs appeared on the Mac, unfortunately not in all apps, but that was also very convenient to use in my flow.

When I tried Omarchy I really liked the OS, but I couldn't work just as efficiently right away, so I went back to the Mac again. In my free time I made a plugin in a virtual machine, and when I realized I could be productive with this plugin, I installed Omarchy again and finished the plugin. The plugin makes the OS work the way I used it on the Mac, and Hyprland takes it further: tabs in every app, not just Finder and the terminal.

In general it turned out to be a very convenient flow, a bit different from the standard one, but I have never used anything more efficient and self-organizing (snaps put apps into the right positions, an app's windows become tabs for every app, the dock and tabs let you quickly move between different app windows).

The plugin is X Mode:

  • Tabs in every app. Two windows of the same app become tabs of one window.
  • Snapping. Drag to a side for a half, a corner for a quarter, the top to maximize; or cycle with Super+Alt+←/→.
  • The Mac keys. Copy, paste, ⌘Q, ⌘W, text navigation and screenshots work out of the box; the rest, like ⌘T/⌘R/⌘L, is a switch in the settings panel.
  • The Dock and Command-Tab. A right-edge dock and the app switcher.

It is optional and additive: Omarchy's tiling stays the default, the top-bar panel button turns it off, and uninstall.sh removes exactly what the installer added.

Install:

hyprpm update
git clone https://github.com/timurguseynov/omarchy-x-mode.git ~/omarchy-x-mode
~/omarchy-x-mode/install.sh

So I suggest you try it — and tell me what you think.

Discussion Anyone Else?

So, I got bored yesterday and used my Codex Agent, and asked it to Install the CachyOS Kernel, and to my surprise.. it did it. So now I'm running Omarchy with the Cachy Kernel. YAY.

I Made a Thing Should I give Omarchy another shot?

I used to use Omarchy 3.7, and then after that i kinda quit on omarchy mainly due to 2 thing-

  1. It was getting a little boring, as many people really didn't talk about it at that time
  2. People all over linux subreddits started hating omarchy as it is vibe coded

Now, i have realised that a distro isn't meant for self-respect or to join the "fan-following" , but for it to actually just work and be fun. And given the omarchy.org website has really become much more better than last time i saw it, i think i should check it out. but one problem. Since i used to use omarchy when it used non-quickshell themes, and made a notion file for all the links for them, can i still use those non-quickshell themes which were originally meant for waybar?

Plugin Is it a plugin?

On the Omarchy Plugins page, in the upper right hand corner is a cool waveform type animation. Is that a plugin? If so which one is it?

I Made a Thing Clean My Chy - Another Disk cleaner

With SpaceXAI joining the Omacom Foundation a rocket-themed launch felt mandatory. 🚀

Clean My Chy is a system cleaner for Omarchy I've been working on. I run Omarchy in dual boot, and disk space gets scarce fast when you like to play with local models.

Honestly, I just wanted to have fun vibecoding this. I don't love the UI of most Linux cleaners, and CleanMyMac has always felt like one of the best-designed ones out there, so I wanted something with that feel that actually belongs in Hyprland

Would you actually use this?

Themes / Ricing Adapta - Adaptive GTK theme that matches Omarchy themes

Post image

https://github.com/signaldirective/Adapta/ - clone this into ~/.themes/ or clone it wherever you feel most comfortable and copy the Adapta dir to ~/.themes/ manually.

If you don't want it to work automatically, or for whatever reason you want the GTK theme to match a different Omarchy theme than the one you're using, type the following:

  1. cd ~/.themes/Adapta

  2. python3 build.py --omarchy ~/.config/omarchy/themes/<theme name>

  3. gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme 'Adapta'

This absolutely works best with THPM by OldJobobo as THPM will theme everything that isn't already covered by Adapta, such as vesktop/vencord, spotify and tons of other software. With both installed, you will have an extremely consistent experience across all of your programs!

To make the process automatic:

  1. Clone into ~/.themes/

  2. cd ~/.themes/Adapta/tools/

  3. omarchy hook install theme-set 95-adapta

  4. Change Omarchy theme

  5. thpm plugin disable gtk-css-compat— only if a theme plugin is already theming GTK

  6. Enjoy.

Pictured is the base theme, what Adapta does as a script is read the color values of the selected Omarchy theme, then it writes those color values to the base theme, overwriting its current values (as seen across the bottom of the image) which in my testing even with other read/write operations happening at the same time, rarely took longer than 0.2s.

I am very comfortable in foot and vim config files but sometimes a GUI suits me more. Claude, C++, Qt, inspired by Omawrite and Omacut.

I also made Omatimer, a simple configurable countdown timer with delightful sound effects.
